    TIP: before loosening, count the threads on the top tensioning bolt to make sure it's the same position after replacing the belt. Technically, the tension should be measured/adjusted to a spec after installation.
    Thanks for the instructions; really helpful and made the job easy!

    Thanks it worked saved me $200. The part $7. Free shipping e-bay. One 12 inch bolt to the tension bracket (first to loosen) One 14 inch bolt on alternator, and One 12 inch tension adjuster.

    wow the 2010 corolla uses a more reliable tension method hehe the older ones they had some lever arm thing with a piston spring load or something. this system is deisgned to need some service too like you mention the belt stretches and probably needs to be tightened sometimes.

  • @PlymouthVT
    @PlymouthVT Год назад +1

    Also when you take the belt off spin the water pump impeller to see how quiet or smooth it is....or not. If you can hear the pump bearing or if it does not feel smooth its on its way out. Based on some YT's I have seen the water pump on this model is troublesome. And there were 2 versions. Check with flashlight there is no green or rusted specks around that WP area that means the water pump is leaking coolant out of its weep hole and a sure sign its on its way out.
    Same with the alternator spin its pulley. That should be very smooth. And no noise. Failed pulley bearing is very common. You can spin the AC pulley too but its not engaged so it should be very smooth and very quiet. After the belt is on and tightened hold a short ruler up against the belt and then push the belt in should not be more than 1/4 inch deflection per the manual.
    Do not make it super tight it will harm the pulley bearings on the wp & alt.

      Thanks for these tips! After I replaced the alternator the only issue I had was the water pipe. Inexpensive repair and I may very well have the only video about it. How to change the water pipe on a 2010 corolla. Easy,but c9mmon issue. Plastic hose nipples get brittle on this part. The do4man replacement seems to be better made and stouter plastic. The part is available in metal,but for the price I opted for the Dorman. It's held up great. I also did a spin on filter conversion. Not at all a fan of the canister style filters. Toyota is making a killing off of the quote "special tool" to remove the canister. I made my own and then did the conversion. If I get another corolla..I'm putting the canister back in and keeping my steel conversion adapter and valvomax quick drain oil plug

    The long tensioner bolt should be lubricated before you loosen it up after removing the alternator stake bolt. Lubrication may remove the witness marks where it was tightened to so just measure the length of the end of the bolt before loosening it..
    You may not get back to that exact spot on that tension bolt on a new belt right away as the belt is stiff and not broken in yet so tighten it up good not super tight and check it the next day. I wouldn't try to meet where it was on a fresh belt that's alot of tension on the water pump and alternator. Keep snugging it up till it stops stretching.
    Its a good idea to buy a Chilton's for this model car. Has alot of info like the belt threading diagram.

      Follow instructions in video. Snug is fine. Tighten too much and the bolt could snap

    • @havextree
      @havextree Год назад

      18 on the top 12mm and 32 for the bottom 14mm. Also the idea that you will cause strain on the tensioner by loosening it first is 100% false. The tensioner bolt will slide out fine if you are LOOSING it and won't cause strain on it. Those two bolts are meant to be there to hold it in place and do most of the work. If anything you might actually cause strain on the tensioner if you don't loosen it first since all the tension will be on it and not the other two bolts, but probably not a big deal. When tightening it up you do want to tighten the tensioner first then then those two bolts.

    • @righteousredneck777
      @righteousredneck777  3 года назад

      Could very well have a pulley bearing out. They will squeal like crazy. If it was not doing it before, it could be something else. Make sure the belt is snug, but not overly tight. You want just a little bit of give, when you pull up on it.

    • @righteousredneck777
      @righteousredneck777  3 года назад

      Was it a brand new altenator or a rebuilt? If you had no squeak before...its either a bad altenator pulley or the belt tension is off a touch.

    • @righteousredneck777

      You can try it, but to get a good pivot as mentioned in the video..that bottom will probably need to be loose. Blue thred locker might be the best bet.the red will be even better and hold tighter..just remember..it might be hell to remove if you ever needed to. Stuff is pretty strong
