    When doing the wheels, he basically took the dirt from the tire, which he scrubbed first, and then brushed it on to the rim to scratch the hell out of it. I think I'll stick to the Gary Dean Method of using multiple microfiber towel wash mediums and never introduce a dirty sponge back to clean solution.

  • @chasehan130
    @chasehan130 7 лет назад +1

    Interesting how different a take the Optimum guys have on just about every aspect of washing and detailing in general. My obsession began with very standard ways of washing, the way most everyone does it. i.e. soap, water, a soft wash pad, and pressurized water. All of my intuition tells me that these guys are just marketing a product and that a wipe on wipe off wash doesn't work and is in fact harmful to the paint. The other half of me is very intrigued that technology has made such a leap that these once banished methods of washing are actually surpassing the common methods now. Worried that trying these products will officially make me a convert even though all the methods are so beyond foreign to me.

    • @danlc95

      Once I started with rinseless washes, I never looked back. Last time I used soap was in 2017. I just gave the rest of the gallon away to a client.
      Growing so we had extremely hard water, so I never enjoyed the wash process.

    • @chromo48
      @chromo48 2 года назад

      @@danlc95 I'm considering entirely rinseless with steam assist as the cornerstone of my business -- basically whatever I can do to drastically cut down on chemical and water usage. Have you had to do a lot of 'selling' or explaining to customers about your method? I feel like that could go either way.

    I'm new to car detailing so just learning about ONR and how it'd be great for me as my garage doesn't have running water. I use a bucket/gritt guard and Rag Company Cyclone Mitt. Just watched a video by www.dallaspaintcorrection.com and he says ONR doesn't release the oily/greasy contaminants your car is exposed to when you put the big red sponge/mitt or whatever back into the same bucket as your ONR. Oils etc will float on the surface of your ONR bucket which you would be reapplying to other parts of your car if you continued with just one sponge/mitt. This seems logical so would it be preferable instead to use multiple microfibre cloths with the one ONR bucket solution and just put them to one side as they get dirty rather than trying to rinse one sponge/mitt? Your ONR would always be fresh in the bucket then and no oil slick on the top.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  5 лет назад

      I'd listen to what Yvan says. He actually knows what he is talking about.

    • @Martyn2160
      @Martyn2160 5 лет назад +1

      Ok but in his video tutorial Yvan returns the sponge into the bucket with the ONR and that’s the issue - there will be oily residue from the car floating on the water in his ONR bucket. Checkout the 2017 Garry Dean wash method which is exactly what I’m talking about except using ONR.

    • @ObsessedGarage
      @ObsessedGarage  5 лет назад +1

      Who the heck has oil their paint? I don't.

    • @Martyn2160
      @Martyn2160 5 лет назад +1

      Maybe you don’t drive in the rain but I do. The oil comes from being out in the rain where the cars are contaminated by oil from puddles and other vehicles. Watch the video from Dallas Paint Correction. You’ve seen oil in puddles and on the road haven’t you? So when your car goes through them why do you think it’s not splashed on your car?
      www.carwashcountry.com/bad-to-wash-wash-car-in-the-rain-before-or-after/ says
      ‘Just keep this in mind before speeding through a puddle, since whatever salt, oil, dirt, or grease is on the road will soon be all over your car when everything dries.’

    • @LacroixCruiser
      @LacroixCruiser 4 года назад

      Mats Airey the problem isn’t the oil on the paint, it’s the videos your watching. Unfortunately Mr Bley isn’t exactly scientific in his approach, he’s only working to sell his products.

    Really wish they didn’t recently reformulate ONR with protection added in. They already had ONR Wash & Wax with protection. Really a turn off to the product as a maintenance cleaner, since anyone who uses it more than likely already has products they use to protect their cars. Now they’ve made you add a step of IPA wipedown to remove whatever ONR leaves behind.
    Funny at 22:20 Y’Van gloats about ONR not leaving anything behind and then they go ahead make it leave something behind years later.

DA’s weren’t a thing (heavy ass Milwaukee 7” antenna removing rotaries were though!). I’ve done some downright disrespectful stuff to some paint jobs in the name of correction. The modern clear coat is waaaay tougher than most folks realize. I agree with the theory of least aggressive methods to achieve results, but coming up when I did with who I did; I’m not scared to bang on some paint with a wool padded rotary or razor blade. @9:12 - have there been any health related studies of how ONR interacts with human skin tissue? I always use gloves but every video I see with this chap in it, he's just dipping his bare hands into that solution. Just curious.

    Does it mean that you can coat the car after using only onr if it leaves no residue?

    How long typically would I use a 4-5 gal bucket of solution with a grit guard? More than one wash or should I discard and prepare new solution for each wash?

      You could use it for more that one as long as you don't revisit the bucket.

    I’ve watched the videos where you attended the training. How do the products perform in the detailing world ? How often do you find yourself having to use a pressure washer ? I am new to this and just trying to look at the different products and methods

      These product are pretty great for production level detailing and some of them are best in class.

    I use a lot of Optimum products, but it seems so counter intuitive to not only use a sponge, but he doesn't even flip the sponge over or anything. Seems like it would scratch the paint every time. I'm really interested in that "clay" towel. Great informative video!

    "Their stuff doesn't show up very much in forums, in Facebook, and other detailing spots." Umm, yeah it does. All of Optimums product do. They're all popular. They're all talked about at fairly great length. It shows up everywhere. All that comment does is present to people the drastic limits of your scope. Just because you don't have visibility into that doesn't mean everyone else doesn't as well.

      @ObsessedGarage  7 лет назад +4

      Ah...yes. You're another one of those that listens to my every word and attempts to catch me slipping. What I was saying is that it seems the marketing engines of the big names have clouded Optimum's name when comparing to CarPro, Gyeon, Adam's, CG, Griot's, or god forbid... marketing like Ceramic Pro. Also, none of the big name detailers that I follow use the products (Kevin Brown, Jason Rose, Larry Kosilla, Mike Phillips, Todd Cooperider). That doesn't mean they aren't selling products. They just aren't on the tip of everyone's tongue. Optimum products are popular with that few that use them. In my experience, usually production heavy detailers or those that have been using the brand a long time and have stuck with them. I was using Opti-Coat original on my wheels 10 years ago, have had 2.0 in my cabinet until recently when I discovered it hardened from age. I'm not sure why, but I'd lost interest. I've had a bottle of ONR about as long. Does that make my "scope" big enough for you? I have bought and tried and have had more training than a large percentage of professional detailers. If I quit my job and started doing it for a living, would what I have to say valid in your eyes? I'd be willing to bet we could find a half a dozen product lines that you haven't experienced that I could share some information about and vice versa. I'm not in competition with you. If you gave that up, maybe we could be friends.

    • @roguegeek
      @roguegeek 7 лет назад +1

      Obsessed Garage I'm positive you're correct in that there are lines out there I have zero experience with and that you could provide valuable information into. There is a reason I'm subscribed to this and many other channels, after all. I definitely don't know everything, but that also doesn't mean everyone else doesn't know it either. The issue here is attempting to speak for everyone with what was, frankly, a rather tone deaf and seemingly arrogant comment. Maybe that wasn't your intention, but that's it came off and it's solidifying even more, IMO, if you're just going to name drop prominent industry experts that we all know. You are obviously knowledgeable with some of the content you cover, but no one will listen if you have a rotten attitude about it. It's a much more systemic issue as well. OG and their members already have a particular stigma in other industry circle and that sucks because we should all be on the same team here. But, like any group, they are usually a reflection of their leadership and if a change is ever to occur, it always starts from the top.
