Italy seems to do that for events they host. They had centurions in previous archery events too. Centurions look so weird without spears tho. Just go all out and complete the look
Italians exaggerate everywhere they can, and also, as protofascism there is on the rise, they have obvious nostalgia after Roman empire. These poor Roman centurion sods are funny as fu*k, but if you know the context, suddenly they are not.
