- At some point after the completion of your project, your roofing contractor will want to collect the final payment.
But how should that process work? Each roofer will have a different method and process for how & when to collect the final payment.
If your project is part of an insurance claim, it may work differently than if it's not part of insurance. This video will explain how your roofer may want to collect the final payment once the work for an insurance claim is complete.
Homestead Roofing, Inc is a licensed and fully-insured roofing contractor in Colorado Springs, Colorado and serving homeowners in Colorado Springs, Fountain, Falcon, Peyton, Manitou Springs, and other surrounding communities.

Very useful info. I’ll have to watch this a couple more times so it sinks in. First time homeowner, first time dealing with a roof replacement. Single woman too so I feel anxious that I’ll be taken advantage of. Are we expected to tip the crew that works on replacing a roof?
It's not typical to tip the roofing crew, however, if they do a job that exceeds your expectations, and you want to do so, they definitely appreciate it. Make sure you have a good "feel" about the workers, though. You don't want to hand out cash to a bunch of strangers.
@@homesteadroofing thank you. Appreciate your response.
The word is Awesome! Thanks 👍🏻
Why would I ever make final payment to the roofer if the work is not completed as agreed? Dumb. There will always be things that need to be addressed towards the end of project. If roofer has all his money he has no incentive to complete the job.
I disagree. Any businessman understands that doing poor work will destroy his ability to get more work. The incentive to complete the job is the promise of future work based on his reputation.
My roofer they didn't done job If we refuse pay final payment they will.put lien in my house@@homesteadroofing
Is it okay for a roofing contractor to tell me that he can "roll" some line items off our claim to cover our deductible. We filed a claim due to a hailstorm and the claim has been approved for x amount of money to take care of our main roof dwelling, a detached shed roof, shed siding and deck staining. We'd like to wait and take care of the siding and deck staining later on in the year. Texas allows a year to take care of claim items. The roofer wants to take the siding $amount and deck $amt. and roll it into the deductible amount. However, we will still be paying him up front the out-of-pocket deductible amount. How will this work out on the back side of everything and is it legal?
There will be consequences for you if you do that. It could bite you in the future.
@@homesteadroofing Could you explain how?

Thank you for trying to explain the process to me. I absolutely cannot explain how all of this works. Am I understanding you correctly that since we have multiple items needing to be fixed, we should not pay the roofer the deductible but only the amount he charges us for his work? He will be the first contractor we work with since it is the most pressing issue. Don't we have to pay the deductible first before we can pay for anything else? It sounds like you are saying to pay the first contractor whatever their bill is and then pay the next contractor and so on until the last contractor and that will be the one we will pay the deductible to. Yes?
Also, if we are able to do some of the work ourselves is that ok as long as we have receipts showing what we paid or is it best to let a contractor do it? Thank you for responding to my questions.
So, I hear you saying if the job doesn't pass inspection, there's some room to use final payment as leverage. We'll, I found a spot that is at least one ft in length, but prob two ft, without ice and water. I saw it because its right at the bottom of the roof. Then there is no photo of the ice and water shield in the valley. So no verification. Didn't pass inspection. I have substantial completion in my contract. What would you say to this scenario? (I understand you don't want to way in directly)
I can't really comment because I don't know what your contract says, and I can't interpret someone else's contract. You should talk to an attorney.
what do you do if the previous home owner did not give me the roofing contract? How will I know who installed the roof? How do I approach the insurance company?
Sharon, that's a great question. In fact, I think I'll use that as a topic for my next video!
You can call the overseeing authority for building inspections and they can tell you when the roof permit was pulled and closed. They can also tell you the name of the contractor who pulled the permit. The overseeing authority may be your city or township or it may be your county. I would start by checking with your county building department. If they're not the ones who oversee permits where you live, they can tell you who to call. Hope that helps.
I file a claim n insurance approved 1 ACV check for $7k. I have to paid my deductible n the rest out of my pocket. Can I endorsed the check to the roofer ? Thanks 🙏
Yes, you can sign a check over to the roofer, as long as your mortgage company's name is not also on the check.
Does the recoverable depreciation check all amount come from the supplemental claim? or even I did not do supplemental claim, I just do all the description from claim report , I still can get the recoverable depreciation check.
Any supplements that are approved get included in the depreciation check.
Thank you so much to explain it.
