You see Chevy motors in Fords all the time but you will never see a Chevy man running a Ford engine. The LS series engines are simple reliable and fast reasonably priced. In addition to the Ford motors not putting out as much power..they are bulky and heavy.
I still have a brand new LS1 that I got from Pace Performance to put in my TransAm since at the time it had 259,000 miles on it and I thought it would die soon. But here I am sitting at 394,000 miles and it's still going. The old LS1 has been replaced by the superior LS3 motors but I only gave $2800 bucks delivered to my shop.The is a new factory long block not rebuilt from GM. Anyway it is possible to get 400 RWHP from only bolt ons from the best tuners...luckly Speed Engineering is very close to me so when I finally put the engine in I can take it to them and let them do the "X package" magic.
Stop Hating on the most famous LS powered vehicle on you tube, this car is now an urban legend, and rightfully so, pullin 9's with a stock 5.3 w/ a single Turbo, just shows you what someone can do if they know how to dial in a car, that means, tuning, suspension, gears, and most of all DRIVER!!!! Good job guys, I get a big kick out of your Fairmont vids. Now build something even more outrageous, but keep it low buck to keep the spirit of what your doing!!!!

This car speaks and engine combo speaks for itself, period. Look at the numbers. Great level headed bunch of guys, enjoying some fantastic performance mods...and laying down some serious fun. Its gets very difficult to keep things under control at high boost. Most street boost is under 10 psi...this motor is very strong no doubt. You FORD lovers put 18 psi into your stock motor on the dyno and have a seat on the intake manifold. Please post the video afterwards.
Cool Fairmont. I had a new '79 back 30 years ago and love that wagon, to the point a trying to get one and remodding it, Grest boxey car and they were built well. Amazing times on your rig, Congrats!!!!! LRSS

@CAflatty as long as you dont sit over the sparkplugs you should be ok, with fords high quality casting process and head design, id be more worried about the 500 feet per second spark plug that blows out under normal driving conditions conditions. purchasing the tools to repair those heads was the smartest decision i ever made, thanks ford for keeping me employed!

if you read the full title, you will notice he said STOCK ls motor. this is a junkyard 5.3 with boost. so yes at the time he was the fastest stock 5.3 and may still be. the fastest stock bottom end car has and ls6 cam and ls9 headgaskets and went 8.65 at 167
The LS engines have strong guts, period. Much stronger than the ford offering. Every boosted '03 - '05 cobra I've so far seen costed the owner a crazy amount of cash and in the end the ford still falls way short of the GM LS internals strength and the LS spanks them handily and for many $1000s of dollars less. Hell, the high boost that an LS engine takes speaks for itself.
@spartan177saber Twice the amount of air... Boost is a measurement of pressure just like psi.. so if they both have 20 psi or 20 lbs of boost the manifold pressure is the same.. output of the turbo is different.

Psi = pounds (of forced air/boost) per square inch. 20 psi on 1 square inch is 20 pounds of boost, 20 psi on 2 square inches is 40 pounds of boost. It's simple math. However I do realize most people when they say 20 pounds of boost they mean 20 psi, I was just being specific.
i would prefer a ford in my ford, ... but i would still point out , that looks awesome under the hood, most definitely a bad ass car. i would love to have that as a daily driver :)
@iRLadyKi113r this whole car had $4k in it. the trans was a th400 with a couple cheap upgrades, the engine was a $250 5.3 with a used $100 ls6 cam & valvesprings and a $400 mp70 turbo on it with home made manifolds/piping with a $100 ebay intercooler. the rear end was an 8.8" out of a mustang with 31 spline axles. one of the guys that built it daily drove it for over a year and the car made over 100 9 second passes before it was sold. i know almost everything there is to know about this car -

@iRLadyKi113r actually it was that cheap from a slavage yard, not from a "buddy" i can buy complete ready to drop in 5.3s from the local salvage yard for $400, back when this car was built i couldve bought one for $200-300. and this motor runs 9.40's and cost $250, so id say you can pick up motors that are "worth a fuck" for less than 800, not ohc mod motors of course, but pushrod motors, that dont completely suck, yes
@eggfromsywell i dont know this car but it looks pretty close to spec but to go faster than 10.00 the chassi must be nhra certified and the driver needs a competition license.
If your running 12-18 psi of boost how well did the head gaskets hold up? Planning on trying this setup but would rather stick to my 700R4, dont know yet.

as soon as you throw the turbo into the mix all bets are off for it being 'stock' even though the engine isnt cracked open. There are still faster "stock" combos.

The motor is 100% stock with a turbo. Everything inside is factory. These 5.3l are power houses. Search for the camaro with a 5.3l stock making 900hp before she finally blew up.

@1320video it was a stock 5.3 with turbo camshaft and 18 or 20 psi with race gas. and megasquirt for tuning.
prime example of true hot rodding.
it was a bad ass car for what it was built cheap and ran amazing numbers down the track and drove to the track, raced and then drove home
my 4.8 owns the record for the quickest stock bottom 4.8 ls motor, in street trim it runs 9.3 at 150, gonna try a looser converter next and go for 8s.

not too many guys realise the potental of the 5.3. further more, the 4.8 gets awesome mpg and still has v8 power out of the box.

Ive done 8.90@ 152mph, with ls1 alloy engine, i did have rod bolts though.

remove interior, replace all sheet metal with fiber glass and replace glass with plexiglass. see how much faster it gets..
