      I did take the quiz. I really don't like the standard questions because I need to explain a lot of things. I do not run at all since I had both hips and a knee replaced. I don't know how tall I am in metric terms, still a gringo/yankee.... I would guess age comes in here some where. As a side note, I would like to see what your weekly work out routine is. It would make for a good/interesting video, and get the white board!

    Hello, it's okay, I'm Brazilian, I'm using subtitles because I don't know English, but I'm trying to follow your teachings.
    I started swimming 8 months ago and I started late, I'm 34 years old, I'm unmotivated by my lack of enthusiasm but watching your videos gave me hope for improvement.
    Thank you very much for helping us, I am very grateful and I wish you much success.

    Thanks for the tips! For ankle stretching, I don’t suggest suckling your foot to the side as you did in the seated stretch. For newbies I do suggest putting on a pair of sneakers, tucking your heels a bit toward each other, and then sitting on them, stretching back as able. This will give symmetry to the length of your ligaments, capsules, and tendons as you stretch. And the sneakers will make it more tolerable.

    A couple of points I differ on. For hand entry, in martial arts there is "knife hands" where the hand is aimed at penetrating, like a knife. If the hand is too loose, then it tends to cup slightly which is a higher drag position. Keep that thumb tucked in! Having your palm concaved slightly seems to increase the pull power. My guess is there are reasons for the paddle board and racing row boats having cupped oars. For kicking, if you have stiff ankles like me, I have to keep my ankle more rigid rather than relaxed. I haven't been able to sit with my butt on my heels for eons. I can tuck them in under my chair when I eat my breakfast though. Turning those toes in really helps add a few more degrees of toe point. If I keep my ankles loose, I have about a 30 degree flex the wrong way for my kick. Also, if you have floppy ankles, I have seen some that "follow through" too far to the point where they generate negative thrust. If you can get a video of yourself with hands on the wall while kicking, watch the bubble plumes to see where the water goes. This is a good indicator of how much thrust you are actually getting. I have seen some who can push bubble plumes down to the bottom of the 5 1/2 foot deep pool, but they really are not generating much thrust.

    • @siskatrainingsystems
      @siskatrainingsystems  Месяц назад +5

      Loose firmness is the key , just like in martial arts you have to know when to be quick and loose and then apply a firm hand at the right moment. I’m not implying in the video you have to keep your hand like a dead fish when entering the water I’m talking about taking hold of it and pulling the maximum amount of it to cause propulsion. This is a fine balance of being loose and firm at different moments of the stroke .. being rigid all the way through will cause a slip through and so will being loose ..as always I appreciate you

      After pondering this during my last swim or two, I think it is a Goldilocks and the 3 Bears thing. Not too hard, not too soft, but just right. I really do see a lot of "over relaxed" hands in the pool for freestyle.

    • @siskatrainingsystems
      @siskatrainingsystems  Месяц назад +1

      You can still generate propulsion with your legs , just remember to kick from the hip and keep your legs straight. Let’s the ankles be floppy . Imagine you are initiating a whip starting from the hip , you can do it!

    • @siskatrainingsystems

    GREAT info ... two suggestions:
    lower the backing track to less than 40% of the dialogue level.
    Stop saying "guys". many of the best swimmers aren't guys.
    try 'folks" or "team"

    • @siskatrainingsystems

      Thanks for the feedback, will definitely apply some of that ..when I say “guys” I’m referring to everyone women and men not just men …but maybe we can find a better term , that’s true

      guys in English refers to both men and women, every native English speaker is aware of this and uses it this way. It's a very odd suggestion. The lowering the backing track is not a bad idea though.
