If you know your history the first conference realignment was to stop the automatic ascension of the MW into the AQ with the other 5 and require a ncaa revenue split with the AQ5. The power brokers within the SEC, B10 and PAC conspired to skim the cream off the top of the conference to ensure they would not meet their ascension criteria.
Watching this after the PAC 12 news, rip to your theory. Really great video though! Hoping the mountain west brings in some fierce members to help make your theory valid again in the coming years!
I’ve always thought of MW on a similar scale as the MAC, just based around the Rockies. Solid conference that can occasionally produce a team that shocks the P4.
MW teams have played well against PAC 12 schools in the 2010s. Regarding the MAC, I kinda view them as glorified FCS programs. Great conference stability though!
@@NeptuneGuy78 The MAC has always been like a little brother to the Big Ten. They overlap geographically, decent academics, (much lower tuition)… In the early 90’s CMU beat Mich St back-to-back years, and they’ve been able to produce some decent talent that would have been wasted on the bench at bigger schools.
Mountain West is the most reputable G5 with with solid program histories and state flagship universities. MAC has a lot of teams that’s nobody knows on the west coast.
Mountain Weat still needs to survive its next media renewal deal (current expires after 25/26 academic seasons. SDSU, CSU, UNLV, and Boise have already shown their interest to move out. Add the PAC2 now trying to survive if OSU/WSU do not land in the ACC or XII and the odds now seem against the MW surviving in its current state of members.
3 things can happen, 1 the mountain doesn't get poached and adds G5 teams; Fresno State Boise Air Force Sdsu Colorado State UNLV San jose Nevada Wyoming Hawaii Utah State New mexico MEMPHIS UTSA NORTH TEXAS TULSA Scenario #2 is the the pac takes the best of the mw along with some with good markets and some g5 teams Oregon State Wazzu Fresno State - Central Valley market Boise SDSU - for san diego market UNLV - for Las vegas market Air Force Colorado State Maybe even Wyoming and hawaii. 3rd scenario is the acc falls apart and the same thing happens with the pac grabbing Sdsu Fresno Boise Colorado st Air force UNLV and also SMU Cal Stanford
I don't see any way in todays environment that a new Power conference could ever be created. The amount of money needed per team to compete at the P4 level is unobtainable The best players and coaches will go to the P4 leaving all G5 and re-invented MW or Pac conferences with the next level of competitive players.
The PAC-12 sends its regards

@@AN5WER321 True, but perhaps that’s a reflection of public schools.
Mountain West is a really good basketball conference
Mwc was a good basketball conference. Zags to the PAC
Your the last man standing on the hill you are the king 👑

Well done
I think a lot of dominos would have to fall for this to happen. But I don’t know if I see all of those dominos falling the right ways.
The AAC in my opinion is still the best group of 5 conference. The numbers don't lie.
This aged well
Thats not how you say Oregon.
He’s probably from the east coast.
That conference would be poach bate and would like likely lose members as soon as the TV contract changed.
Forgot to mention the big 12
It’s or-again bro
Came to say the same thing

Most likely, but it’s still fun to imagine.
IVE FOUND MY PPL
Just lost 4 huge members lol
This didn't age wel...
