Bernice Shiner Gera holds a place of honor in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. As the first woman to umpire a professional baseball game, her photograph, pink whisk broom, and uniform or displayed in The Hall.
The thumbnails are fairly random, honestly! It's a total coincidence if the thumbnail is of the real contestant, really. On some video thumbnails it's the real contestant, on some it isn't. Really. :) Glad you're enjoying the videos!
In the final game (the military cook) I knew #1 was not the one when he said a thermometer stuck into a pork roast would register 400 degrees. That might be the temperature of the oven into which the roast goes, but the meat would never get that hot.
In Round #2, I think it's a woeful sign of how American society has gone down hill that Tom Poston would ask a woman what "mugging" was with the expectation that she might not know, unless she were the real "Decoy Policewoman."
@@loissimmons6558 I don't know exactly when "mugging" became a term that was known among the general population, but I'm fairly sure that it was known by 1962--especially in big cities like New York.

Contestant #3 of the Decoy policeman said she was a professional baseball player. She said baseball not softball. Does anyone have any idea about this?

Kitty Carlisle ask the cooking instructor about cadmium which is a metal. I think she was probably thinking of the spice cardamom.
I had the same thought about cardamom vs. cadmium.
Contestant 3 in Game # 2 later became the first female umpire in a professional baseball game! Bernice Shiner Thomas Gera.
I went hunting for this bit of trivia! Thank you!!!
Good catch. Unfortunately she didn't last very long. As I recall, she walked out after her first game.

As far as I could find, mugging is not a legal term. A mugging could include elements of battery, assault and robbery. These would be the legal terms.
Women (and men) have always been mugged.
