So the B M speaker feels betrayed when the B W didn't choose a blk king yet he turns to the W W to ask what she can do to feel more accepted by B W? This is such a double standard. When the B M dates out its fighting the power yet when a B W dates out its betrayal.

@@santolina8 But he never actually confronted HIS prejudices. Saying "I felt some type of way" isn't the same as taking accountability: "I have a habit of projecting onto interracial relationships or judging black women unfairly for being in them." He hinted that he doesn't like interracial relationships and acknowledged the stigma but not WHY it was there, the nuances surrounding it, when it is/isn't justified, or how to get over it. Nor did he approach the situation from the framework of HIM needing to confront is OWN prejudices and learn. That led to the episode coming off as shallow.
Plus the fact that he pointed out that he "felt some type of way" about the Black woman, ignored her White partner most of the video, but then called the Black man with his White partner cute... Implied the Black community lost an educated Black woman to a White man but DIDN'T imply the same for the Black guy.... Asked the White woman if SHE felt bad about dating a Black guy, but not the Black guy if he felt bad for being an educated man who (metaphorically) abandoned Black women... And used the analogy of sexual domination to justify why a Black man dating a White woman is okay but the reverse isn't... He wants to create a "safe space" for these conversations and to do that he feels the need to come off as this wise, ever calm sage. And that makes sense. BUT when he presents himself that way in a situation where he's clearly not he creates a disconnect that turns a lot of people off because you can tell he's pretending to be something he's not.
Again, I understand where he's coming from, but an even more effective way would be if he also showed vulnerability. Not just in regards to sharing his experiences with discrimination. But with his own shortcomings as a person, his blindspots and prejudices that he needs to work on too. That way there'd still be a safe space and humility but less of a disconnect.

I am 60 years old. I like to feel I'm woke enough to navigate modern society. My sister dated and eventually married a black man. It created an minor uproar in our family, especially with our father. My feelings from the very first were that if he is a good man, treats my sister well, if she loves him then who am I to say a single word against it. He was, and IS, a good man. They are happy together and still married after all this time. I have not spoken nor communicated with our father since his tirade. In a previous episode you spoke to the practice of whites trying to raise children "color blind". That is exactly what my wife and I tried to do. Not that my children didn't notice skin color differences but it didn't seem to matter to them. Now, my oldest son is in love with a beautiful black woman and they are happy together. My prayers are that these times will not negatively affect them even though I know in my heart they will not escape all prejudice. I know growing up white in America is a vastly different experience than what you have been exposed to. My hope is that we can all find a way to set aside the ways, the evil of the past and treat each other as brother and sisters, regardless of skin color. I had hoped it would happen in my lifetime but with a leader like we have now, division seems to be the flavor of the day. I am still hopeful but not as much as before. Thank you for this series.

The truth is, with the way black culture is, a white person isn't yet in a position to have a real uncomfortable conversation with a black man, unless those two people are actual intellectuals. Everyday people can't have these conversations because they won't listen to and understand each other. That's why the white people who have appeared on this show just say things like "HEARD" or say very little at all. This show is designed from the view point of, "I'm black, now do as I say." That's not how it works and why he doesn't have 100,000,000 people watching as opposed to 2,000,000. I also seriously doubt there are that many people watching, jus the same ones that follow and a few people like me who are interested to see where this is going. Try to get 2 million people to read his book, I bet you'll have very different numbers for that. Short and sweet is what non intellectual people can handle. If they see others liking it, well then it makes sense to them because they've found their echo chamber for the "oppressed".

The music is crap, and it seems to suggest that the idea behind this entire series is sappy, faux-virtuous, politically-correct, pandering, smarmy BS! This series is so sanctimonious and full of trite, simplistic little platitudes, I almost want to vomit!

And should have. I hope Lindsey is challenged to move beyond white guilt and become educated about the gravity of white complicity in systems of racist oppression. You don't have to own slaves to benefit from generational wealth gaps created in your favor by people who owned them. Her man said she doesn't have to do anything, "I just need to open up." Hmm ok. So that's y'all's relationship and if that works for y'all it works for y'all, but Lindsey is still benefiting from being a white woman in America.

@3000 lightyearsaway there's more complicity than just being the owner. There were the slave catchers, overseers, doctors who experimented on them, lawyers who upheld it, insurance agents who insured the slaves, white people who consumed the products made from cotton, etc etc etc. I mean this is off topic to this specific conversation on interracial dating. but white privilege or participation in racism is far beyond just owning slaves. Plus oppression did not end with slavery. Lastly, slavery technically can be said to still exist here in the US. Read the 13th amendment and the stipulation to slavery. Or maybe just watch the documentary 13th on Netflix

And I was replying to your comment which was very negative in response to the other woman’s comments. She is speaking about her experiences with BM. Why try to belittle her? THAT is part of the problem. I’m ok with dating outside of my race and seeking a non-BM if necessary. So don’t worry about me.
