You know, it's people like Eric who restore my faith in humanity. It's not just about playing a guitar, it's the dedication & passion of teaching his craft. Many thanks Eric.
So what you're saying is that in the key of A minor, the relative major is C, therefore use D Dorian derived from the C major scale. That's the way I do it, rather than having to learn a whole bunch of new fingerings for each mode. Would you agree with that?
This was the BEST explanation of the Dorian scale I have seen. It was like you unlocked a door. Thanks !!’
The Dorian is the Santana scale he made a living out of it
I’ve been playing guitar for 12 years and never learned all the scales or any modes. I barely even understand it all. Really kicking myself for that now
Eric, AS USUAL, you explain things in a simple way that anyone can understand. I watch other vids by really excellent guitarists but your explanation of Dorian finally made me understand. Thanks, brother!
As usual-excellent video! You get right down to the point, no endless babble, and you explain without whizzing thru it, then give examples. Born a teacher!!! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!!!
Does Santana use this scale a lot? Sounds like him
Mr. Blackmon, you need to put together a DVD learning series on your different lessons, beginner on up. Your videos are how I'm learning after deciding to play guitar when I turned 50
You're showing relative modes, which I can get without issues. But how about Parallel modes where the root notes stays the same but the intervals apart from each other change from the major root or Ionian mode. Like whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, whole step, half step. I know afterward if in key of C, the C Dorian starts on C again but the intervals now change causes sharps or flats to enter the C modal scale. This is what I guess I'm looking for. Something about the differences being, Tonal (same notes in the scale, C) is completely different than Modal (where the notes are NOT all the same in the scale). Is there a video on Parallel modes? As opposed to Relative modes.
❤fenomeno great tutorial 👍

I’ve been having a little bit of a hard time wrapping my mind around modes and how to use them. This is the most understandable explanation so far. I think I’m starting to get it now. Thanks.
Finally explained in a way I can understand. Thank you brother.💪🏾
