    Hope you enjoyed, I know I messed up on a couple of small details, it was my first real video editing experience, something I hope to continue if I get inspired again!

      Great documentary about a fascinating band, in an obscure ish scene. Great job friend. I hope you make more of these and thanks for turning me on to a great band. FYI one of the things that works is you use clips of the actual music, which should be legal and allowable because you are using it in a critique. Maybe ask the music lawyer member what the exact rules on that are. I’ve watched other band documentaries where they don’t use any of the bands music which I assume is due to YT rules primarily. I imagine it’s a lot more work to do the sound design as well, but it I really like that part of it. 🌊🌊🌊🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️

    Found this band because Numero reissued Grow as a teaser that they were reissuing the album, then listened to that when it came out. Really fantastic shoegaze that stands out when compared to the rest of the bands of the time, especially in the US. They've influenced me a lot, and are part of the reason that I started making shoegaze. They're so underrated. Great video!!

    They were just way ahead of their time, and definitely one of the pioneers of shoe gaze. Was very lucky to have gotten to enjoy them in the 90s. Great documentary

    Good mini doc on one of my favs! I was in a shoegaze band called Stillmotion that existed during the same time as MC. We met them one time in Rochester, NY where we were based. We had opened for Catherine Wheel, and MC may also have been on that bill. I just can't remember. Stillmotion had a somewhat similar story/ experience in that we really gave it our best shot, but we were in an even more unlikely city, and never got a record deal with the exception of a 7" put on on Word of Mouth Records in LA. We opened some shows for some other bigger bands, recorded some EPs, and had some help from an A&R at Def American (now American) Records. But as grunge blew up, shoegaze faded.

    As a REAL music lover I have to say that strangely I’m glad they never got a chance to sell out or get crappy. I think you real underground music lovers know what I’m talking about. It’s like turning on the common commercial radio station and hearing The Magnetic Fields. As a fan of The Magnetic Fields I’d be super pissed off

    This is fantastic, one of the absolute best bands to EVER come out of Detroit..yes, I said EVER. I remember seeing them live back in the day..people started tossing pennies on stage during penny for love, Dave starts picking them up, as the song ended , he says “cool, I think I have enough here for a 40 ouncer” 😂😂❤

    Deep cut! I only know them because my old man must have seen them a hundred times in the 90s. I've never seen any flyers or references to them in any venue or record shop in Detroit whereas you can find out what John Brannon had for breakfast on a cold day in 1994. Odd

    Great story, reminds me a little of a band named Dandelion Fire over in the '90s New Brunswick, NJ indie scene. They opened for some of the same UK bands, maybe during these same US tours, but were more Madchester influenced shoegaze. I think just one album was released, produced by Matt Pinfield of MTV 120 Minutes fame.

    Funny, I knew Odell and the Hobey quite well. Met Dave (singer of Crush) when Odell was still in Spahn Ranch and I remember the David showing up and Spahn Ranch was practicing, and at the break the David hopped on a piano and started playing / singing and Odell and Hobey joined in… knew that was gonna be trouble.
    For me, I hated them if I’m being honest (not the music), but they / Singer/Dave were the ‘other women’ that stole key members of Spahn Ranch (my band at the time, I was managing them at that point, and we just got back from an east coast tour where they opened for Savage Republic, which was great to see live…), and yeah, he/they broke up the band, and that kinda sucked cause for me, yeah I still prefer Spahn Ranch over Crush any day.

      Glad a Spahn ranch fan found this, isn’t often I hear about the pre crush days with Hobey, Odell, and David

    My problem is with the quality of the production studios in Detroit between the 80s and early 90s. If you listen to that opening riff of Nirvana, 013:45 you can hear the difference in production value over bands like majesty crush and it’s really shameful.
    Detroit had the bands but lacked the Unity & Recording Quality

    • @HenryBoyer313
      @HenryBoyer313  Год назад

      Good point, thanks for your perspective, I’m not an expert on production but certainly majesty crush’s production was weaker until love 15, I don’t think production was the issue by 1993, other issues arose for them

    • @colonialstraits1069
      @colonialstraits1069 Год назад

      Money buys better production. Nirvana’s budget was probably 100x that of MC.
