That live version should be watched as a twofer with The Song Remains the Same leading into it. The contrast between the two is great, and they’re both epic in different ways.
Jimmy (and JPJ) probably had had well enough of the "made to order" pop machine from all his 60's session work. By the time he got to Zeppelin, he had enough clout to put his foot down. I'm sure having Peter Grant as a manager helped with that, too.

We were able to go through all the Seasons of Our Emotions together and Yes a little rain must fall.Becuase of Her Battle to live it may appear to have been torrential down pour from the Outside.Becuase of Our Love for each other to us it was truly a little rain till the very end. Oh yeah the whole concept of a stereo track was pretty new when Zep was playing in the studio, so experimenting with how to use the left and right channels to deliver new experiences was part of their jam. It's something that has been a little lost now that stereo is ubiquitous.
That moment when the lounge singer says, "Thank you! You're marvelous! I'm gonna take the room down for a second..." - Zeppelin invented that shit! Or at least perfected it.
this song was a result of George Harrison saying to Led zeppelin that they had not done any ballads, so Jimmy and Robert came back with this and used the same cords George used in "Something" as a homage to him, it also shows Jimmy's brilliance by using a very unique guitar tuning, great song.

Jimmy Page was underrated as a producer on their albums, knowing what he wanted in the studio. You can quickly lose track of all the different elements here. It's also a very diverse album, with folky elements, synthesizers, treated vocals, an attempt at reggae (!) and some loose-limbed rockers. Some thought they were losing the plot, but they were just expanding the sound.
Jimmy had such an ideal apprenticeship in the 60's for production. Working during the week being one of the top session guys and with the best producers of the time at such a tender age - all that experience. But also being a true rebellious rock'n'roll guy at heart and playing rock'n'roll and blues in clubs in weekends. He wasn't like a burned out middle-aged session player just punching the clock and dreaming about his pension. Biding his time, cutting his teeth, and developing his vision which eventually blew us all away. One of a kind.
I know you love Robert’s voice... he also has a great solo career after Bonham died. He reinvented himself time and time again. You’ll love his solo stuff

This beautiful melody was composed by Jimmy and Robert wrote the lyrics. It was in response to a comment by the Beatles George Harrison who said to John Bonham that LZ never wrote a ballad and by implication, most likely couldn't. I say this is every bit as good as any piece the Beatles wrote. The theme is wonderful, but like all Zeppelin music, it is the full texture of development that brings so much more to it. You said it all, "It's Led Zeppelin!" Nothing more to say. I love that you call this your "Zepathon." This was one of the first complete songs I learned on guitar. The guitar tuning used by Jimmy Page on this song is often called “Rain Song” tuning. Amazing reaction, thanks for this one.
Those guys brought all these influences to the table. John Paul Jones and Jimmy page had been session players since waaay back when. They absorbed all the recording techniques, the songwriting, the genres, BEFORE they ever started this group. Page and Plant really loved traditional Celtic Music and Folk/Celtic stuff that was contemporary to them. They had ALL of that, and I'm sure most bands in the UK in the late sixties had access to those influences. But the arranging and songwriting and musicianship and quality of recording was just moved up 10000000% with these guys. I remember when the stuff came out past LZ II and all I could think was, "Man, how DIFFERENT this all sounds!" and Jayy, you sense that too!

One reason the guitar sounds so beautiful,open G tuning was used,meaning that,with no fingers on the fretboard,the strings form a G chord when strummed.This allows for unusual and beautiful chords.

I love these reaction videos coz they make me listen to this music with fresh ears. I'd almost forgotten how beautiful it is. Like taken it for granted, it was the soundtrack of my youth. But yuour reaction reminds mew of what it was like when i first heard it. Awesome then and still is.

The whole “channel effect “ Left and right you are talking about was new at the time and several bands accentuated that effect. What’s amazing is how they can make it sound like there’s a THIRD channel in the middle and in the back of your head 😎.
I think some of the greatest music ever made happened in the 70's. Bands today are not creating music like this. The layering of the instruments in the arrangement , people actually playing their instruments , no auto tune just pure talent. The versatility of Led Zeppelin was a thing of beauty to hear like The Beatles before them. This is classic rock for a reason , timeless !

I don't think I'll ever see or hear of another band that will come close to their ability to give the listener such a range of emotions. Certainly not in my lfetime. Little did I realise when I bought their first album 50 years ago, that I was witnessing complete genius in the making. Their music has affected my life in so many positive ways. Thank you guys.
They are all incredibly strong musicians. Page is innovative, Jones is classically trained, Bonham adds power and dynamics and Plant’s vocals fit perfectly adding sex appeal.

I have been listening to Led Zeppelin since I was a teenager (in the '70s!) and still I get gooseflesh at that big push into the third verse.
Jimmy Page's greatest attribute is producing. He arranged, mixed and produced everyone of those tracks.

I'm sure the first 4 bars of "Rain Song" is an inside joke from Page to Harrison as that part sounds an awful lot like "Something."

I think some of the greatest music ever made happened in the 70's. Bands today are not creating music like this. The layering of the instruments in the arrangement , people actually playing their instruments , no auto tune just pure talent. The versatility of Led Zeppelin was a thing of beauty to hear like The Beatles before them. This is classic rock for a reason , timeless !

One of my all time favorite Led Zeppelin songs, makes me tear up every time I hear it, so many memories of my teen years listening to this.
I don't think I'll ever see or hear of another band that will come close to their ability to give the listener such a range of emotions. Certainly not in my lfetime. Little did I realise when I bought their first album 50 years ago, that I was witnessing complete genius in the making. Their music has affected my life in so many positive ways. Thank you guys.

They are all incredibly strong musicians. Page is innovative, Jones is classically trained, Bonham adds power and dynamics and Plant’s vocals fit perfectly adding sex appeal.
