I love these short stories, and this particular reader is wonderful. A job very well done!

Wertenbaker was a talented writer but gave up science fiction after 1930. I guess you couldn't make a living in SF back then. Later in life he joined NASA and wrote a history of space medicine.

Why isn't there a citation for the reader? he really got into the part of the protagonist. I wonder what else he has recorded.

even if you don't like the story.... the reader gets into your skin. should receive a noble prize for that!

what a depressing story, reminds me of a bernie sanders youtube video about a man who kept on getting college degrees only to be left 100k+ student loan w/c he whines about

So, he noticed that the guinea pig was cold, and loveless, with no emotions except for ....ah, whatever.

A very interesting writer who used internal psychological dialog in a few novel sci-fi stories. He was also an aerospace engineer. great narration

Please know I LIKE this "what if" story, but my only problem with it is if the future folk were so intelligent why didn't they find either a way to engineer their climate to their liking or a way off the planet.

this story really blew me away. such wonderful imagery and the narrator is one of the best i've heard in a long, long time. thank you for uploading this. its such a shame that it only has a couple of hundred views, or listens if you will.
