    I've had one of these for a few years now, it replaced my daily hip knife easily and does perform ok as a hatchet. This kind of tool was definitely intended for a certain type of approach to tasks. There's a spectrum of accuracy, consistency and leverage depending on your needs.
    This can definitely be classed as a multi tool.
    My spark rod hasn't broken yet but after this video I will be a little less aggressive with it. I found the cord handle a bit too slippery at first but after accidentally getting my bow string wax on there it ended up working great. The little ring that holds on to the end of the spark rod definitely made an occasional noise so a bit of cord tied through it fixed that easily.
    To me this is a great tool that I always carry outdoors instead of a knife, it's more like a really powerful pocket knife.

    how is there steel from the blade running the length down to the bottom of the handle when there is firesteel in the base? that's a pretty large amount of real estate that firesteel cavity resides in... soooo ? I know u can SEE it, but that would b an incredibly thin bit of steel between the wall of the firesteel and the edge of the handle.

    They should make the bigger size firesteel for the hawk. I wouldn't worry about it too much only as a last resort fire steel.

    Solid review Tim, as always! Just wondering how the handle screws held up after use? Didn't come loose at all? I've never really been a fan of SOG tomahawks, because of the construction! (not full tang) however this hawk, could be the turning point for me! It reminds me of the Voodoo hawk! The cutting edge at least.... Thanks for shearing with us all. 👍👍

    This looks like a great hawk. I'm sure you are trying to figure out how one would get off the paracord in an emergency if you didn't have a knife, but I wouldn't ever use your teeth, if you break a tooth you could open yourself up for an infection and big issues. Atb, Dawn

    the hawk's firesteele may have broke on his but damn that looks like one hell of a tomahawk in my opinion, especially with that full tank design, lightweight and innovates a dedicated area for the fire Steele to be striked and securely and efficiently stored, along with the convenience of a paracord handle, possible useful pry tip haha honestly have no clue what it's for though and the rough Hammer edge-like design in the center of the hatchet end for collecting tinder

      @Itsogaitnas 7 лет назад

      kalaallstar19 Are you sure? I got it yesterday and tried it quickly on a little piece of wood laying around in my apt. I accidentally slip and very slightly *touched* the ground with the axe and bam, the upper corner flattened with no resistance or necessary force! I'm a bit skeptical and scared to use it that being the case. Do you really use it for outdoor purposes? If so, have you had any issues with it?

    • @Itsogaitnas
      @Itsogaitnas 7 лет назад

      EverydayTacticalVids Really looking forward to see your review! I got it yesterday and I'm actually a bit skeptical about the product, the quality and actual strenght of the blade!

    • @Itsogaitnas
      @Itsogaitnas 7 лет назад

      EverydayTacticalVids On the other hand, the saw or "bread knive" is hilarious but surely useful when you're trying to start a fire!

  • @eddraper

    I tend to regard all things SOG with a tinge of suspicion. I've seen them put out some real junk. Their stuff tends to look cool and be reasonably priced, but poor quality when compared to competitors. Having the fire steel break on the first day of use is not something easily excused in my book.

    Any advice in how to sharpen it? I struggle with mine hahaha

    • @canderoussnurd4265
      @canderoussnurd4265 6 месяцев назад

      If you’re still interested.
      You sharpen the blade with a sharpening stone or a typical knife sharpening tool. It you want to adjust the grind use a belt grinder but be super careful with that. Since it’s a tool for chopping you don’t have to be as precise as you would with a knife but it doesn’t hurt to go over your blade with a smoothing tool to buff out the uneven spots along the edge and give it more uniformity. Keep her oiled and she’ll work for you till your dying day. She’s not exactly a Cold Steel or a Kabar but she’ll do her job well as long as you don’t use her for stupid things like trying to chop bricks with it. (No seriously I’ve seen people do that and I can’t figure out why because at no point would the though occur to me to use a hatchet to chop bricks as that is what a rock hammer is for.).
      Hope that helped for what it’s worth 6 years later.

    • @EverydayTacticalVids
      @EverydayTacticalVids  9 лет назад +1

      +Johnny Jaruwan (Double J) Hatchets are usually smaller in length and for smaller camp tasks in general. Tomahawks were originally used a weapons and then also as tools. Usually a shorter blade on a hawk vs. an axe.

    • @Doogie769
      @Doogie769 9 лет назад

      hatchet handles come up from the bottom and have to be wedged. Tomahawk come down from the top of the head and are an interference fit.

    45 bucks, and in it's first use, the ferro rod breaks???? They need to fix that. While it's true that can happen with rods, I have several and only one has come out of it's handle, it didn't break.....so a little super glue fixed that.
