Garrett, your the best. keep them coming, great teacher.
MrBwest9376, right on brother! Im happy to help!
Yes Garrett still watching 42 minutes in. (Stopping to type this comment.) Spacing text didn't know about the control button when moving letters apart just the shift button. When in edit text spacing I use the selection mode under edit object rather than the escape button to get out of the edit text spacing. Now I know this tip. Ok now on to the text on a curve I've been using the circle cutting it in 2 halfs and ending up with a lot of difficult ways to get the text just right. I was not aware that an arc could be used instead. Thanks Now continue with the rest of the video. Freehand feature found out that it's part of my software. Thanks for showing me the freehand portion. Thanks for the review on the fillets Another amazing great video. Thanks
Ralph, thanks for hanging with me brother! There's always something new to learn with these machines my friend, that's what makes them so challenging and fun! Glad to help!
My Vectric Life has become easier thanks to you Garrett. We appreciate all you do for us.
Charlie, it's my pleasure brother! I'm happy to help!
Still here you doing a great job
kirkashley5443, Thank you for the encouragement! I really appreciate it. Let me know if you have any questions about CNC woodworking.
I only had Vectric software for less than a week an have watched a number of your videos . I'm learning alot but its a slow process . I'm 81 yrs young but love the CNC Router. I have been using Easel for the past 4 years.a little bored with it and decide to try Vectric VCarve. Alot different Than Easel. Youmake easy to learn
samdauria, im happy to hear that brother! Keep working hard and learning everything you can.
I'm thinking I'm somewhat past the beginner stage having been watching your videos for 18-20 months and having been using my Longmill since February '22. This video is still more than somewhat relevant or useful to my development as I picked up a good number of new techniques for VCarve Pro. Thanks and keep these coming! 👊
Michael, nice work brother! You should be a pro by now! Keep working hard and learning everything you can
for extra credit :) - when you are spacing out your text, you can drag and select a partial or whole line (Highlight) and adjustments are done to the whole line or selected amount. SAves doing one letter at a time :) new in 11.3
BlacklandGrass, very good points my friend!
i have learned more by just watching two of your videos, than watching the Vectric tutorials as a beginner. thank you for your easy to follow and learn videos.
user-yf4wg1of7j, im glad to hear it brother! Keep working hard and learning everything you can.
It’s virtually impossible for me to close your very informative lessons and I watch them several times 🐝💤😎
Buzzmay207, wow, thanks for sticking around brother! I'm humbled!
again as always you do a great job at teaching us how to use Vectric
Bccad88, glad to hear it my friend!
I'm following along on a phone so when you zoom in and out on the icons to see what your clicking, that is really helpful on the phone. Thank you
garciarosa100, you are so welcome brother!
I've been a CNC'er for over 20 years, but still learn many more things by watching Garrett's videos. Thank you for the flow of information Garrett!
Robert, glad to hear it brother! Keep learning everything you can.
Hi, Garrett, it's Harold; WOW, am I glad I found this video! I have been having a problem with tear-out between texts. Once again, not only have your instructions helped solve that problem, your teaching method has made it easier for me to grasp how to do ALL of these things described in this Aplus instructional video. Be blessed, my friend.
Harold, right on brother! Glad you found this one helpful.
@@IDCWoodcraft I find everything you post helpful/
I'M still Here. Thanks for the best teaching.
Michael, you're so welcome! Thanks for hanging out my friend!
As usual I've learned a few tricks I wasn't aware they existed. One being the control shift plus clicking the button in the upper right corner regarding text movement.
Stephen, that one has saved me so much time brother! With these machines, there's always something new to learn.
I am COMPLETELY new to CNC. Of all the videos I have looked at, yours are extremely detailed, step by step, and easy to follow. Thank you!

I have seen yesterday for the first time your videos super well explained even if my English is not so good but one understands everything you explain.
So thumbs up and subscribed.
Thank you and greetings from Germany.
Klaus, I'm glad they've been helpful! And welcome aboard my friend!
Garrett still here and loving the info. Great video as always.
Roland, thanks for sticking around brother! Glad you enjoyed it!
Garrett, you are the greatest, my friend. Your videos are always easy to follow and even the advanced ones you take the time to go over the basics of the software for any beginners that may be watching. That's the mark of a true instructor who loves teaching. You are the man. I have bookmarked every video I have been able to find of yours so when I get my CNC out of storage (hopefully after the first of the year), I can rewatch them and start making some awesome signs, and I am going to try doing some engraving on plexiglass (and yes, I will be getting a complete set of bits from you before I start) with some LED lighting around the perimeter.
John, wow thank you for the kind words my friend! I'm truly humbled and glad ot be a part of your cnc journey! I'm looking forward to you making your way into your shop and seeing what you create. You got this!
Very informative and yes, watched the whole thing
Dee, glad you enjoyed this video! Keep working hard and learning everything you can.
Thanks!
You're welcome, and thank you for the contribution. Very unexpected!
Nice clear instructions. Thank you.
Ozguzzi, you're so welcome!
It would be nice if Vectric had a function of adjusting horizontal spacing and vertical height of the complete text like LightBurn. Just a suggestion. Your CNC videos are great.
ntrumpdeplorable7781, that would be a great idea brother! I like that.
Garrett, Your instruction videos are great!
Patrick, thanks brother! I'm glad you like them!
Great job. Always good to learn from your videos. Keep'm coming.
Ron, more to come my friend! Thanks!
Thanks for the heads up on the freehand drawing Feature.
George, you're so welcome!

BradleyCooper, so glad to hear it! Ill keep it up.
I'm now at 1:05:24 almost hate to see ya go, but I did share this to myself so I can it watch again later. Have a great rest of your weekend.
Harold, glad you liked this video brother! Watching it a second time will be even more benefical.
Great info Garrett, thanks much.

Very very good. Thank you!
Denise, you're welcome!
Not bad. I made it to the very end. Yes, I did learn something.
Paul, thanks for sticking with me brother!
By the way, panning is from left to right or top to bottom, in and out is called zooming (middle mouse button) Kind regards Hans
hanspijpers2100, good point brother. Thanks for the tip on that one!
Awesome video. I learned alot.
David, glad it was helpful brother!
Great Information on Spacing letters to say the least ! 👌👌
Cjtoledor, glad you liked this one brother!
Thanks Garrett, Nice to learn how to make all those adjustments. I'm still working on my shop but it is coming together and hopefully within a couple weeks I'll be operational. I just want the shop to be done before I setup my longmill.
Frank, I'm glad it was helpful brother. It sounds like you are nearly there with your setup my friend. I'm looking forward to seeing what you create!
One more key cod: if you move things around with the cursor keys on your keyboard, the shift key enlarge the jump, and thee control key makes the jump smaller And with the image zoomed in, it can give extra fine steps. Kind regards Hans
p.s. in the help tab, the 2nd item is the shortcut keys page
hanspijpers2100, that is a great suggestion too brother. Moving around with the cursor keys makes things quite a lot quicker!
Enjoyed lesson, Very informative
rick, glad it was helpful!
Can’t wait to try the freehand tool
J Hampton, give it a try brother it's awesome!
More training videos for Vectric. I have not found another source for beginners to learn step by step. Thank you.
Jim, I will definitely be keeping them coming brother! Keep up the great work!
super good video new beginner , thanks
PerryShaw, happy to hear it brother.
Nice instruction Garrett.
Douglas, glad it was helpful brother!
Really good stuff .
Bob, glad you enjoyed it brother!
Hey Garrett awesome video thanx
flashgordon1599, you are so welcome brother!
By the way, there is yet another key code, for the text, and that is the alt key, that is for the entire line to widen or to narrow the spacing . In stead of 2 characters it rules the entire line of text,
For time saving it is faster to do it first on all the characters at once and then adjust the "mistakes" here and there.
So alt shift left mouse click broadens all the spaces at once etc. Kind regards Hans
hanspijpers210, very good points my friend. That would save quite a lot of time. Thanks for sharing!
Very helpful video. It would also be helpful to see you setup the toolpaths. Maybe even watch the carve.
billholt5573, I have a video that should really help you brother! Here is a link: ruclips.net/video/g1wp4Rzctl0/видео.htmlsi=-ggVNplcSgfjBoyZ
Brilliant garrett
Colin, happy to help brother!
Another great video! I'm still learning keyboard shortcuts, so this really helps.
Something I also found was that I could use the measuring tool to insure the distance between letters. But it seems there should be a menu item to do that, and if there is, I haven't found it yet.
Gary, glad this one helped you so much my friend. This video might help you too. Here is a link: ruclips.net/video/PetAHB1FEj4/видео.html

Garrett great video, I watched it three times. I've been watching your videos and Mark Lindsey, Kyle Ely, and just about anybody I find. What I have come away with is that knowing the software is really more important that selecting a CNC. I think I'm going to buy Vectric Pro because of all the great support it has. If you get a little something from them because of your videos where can I find that. Thanks alot for helping out real newbe's like myself.
Ted, I'm more than happy to help brother. Awesome! Thank you, I appreciate you thinking of me when purchasing your software. Here's my link for Vcarve Pro if you choose to use it→bit.ly/3d4WrEU.
that was a fun one

Nice video as always. Only approximately one month left before I order a longmill 48x30 and after that start my business:) can't wait. By the way LOVE YOUR BEGINNERS bit kit. I'm using them on my modified 3018 CNC.
You're going to love that 48x30 machine!! I have it and its GREAT. ❤
I paired that with IDC Woodcraft Bits and Garrett's instructional videos and I'm on my way now. You just can't go wrong with an amazing combination like that. 😊
🎶He's simply the best
Better than all the rest🎶🎸
F8th01, thank you! I'm glad the bits have been treating you well my friend it sounds like you've been putting them to good use! I'm looking forward to you getting your longmill in hand and seeing what you create!
very nice
Jim, thanks brother!
Another Great Lesson Brother, 😊
Im still considering buying a cnc .
I have a Laser ingraver though.
Edwymer, right on brother! Glad to hear this one helped you.
Hi Garrett…. How about the actual cutting setup for text …. tool selection and VCarve tool path settings in particular. I frequently have text that looks right when previewed but end up a mess when cut. Love your videos, I’ve been using VCarve for 10 years and I learn something new with almost every video!
Tim, great suggestion brother! I will add this to my video to do list. I appreciate the input!
setting up a design and noticed the text touching perfect timing on moving the text
Scott, I'm not sure what you mean on this one brother do you mind clarifying for me!
@@IDCWoodcraft i noticed some letters were touching on a couple of signs i carved. now i know how to fix the spacing but i failed to fix the spacing last night. always learning
This video is very helpful since 11.5 is much different than the 10. Version
Janet, glad to hear this one helped you!
Garrett, Just wondering if a written manual is available that covers all of your great teaching.
Jon, sorry brother I don't have a manual available as of yet. But, I like your thinking my friend!
My knowledge of using a CNC stops at turning it on! I’ve got a Longmill MK2 that’s fully assembled and ready for me to create something fantastic. I’ve watched several of your beginner videos, and have learned a great deal. Thank you for that! I’ve downloaded the trial version of VCARVE pro and the G-Sender program. Does the paid version come with a printed manual? Ya know, “CNC for Dummies” type book. Lol.
Anita, congrats on jumping into CNC with your Longmill! The paid version doesn't come with a printed manual but that would be a good idea. You should reach out to Vectric about it!
Garrett some of us myself included might want to know why you would want to do things as you’re doing them.
Robert, that's a great point brother. I'll try to explain more as I go in the future my friend!
still here , to interesting !
Louis, right on brother. Happy to have you here.
Still Here!☝
randalsullivan4453, happy to have you here brother!
This has been anwsering so many question I had, but just didnt know where to turn to, I'm just imaging the stuff im going to be creating from now on, yeah, man Great job, thank you.
I do have a question, for this free hand stuff, can I add a STYLUS to work with this software?, what as step up that yould be...
Cams, glad to hear this one helped you brother! As for a stylus, I am not too sure on that one. Reach out to vectric on how best to do it with your specific setup.
Garrett: First, thank you for all the videos and knowledge about CNC. Just getting into it all, and the videos are very informative and help out a lot. I took an Introductory class on CNC through our Woodworking Guild in Oregon and found your videos. With that, my question is, and I have not tried it yet, have you ever used a Stylus such as from Wacom Technology? They have digital tablets and displays that people use to design with Adobe Software, but also within CAD-based programs. As you noted in this video, you asked about using the Freehand tool that just came out in 11.5.x. I agree that using a laptop mouse or trackpad is not good, and I actually use a Trackball instead of a Mouse. Mice can run out of desktop space, and I continually move them around. So, a Trackball works for me. So with a Wacom Tablet, when you use the Freehand part, you would get better lines or flow better. What do you think about this? Again, great videos, and I just signed up for the insider email and joined the Facebook site.
Adam, sorry for the delay getting back to you it's been a crazy couple of weeks! You bring up excellent ideas about using a stylus and trackball but I haven't tried them out for myself as of yet! I will have to look a little deeper into these so thank you for sharing brother!
@@IDCWoodcraft Garrett: Thanks for the response. You were having a great time at Benchcon this past weekend. Take care and will look for a video or other notes about this. Appreciate the response. Take care.
Am still here thanks
George, happy to have you here my friend.
Wow, still here
Bill, thanks for sticking around brother!
I'm still here brother👍
Lippa618papalee4, happy to have you here brother!
How do you print letters and numbers vertical
Dick, you'll want to make a text box for each individual letter and then rearrange them how you want. That way you can get the vertical text you're looking for brother!
👌💜
masis886, glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent!! Been working with 11.5 for a few weeks now and didn't know about the control+shift trick! Thanks. can the free hand tool be used on a bit map? And would that help with the bit map tracing?
Well I guess I should have watched a little longer before asking that question ;) LOL
Darryl, you got to your own comment before I could brother! LOL I'm glad I could help, that control + shift trick saves a lot of time. Happy cutting!
Hi Garrett great video's, i have watched loads of your video's but am absolutely new to cnc i have followed your instruction on a design but have Very silly question how do i send the command from my pc to my cnc machine to cut it out or engrave my work. sorry am using Vectric software.
Gary, you are going to need a software package called gSender or Universal Gcode Sender. You will be able to send your toolpath instruction files to your CNC that way.
Cheers Garrett much appreciated sir @@IDCWoodcraft
👍👍
LouisDeschamps, glad you liked this one too my friend.
Hi Garrett,
I have version 11.016 now. Does vectric offer an upgrade to 1.5 ? I would really like to be able to freehand. As always, you are a great teacher and I have learned so much from your videos.
Thank you,
Greg, I'm not 100% sure on this one brother. I recommend reaching out to Vetric directly, they should be able to help you out with upgrading!
@@IDCWoodcraft ok, thank you Garrett! Have a great weekend sir.
Still here
Steve, right on brother. Happy to have you here!
Question:
Some fonts I select type the 'box' sideways...no idea why?
Anyhoooo, I select the box and rotate it to horizontal.
Somehow the box will NOT go horizontal under ANY condition or magnification.
eg: Once the box is set horizontal it bounces off horizontal once the left mouse is released.
I've searched and can't find a solution.
Thought you might know.
Some programs the use of SHIFT will align to either horizontal or vertical but not this one
Thanks,
N
N Spctor, depending upon the font you are using or have imported into windows from a website might turn out that way. Your best bet is to use fonts that are approved by Vectric with a TTF format!
@@IDCWoodcraft
Thanks, I'll do more research in the matter.
Cheers,
N
Is there a list, a cheet sheet for shortcut?
duane, sorry my friend I'm not too sure what you mean on this one. Are you looking for a checklist of steps to follow? If so, I'm sorry I haven't created something like this as of yet!
I just made a sign that was suppose to be 24” with a 23.5 rectangle for the cut out of the text but my long mill shrunk my lettering down to about 18 “. I made 3 signs and it didn’t it to all of them. What did I do wrong?
Karen, this one is a little too tricky to answer over comment my friend. I recommend joining Kate and I for our RUclips live session every Wednesday (including tonight) at 8PM EST and we should be able to walk you through it!
