Gospel quartets always attract these super-basses... anyone else notice that? Tim storms, J.D. Sumner, Paul Kennamer, Christian Davis, Nic Val, Ken Turner, all gospel singers.
there are a select few in other genres, like Peter Steele in metal but it's very rare and it's a shame. In other genres everyone just wants to sing high
Southern gospel really tends to utilize low deep basses, same with Russian choral music , those voice types are just featured and there is a want/need for them. I would love to see even More low voice representation in other genres cause it is incredible .
I've known Christian for 30 years. We used to compete to see who had the lowest voice in high school lol. He used to hang out at my house. Such a talented dude, even in high school. He was also in marching band with me
'Moses smote the water' and a 'daddy sang bass' live version contain low notes sung by Mr. Davis (i suppose G#1s?) and 'the star-spangled banner' some of his highest chest notes, just to let you know ;)
The description says his C#1 was in a song called "The Dream" but it was actually "Everybody Will Be Happy Over There". I just wish I knew exactly what group this was that he was in when recorded.
It is from "Everybody Will Be Happy Over There," which is in a mini-movie called "The Dream." Christian wasn't with Dailey and Vincent. He was with The Old Time Hour Gospel Quartet when it was made. You can see it here: watch?v=sJ8OBEQ3Ldc
Though C4, is called "middle C", it's definitely not in the middle of everyone's range, as that would require everyone to have a similar range. I haven't ever heard of anyone incapable of hitting a C4 though, so I'd be interested to see if your statement is true in all cases.
its a mix between, with lots of practice you are able to vibrate you vocal chords and false chords at the same time, then you can use that to produce a tone that sounds sort of like growl but a little more solid, and you can hold it longer, and it also sounds better than just a growl, or fry.
I gotta be honest, I've never really been a huge fan of Christian's voice...kind of a "jack of all trades, master of none" when it comes to both his range and tone in my opinion. He's a good singer, but he just doesn't stand out on any level for me.

Jeff Chapman and Richard Sterban as well
that C#1 is absolutely unbelievable. That was like partial fry.
StaySharpAG
There comes a point in the lower first octave where modal notes and fry are really hard to distinguish. The C#1 is modal, however.
It was 100% fry.
@@AxelFuentesMusic not by a chance
@@freddiestudio7668 thank you for joining the party, you're about 6 years late
@@AxelFuentesMusic ikr so sad 😭
I think he mixes below C2. his first octave notes are really quite abrasive and tense. Fun sound though. His solo work is really good
Agree
He's more of a regular bass than a low bass or profundo, both in range and timbre.
Why had I never heard of him? Great!

Great job. Thanks.

If I could fall in love with a man because of the blessing God gave him in his vocals Id Fall In Love With Mr Davis🥰😍🤩❣❤❤❤
still waiting for J.D Sumner's vocal range video :)
his range is like E0 - A4
@@calebcooper2841 I thought he only went down to a G0?
@@calebcooper2841 G0 to C#4 only chest
I feel like the G1 is the first modal note, maybe the F#. But certainly the C#1 was fried?
+Pastel Prince Mix Chest and Fry voice.
isnt that what you would call Subharmonic?
Shobas oo. O

You know that everybody in the entire world has a C4? Because C4 is the middle C of your range and instrument.
Though C4, is called "middle C", it's definitely not in the middle of everyone's range, as that would require everyone to have a similar range. I haven't ever heard of anyone incapable of hitting a C4 though, so I'd be interested to see if your statement is true in all cases.
I bet Tim Riley can't hit a C4 lol

What is the name of the intro song?
Wonderful Time Up There, written by Leroy Abernathy
F#1 is actually F1
Fries at E2
C#1 ok, but with vocal fry it's no problem.
+RCK ♫♪ but it's not ;)
Yes it totally is. He's just controlling it very well
+RCK ♫♪ you're sure? rather sounds like a chest/fry mix to me but you may be right ^^
It's not vocal fry 'coz throat vibrations on 1st octave sounds like fry.
christian Davis vocal range
He's a very good bass. Don't care for the growling.
I meant f5
Vocal fry over 9000
It's all vocal fry. it's no chest bass
Vocal fry should not be that powerful plus my chest notes sound exactly the same
Those are growling notes. Not no bass notes type deals.
Dakota Aguirre Pure chest, not growls.
Nekros97 there is growl in there.

This isn't growl, it's just straight vocal fry
Tha Boy Kota Sounds like subharmonics
I don't know why anybody likes a low so low it sounds like a frog.
Personally I think his tone is pretty terrible compared to most other famous basses although he can get low
I gotta be honest, I've never really been a huge fan of Christian's voice...kind of a "jack of all trades, master of none" when it comes to both his range and tone in my opinion. He's a good singer, but he just doesn't stand out on any level for me.
My range is F#2-F#4-B4[C5]-B5[C6]
Lowest chest and highest chest note, highest mix chest note and peak, highest mix head note and peak.
