So FFXVI didn’t “need” a crafting system, but guess what, it *does* have one and it sucks. You can’t just ignore it when it constantly throws crafting materials and recipes at you. It’s always around, and it’s always uncompelling. If action games don’t need stories, then they should have no dialogue, no cutscenes, and just have you kill monsters as you move through the levels with no explanation as to why you’re doing so. After all, isn’t the combat all that matters? I’m sure that could make for a great game. However, when the game DOES have dialogue and cutscenes and a reason why the world is the way that it is and spends a huge portion of the game trying to make you care about characters and a narrative and a world AND those things are all mid, then how can you say it doesn’t matter? “Hey guys, here’s this entire half of the game we spent millions of dollars thinking about and implementing, but it doesn’t really matter, so just ignore it if it’s not your thing” - said literally no dev ever. Clearly they thought it was worth putting in the game, so you have to include it as part of your evaluation. Really strange take.
Censorship is a great proof oh why having Steam and the rest of the open marketplace on PC is so nice. If developers have to release PC only to keep their artistic vision intact then so be it. Eventually Sony will lose out on some potential $$$ and not having a hit game on their platform and might start treating us PS owners as adults.

I'm having a great time with the game. Is it my game of the year? Nah. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has that on lock this year. But it is a great action game, that oozes style.
Same here. Rebirth made an impact no game has made in years. I struggled to pick up a game since because I feared it would feel hollow. Played 5 hours of this last night. Its just stylish action and presentation through out with mesmerizing music. The story and characters are an afterthought for me. Except when they climb ladders 😂 But seriously after Rebirth any game trying to sell me on its characters and world would fall short. So this is the perfect alternative. Reminds me so much of playing Bayonetta 1 in the day and how that game felt the same way.
@@dusttodust915 I kind of liked them as a linear experience. I just quickly rushed to the main quest objectives. Imo the game falls apart if you try to explore and do side stuff. The waist lands and deserts look just interesting enough if you play it from point A to B. So that's all I can recommend. Generally this game plays best as a linear adventure anyway.
@@mikev8746 As it is right now yes it works perfectly for the most part. But I do like open world aspect of games. That is when they're done right and not doing the same thing and fighting the same enemies several dozen times over like in mad max.
@@dusttodust915 Oh for sure it gives a game a different feel when you know it's alive that way. But tbh this game isn't really that kind. I don't think I had this feeling with NieR either honestly. And Bayonetta another similar action game also isn't open world. So I get what you mean but yeah it works for what it's trying to do. Maybe the sequel does more but honestly I'm fine if they just double down on the things that are core to the experience. It's a substantial game because the levels are large. But I was kind of dissapointed still that there were only 3 large sections.
This game should win RUclipsr money maker of the year. If you had said Sweet Baby Inc, I would have completed my anti-woke gamer bingo. You do land good FF collab videos tho.
Stellar blade is something special ngl, when i played the game for the first time yesterday i legitimately played for 8 hours non stop without feeling bored, i actually had to force myself to stop playing
You state that in an action game story doesn't matter, as if it were fact. I guess that makes Nier Automata a bad game then, huh. Also, based on what I've experienced so far, this game is moslty Devil May Cry, with only a miniscule sprinkling of a couple of souls mechanics. It is very much not a souls-like.
Don't always knock these gotcha game studios who primarily focus on mobile games. Stellar Blade may be the first of many new South Korean AAA games. Their gotcha games rake in millions upon millions a year. It may turn out that the overall plan there is to use the money they've earned from their mobile games into AAA single player games. Look at Crimson Desert too for another one. It's being developed by Pearl Abyss and it looks like the true open world fantasy single player game we've wanted for decades. With the games in the gotcha services, who knows what kind of special goodies more South Korean studios are making. It's nice that the console market is starting to break in more there now.
An overrated(by the Sony brand) derivative game, that doesn't come even close to masterpieces like the Nier games. It will be forgotten in a few months(it would be in only one month, if not for the Sony brand).
I don't care to buy anymore games that care about what the public thinks about their game. If a game is good, I'll play it. If it sucks, I won't. I don't play games to be political. I play games to escape the real world.
Loving the game so far. Although stil pretty early in. Don't get the controversy around eves design. Yes she's eye catching but so what good looking girls do exist.
Parrying for the most part is perfectly fine especially when you get a skill and gear that helps it, but the dodging is where the prob is. The window for dodging is so damn small that perfect dodging feels impossible most of the time. 90% of the time I'm only doing it by complete accident by spamming it trying to get enough distance away to use healing or repositioning.
I played the game for a while but it is kinda generic so far and I actually feel the reviews were right on the money and the game itself is not that unique. Probably FF7 Rebirth and Elden Ring ruined what games I enjoy I guess but then I also prolly expected a lot more from a Nier and Sekiro inspired game but so far it is kinda generic. Even the action gameplay is good but I don't feel any challenge yet so far. It is starting to get stale a bit but I am barely hanging on for the cosmetics which look cool for now. Hopefully it gets better. 😅
Bruh a game doesnt need to have an award winning story to be good, people are just saying that the writing is bad, and I too agree. How they talk and sometimes the lines are really too on the nose and most of the time the deliveries are too robotic and bland, EVE could've been written alot better specially when she is our eyes to the world, the vistas and evironmetal lore are so perfect its just sad the writing is bad
As long as the gameplay is good or even great you can get away with a ok to good story. but it's also the same in reverse either one goes to bad the game will be in turn bad or horrible.
As a black person and someone who doesn't obsess over censorship like others do, the Hard R censor was completely pointless. I would've seen it as a funny coincidence to laugh at for a minute then continued on with my playthrough. Not too mad about it but its a bit pathetic they felt the need to change it. Other than that, I'm looking forward to playing the game. Gonna wait for it to drop in price to maybe around $50 before picking it up. That demo definitely sold me on the game but I'm still not fully on-board with the $70 price tags on games (unless its something like FF7 Rebirth which i just needed asap lol).

I always thought it was a reference to movie ratings. There are PG-13 movies and R rated movies that slightly miss the PG-13 rating, i.e. soft R. Some movies, like Saving Private Ryan or Deadpool are violent enough to truly earn their R rating.
It's not a matter of intention of the developers, but actually a test of reading comprehension (which, unfortunately, many seemed to have fail). Even if you don't see the difference in word font and style (signalling they are meant to be viewed separately), you still have to ignore the word "Shop".
They did confirm a Nikke crossover!? Sweet! I was hoping they would. I've been playing Nikke since it was released. I went all out for the Nier Automata Collab, I'll have to do the same with Eve.

I'm American and I've never heard "Hard R." I'll have to look it up. Anyway, The funny thing about some of the other "controversies" is that it's mostly a weird strawman from weird conservatives that are attacking a characature of people that are attacking the game's protag's look. In other words, "defending" something that wasn't being attacked. But since they think her look would be something that would be attacked by the version of society that exists in their mind, they make it seem like a "contrversy" when it's really just all in their head.
A quick google search shows the “hard r” issue was a non issue and was just a funny accidental repeat texture. I don’t think anyone really cared outside of those trying to find things to hate about the game. The term “hard r” is in reference to the n-word. Ending it with an “a” has a friendly/positive connotation amongst black people whereas ending it with the “er” denotes the original slur used by white people. The only people I hear complaining about this game seem chronically online.
It's not a strange take, it's a shill take.

Except when they climb ladders 😂
But seriously after Rebirth any game trying to sell me on its characters and world would fall short. So this is the perfect alternative. Reminds me so much of playing Bayonetta 1 in the day and how that game felt the same way.
I'm liking the game. but I do wish they put the same amount of detail effort into the waist lands and great desert. Cause they're pretty bland.
#freestellarblade They allow TLOUII, GOW, Cyberpunk, The witcher 3, baldurs gate 3 and many more were uncensored.
The censoring is a massive F you to everyone.
Hard R is a term for movies.
I definitely plan to play this at some point but with FF16 and Elden Ring DLCs I have to wait for a sale
I never dwelled on it too much, but I always wondered if you were a brotha. Also, that Nikke colab is gonna be crazy.
An overrated(by the Sony brand) derivative game, that doesn't come even close to masterpieces like the Nier games.
It will be forgotten in a few months(it would be in only one month, if not for the Sony brand).
Why does a 20 hour game take me 80? I'm 120 hours into my first playthrough of ff7 rebirth and i just got to cosmo canyon.
Just GIMME a PC version and I will be happy (and all the complaints can be modded easily).
Am really enjoying stellar blade glad to see new game plus is there day 1 I'll be playing this for while to do and get everything
Most of the hype, is because the game is attached with the Sony brand. 🙄
@@Ukaran No I actually bought after playing the demo but now it feels kinda like the game doesn't have anything more to it after the demo.

The censorship is annoying considering they said it was uncensored.

The hard R censorship was stupid.
What is the thing about "Hard" and "R"?
I tried the demo, and I could not deal with the camera shaking like that. It doesn't matter how beautiful it is if I can't play it.
I don't see that happening, I'd imagine that the devs that created neir would want a say in character development. Same with shiftup in map development. If anything they'd have to do a 50/50 on both ends plot/story included.
A hard R to me is an extremely gory R rated movie

I always thought it was a reference to movie ratings. There are PG-13 movies and R rated movies that slightly miss the PG-13 rating, i.e. soft R. Some movies, like Saving Private Ryan or Deadpool are violent enough to truly earn their R rating.
It's not a matter of intention of the developers, but actually a test of reading comprehension (which, unfortunately, many seemed to have fail).
Even if you don't see the difference in word font and style (signalling they are meant to be viewed separately), you still have to ignore the word "Shop".

All the discourse around this game on all sides has been cringe. Too hot or not, changing the minimal bit of clothing and the graffiti. Who cares man? None of that shit matters and anyone complaining is just sad.
Eve is an awesome MC super kind, always helps people in need. A true Angel, who is so humble she even denies it in the game. Shes elegant and feminine and graceful as hell. A female badass shouldn’t have to wanna step on people to be badass.

I hate the discourse surrounding this game that is so toxic. People have really taken this game into a real problem. I don't have a problem with sexy girls but I also feel very tired with how people have latched onto this game as some kind of weird cultural statement on gaming in general with east vs West.
It turns out though the game was as I was expecting. A fun game that aped nier automata without the heart but maybe had fun gameplay. it's not enough for me to buy at full price but I will enjoy it on a sale.
This discourse wouldn't be happening at all if the game was just left alone, uncensored and people would stop defending it being censored. Sony's forced changes brought this discourse onto themselves man, why did they even advertise it like they did in the first place?
@@soiralknarf that's not true. The game was being weirdly talked about online in multiple places long before this "controversy" yesterday with this sign patch thing or whatever creepy stuff people focus on on Twitter. To say otherwise would be disingenuous and more importantly untruthful. That's why the reviews didn't surprise me. In the end it was a fun game and all the noise online for clicks or outrage generation didnt affect the outcome to the real product.
@@MrInuhanyou123 Ever since this game was announced there were people crying about the games protagonist having revealing costumes and hating on it because of that. That is creepy and weird.
When this game got a day 1 patch censoring the gore and outfits to be less revealing the people who liked this game from the beginning got understandably pissed off. The official Stellar Blade account on twitter said the game would be uncensored in all regions a mere 5 days ago. The content on the disc is uncensored, but the day 1 patch censors it. Why should they be happy about Sony making creative changes to the game?
If people weren't bitching about the the character's sex appeal and Sony didn't force censorship for content that's already on the disc, there would be no controversy surrounding this game. Unless you mean something else you're going to have to be more specific than creepy, weird, and twitter. Not trying to be an asshole but I'm not being disingenuous or untruthful.
I don't doubt it's fun, I'm still waiting for my copy to arrive, but it's creative vision was comprimised. Culture war obsessed people wouldn't have anything to latch onto if people didn't try to censor this game.
@@soiralknarf Nah the creepy stuff was people treating this game like a middle finger to "woke game studios". Who literally cares? Gamers who are in it to play games don't. Taking a game that was not making any political statements and using it as a foil for some stupid bullshit is the problem.
Now that the devs have thought about it and dialed slightly back on some stuff these same gamers are having aneurisms because Eve is showing 1% less skin in some outfits. This is the most braindead shit I have ever seen as was the crap Kotaku posted about this game. Nothing was censored.

@@Mas-yo9qq Why not both? Play through the game prepatch and beat it. Enjoy your time getting to experience the 1.0 version that the director himself said was his vision for the games release. Then update it and get all the NG+ content. Once you're done you can uninstall/delete things and then go back to 1.0 in future playthroughs since you have a physical copy. 1.0 will always be an option for you! All hail Physical game supremacy! 🙌
That's some serious gaslighting, either that or you live under a rock and have not been paying attention.
The “censorship” is over silly things that don’t change the game at all outside of cosmetics, and if it really bothers this group so much, simply don’t download the day one patch.
There is a problem, the day one patch also censors some outfits.

Maybe ShiftUp decided they want younger players to also play it with the censorship?🤷♂
Doubtful. This is probably just coercion by Sony.
It is still rated as an "M" game (for Mature audiences over 17+ ). The ESRB rating was not changed, so there is really no sense censoring a game for adults. It would be kinda understandable if the game was rated "T" (for Teens).
In some countries such as where I am from, it is rated as "C" (for adults only/18+).
So, all this Stellar Blade censorship is nonsense. Even more if you take in consideration that other games with same "M" rating such as Cyberpunk 2077, The Last Of Us 2, Baldurs Gate 3 (the bear thing), and Mass Effect: Andromeda all have explicit content to an extent.
That logic only makes sense when the changes are enough to drop the ESRB rating, which wasn’t the case here.
