Cool piece of gear. I agree, no Amazon or eBay after an episode of The Walking Dead. If you do throw this please make a video of it. Thanks for sharing and God bless.
Ha. Amazon and Tractor Supply are dangerous places. I'm not sure I can throw it. I have torn labrums in each shoulder. Throwing things can be hazardous to my well being. I'm hoping TheSogGrunt chimes in. Have a great day!
I wrapped hockey tape around the handle of mine. A friend of mine worked for Cold Steel for years and said it would be best to re-enforce the handle, so I took his advice and don’t regret it. Love the video thank you!
Ha!! I bought a SOG kit at Canadian Tire, it comes with a giant knife, a hatchet, and a collapsible shovel. I know all about buying dumb shit.😂🤣 I’m starting to think you are long lost family, my wife just shakes her head at the stuff I buy anymore. Throwing knives and axes was my last attempt at collecting, my kids are gonna have one hell of a yard sale when I’m gone.😂🤣 Have a great day Negan.👍🇨🇦🔪
Hahaha! Well, don't tell anyone but, I have two Bear Grills knives. Oh, the shame. lol I do sometimes carry the good one in the woods. If anyone told me I would have so much in common with an "Upper Canadian" lol. I thought y'all voted for Trudeau 🤔🤣
@@Pocket_EDC No room for Trudeau in my home, im actually seeing a change here in Southern Ontario. Im about a hour from Toronto, people are really starting to change, I think skippy has finally wore out his welcome. I can’t wait to see the back of him.
Pretty interesting tool. Cold Steel’ has produced some worthy knives and Machetes over the years. It definitely combines some Mid Evil battle axe attributes. I could see this tool in specialized military or rescue units. It’s a pretty hefty Battle axe. Mounted in the jeep or truck👍 might be a bit much strapped on the belt or side of a pack. Love Cold steel’ stuff. Thanks for sharing
I the same, from the rescue aspect. I've had fire fighters inquire about a SOG Fast Hawk, looking for a more portable breaching tool for carrying on ladders and into burning structures. I have a Jeep. it could easily be mounted to a roll bar. And certainly, good for the zombies. Thanks for having alook.
I bought one because I had the extra cash and an interest. Got it for less than 30 bucks. I can see myself drawing serious blood (self inflicted) with that point end. So it stays in my storage box with all the other edged things I've bought over the years and don't have a use for. lol I have the Trail Hawk, Norse Hawk and 2 different Cold Steel camp axes. Those see work and I love them.
I did have one commenter say they had one for several years and would throw it. I need to sneak it to work and x-ray it sometime. Really curious if there is a solid core in the handle. I have this nagging feeling the handle could fold.
I love Cold Steel but that tomahawk design has no advantage. The haft is neither field replaceable like a wood haft, nor is it nearly indestructible like a monolithic steel construction.
@@Pocket_EDC The Cold Steel Pipe Hawk is by far my favorite from the lineup and one of my favorite camp axes for many years. I could replace the handle with a section of sapling in 2 minutes if necessary.
@@nobodyatall7039 Thanks for that information. I will make note of the name/model. I've used a SOG Fast Hawk for many years. It's time is coming. You may have just lined up it's replacement. Have a great evening.
I have that axe. I almost killed myself with it by closely impaling my skull. While chopping double fisted, the spike almost impaled the back of my head. Now I know to be careful
If nothing else it would make a good melee weapon, and can still use it for wood cutting and breaching. I have the Trail Hawk, its a much smaller hawk but I really like it.
If we get to the point that we're all fighting over scraps, I'll be ready😁. I've carried a SOG Fast Hawk, in the woods or camping, for years. A moderate sized tomahawk is a great tool. Thanks for having a look! Have a great day!
I have this same Cold Steel tomahawk/axe in black . I went on a CS buying frenzy a couple of years back and bought a ton of their stuff. You never know with zombies, I guess lol.
Hey, the CDC put out a video a few years ago on how to prep for a zombie apocalypse. Maybe they know something. 😃😂😅 Better safe then sorry. Thanks for having a look.
@Pocket_EDC yes Sir, I saw that lol. I think the government uses Hollywood to warn us about impending stuff. UFO's, wars..zombies 😆. I guarantee you if there is ANY possibility of real zombies, the US government and a couple of others are working hard on making them a reality to use as weapons and, of course as always, they will screw it up and we will suffer the consequences lol.
I can't say that your wrong. Too many people focus on the "can we do it?" and not enough on "should we do it?". Then there is the "how can I make money of it or put myself in power with it?" crowd. It's those of us that just want to get through another day that pay the price. Take care out there.
🤣🤣 yeah and don't get on Amazon when your medicated either I ordered 700 dollars worth of stuff evidently. At least that's what Amazon said. I had accidentally ordered everything In my cart. Lesson learned. I am loving the design on the head of that axe though. Don't sneeze that axe will give you a splitting headache 😂 much love to ya my Canadian brother.
Hahaha! Ouch! That was an expensive visit. I can see myself making that mistake. It's certainly designed for some, uuuumm, aggressive applications. 😁 Any time I use it, I am VERY conscious of that rear spike. Thanks for having a look and have a great day, bother!
Had a weapon smith make a copy of a 1500 century single hand axe/spike hawk that has held up for decades and over a half dozen combat deployments. I will stick with that.
You dont need a super steel Lazer sharp weapon for zombies just some good chain male and a four foot pole with sharpen piece of metal lashed to the end.
I look at the Canadian wilderness and it’s so beautiful. But I couldn’t take the laws. I love having my firearms and having one on me. I also love having a fixed blade on me. The thing that really turned me off to Canada was a true crime story I watched. A kid was riding a bus in Canada. He was sitting next to a psychopath and didn’t know it. The psychopath had a large combat knife and did some really horrible things to the kid and his corpse. The young man had no way to defend himself. If that was in Texas where I live … more than likely it would not have went as far. Sad thing is the nutcase is now free after doing some time. I’m sure most Canadians know what I’m talking about. One of the main stories that made me always have something to give me a fighting chance. God bless y’all.
Thanks, James! We do have some beautiful country up here. You are right, though. Our knife and gun laws up here are foolish. It is literally illegal to carry anything for self defense up here. Of I am walking with a walking stick and a police officer tells me it good that I have it because it is a bad neighborhood, and I agree, IL arrested for carrying a weapon for self defense. I greatly envy what some of you have in the US. I remember that story. Guy got an early release on metal health grounds. Tragic. Thanks for the comment. You have a great and blessed day as well

Bashing with those increase grip strength!!! I crushed some 20 some year old's hand in a handshake grip because I was testing the Trench Hawk for days. As a minimalist I'm sad that my Estwing technically outperformed my Trench Hawk for making firewood because both the Trenchy and War Hawk seem like the most powerful blunt force weapons (yes I know it's not a mace or bat) just holding them increase testosterone. --- I could explain why that I can't really deny that the Estwing is better for Bushcraft in my opinion but I'd rather tell that I broke the Trench Hawk after maybe 500 or more throws. I then JB welded the screws and wrapped another Hawk in gorilla glue and electric tape at the most vulnerable breaking points and then I abused the living crap out of it and tried to break it on purpose by prying and etc. It looked like shit and got slightly bent but it was indestructible henceforth .... Even not sharpening it at all after severe use, it will still stick in anything
the cold steel hawks (war and trench) can do fine work better and the spike help to snap and pry open shattered pieces of wood off a downed tree whereas the Estwing Black Eagle can baton but you need a knife to feather stick
Good information. Thank you. I haven't handled an Estwing, so I don't have that knowledge to compare. I can see where prolonged use of the Trench Hawk would up your grip strength. I'm impressed the Trench Hawk held up to 500 throws. The back spike would certainly be good for prying wood. For feather sticking with a larger axe, I find bracing the axe in a stationary position and then drawing the stick across the blade can make it easier. Thanks for the tips and have a great day!
$65 dollars for an axe with a hollow plastic handle. How much more would Cold Steel have had to charge to make the handle solid? If the handle needs to be re-enforced, why buy it? An axe with a hollow plastic handle 🙄
I can't confirm for sure that it is. I am only going by feel and sound. But yes, that would seem like a very poor design choice. At some point, I will get an x-ray of it to be sure. Thank you for having a look! Have a great day!

If the handle is hollow, and gives when you squeeze it, it probably should be re-enforced.
If it needs to be re-enforced why would you buy it?
