I've been procrastinating way too much in my programming class recently, but this stream helped me remember how much i love programming, im now working on multiple c++ projects and couldnt be happier
Holy shit

This is a lie, no one is able to program in C++ and still be happy

You one those that be babysitting huh? Lol - bc I can tell you rn you ain’t watch 2 and half hours of coding - I’m 25 deep and still looking at a drill that’s in pieces.

Yeah on coding you really can't mess up or else it wont work (btw i dont code just personal opinion)
i love how michael just gives up pronouncing the names and j mumbles them
Micheal has made a heat-seeking drone, a bot that orders amazon packages for him, a robotic surgical arm, but was doubting his abilities to iterate over an array😭
these two just made me feel good about my skills. if they managed to get coding jobs at some point and are struggling on something that seems basic to me, I'm sure i'll do good in the field once i graduate
Trust me it's really all about practicing. If you keep at it and practice daily it gets easier :)

hearing Micheal talking about walking home in a full suit after being declined the job makes me really sad and I'm happy that he is doing well for himself now
I always manage to come back to this VOD when I'm coding in Unity. Sometimes, you just need to hear someone (like Toast) come up with those _giga-brained_ solutions. Otherwise, I tend to just overthink & overcomplicate my code.
The syllables thing in different languages.
Java: return word.split("-").length;
C++: return std::count(word.begin(), word.end(), '-') + 1;
C#: return word.Split('-').Length;
As you can see, it's possible to do one-liners in other languages as well. Splitting is obviously more of a hack, and the easiest way would simply be to create an iterative loop.
Java:
int syllables = 1;
for (int i = 0; i < word.length(); i++)
if (word.charAt(i) == '-')
syllables++;
return syllables;
I intentionally ignored { } encapsulation since it's not necessary in this case. It's technically a 3 liner, but separated into 5 for readability and style.
This is also the most generic solution that will have the least amount of modifications for each language.
No hablo Java
@@RAAAGGGHHHHH That's sad.
int main()
{
std::string word = "id-i-ot";
int syllables = 1;
for (size_t i = 0; i < word.length(); i++)
if (word[i] == '-')
syllables++;
std::cout
Meanwhile in Matlab, you'd need a for loop, a file to read from and your first born child.
Fun fact, what he is referring to as plumbers tape is actually called hanger strap or band strap. It's used to hang stuff like pipe for example. In plumbing there is a "plumbers tape" but that's something entirely different. Usually plumbers tape refers to teflon tape which is a thread sealant.

Seeing both of them struggle with the count boomerangs challenge gave me some hope as someone who's recently started learning programming and web dev lol, because I solved it pretty quickly and intuitively.
Same but I feel like Michael could have solved it in less than 5 minutes if it weren't for Toast lol
I love his mumbleouts

I really wish Michael had some kind of tutoring streams
It would seriously make learning coding so much easier
I mean you could just use scrimbas frontend development course(its not free, but it's really good at teaching javascript, css, and react the only parts not free are the advanced coding), and then from there go to the Full stack open. It might not make you Michael Reeves, but you'll get started, and you'll understand the basic language of coding so you can understand c++ and others.
wud u be interested in sum like that?i feel like its much harder to do that on streams jus cuz u cant go back, and u have to join in the beginning
He's used to make tutorials. You can scroll down the videos on his channel and you'll find his old tutorial videos at the bottom.

c# one liners using linq:
//50:50
return str[0].Split(',').ToList().Concat(str[1].Split(',').ToList()).GroupBy(x => x.Trim()).Where(g => g.Count() > 1).Select(g => g.Key).ToList();
//52:40
return str.Split().ToList().OrderByDescending(x => x.Length).ToList()[0];
//1:22:04 it's not a one liner using linq but whatever
int count = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < Arr.Length - 2; i++)
if (Arr[i] == Arr[i + 2] && Arr[i + 1] != Arr[i])
++count;
return count;
Heres the fewest line solution I could think of:
int count = 1;
for(int i = 0; i < arrSize - 2? count += (arr[i] == arr[i + 2] && arr[i] != arr[i + 1]) : false; i++);
return count - 1;
If count were passed by reference it could be a one liner

Misread thumbnail and thought I was about to watch a cuddling stream
Man I went back to college to study computer science. Before I used to study natural sciences(biology, chemistry), but I didn't like it at all and flunked.
The CS degree is really hard and I often feel anxienty out of all the homeworks and the speed of the courses, as it's quite fast for me.
I working at the same time - coding for a software development company in an obscure language to create systems for pacemakers.
I'm supposed to finish the 3rd year degree(similar to Toast's) this year and it's a lot of pressure for me.
Your stream gave me pure joy and relief when I wanted to relax a bit. :)
I definitely used to be terrified of coding(because my first coding was in my 20's in C and C++), but since I've discovered Python, it's so much more fun.
Thx for sharing this video. Now I know that I've moved very far from the point, where I would think, that it's a good idea to copy-paste a function call 1000 times :D
I really love to hear so many people are enjoying and studying coding. Whether it's for random projects or as a job, I feel like once you get past the hard parts, it gets really fun :)
ngl c and c++ are kinda cool too
I dont find python fun, I find that it goes out of its way to make things harder than it needs to. For example, the classic for loop is terribly inefficient using an expanded range function. You even need external libraries to do pretty much any complex math (numpy). In short, writing python code feels like slopping together a slow pile of crap from combinations of other people’s work. Personally, I hate it
@@KayOScode Ok, but there aren't many languages that have built-in support for complex mathematical computing. You can't compare a general purpose language like Python with languages like MATLAB, Octave, or Julia. As for the inefficiency, that's a given, considering that Python isn't valued at all for its efficiency, but instead for its speedy development time. At this point, computing machines have come to the point where they can easily handle Python scripts, no matter how tremendously inefficient they may be at times. It's all up to what you value more: your time or the computer's time. When you describe python code as being a pile of crap from combinations of other people's work, you're literally describing every single general-purpose programming language. Try programming a game in C++ without including sdl or eigen or some mathematical or graphical library.
@@imsleepy620 python is the definition of quick and dirty. I will concede it makes things easier. Fun fact: I have programmed game engines using raw win32, and my own math libraries made from scratch. I have similar videos on my channel. Making things from scratch in cpp is a rule for me. At this point ai have enough built up so much personal code that its only partially considered from scratch though. Im also working on a new language that I hope will replace cpp for at least me and my personal peojects.
In short, to me, programming isnt gluing together a bunch of rushed components, its finding the lightest weigh fastest solution for the job
This was really entertaining, but also really frustrating to watch them struggling on the boomerang problem. I take python class currently, and I just learned this so I wanted to scream the answer at them! 10/10 vid please do this again!!!

That's really cool, a little warning though just like @Micheal Reeves Stream VODS said it is boring and from own experience coming from the world of IT(Internet and Technologies) it is a lot of study and practice I'll let you know something about this stuff I wished someone told me a long time ago but I had to learn the hard way on my own, the material will make you feel dumb at first, but do not let it put you down treat yourself as novice and strive to get better because you and only you can strive towards a better understanding.
I'm sorry for this being long I just feel for a lot of beginner who just go straight into this field not quite understanding how it all works and giving in cause I felt the same at first but had the drive to keep going. Anyways goodluck and thank you for letting me rant :)
I scrolled to a random point in the video, I love this concept for a stream btw.
1:24:46: ill type the solution on my phone lol
int count = 1;
for(int i = 0; i < arrSize - 2? count += (arr[i] == arr[i + 2] && arr[i] != arr[i + 1]) : false; i++);
return count - 1;
I believe in the example outputs you have to both count and display them, though either way this is a portion of the solution. Around 1 hr 32 minutes they are trying to figure out how to keep the length and indices properly in the loop, but you could just create another variable for the length and update it at the end of the loop if I'm not mistaken. Thoughts?
@@JackRule16 i think it only asks you to return the boomerang counts. Printing them out was for the example. As far as your solution, im not quite sure I understand what youre going for. Something like this? Im on my phone so excuse typos or cap issues.
Int length = arrlength, count = 0;
While(length >= 2) {
Count += arr[length] == arr[length -2 && arr[length] != arr[length - 1];
Length-;
}
Return count;
