@@saracummings9133 man I’m born raised and still live in Chicago and they speak better English in Corpus Christi TexAs a couple hours from the border lol.
What if I'm using cannons filled with stones to wash the pavement at a park which is full of fortune tellers from a building which allows people to see me from the sidewalk while spray painting?
You really have to wonder. Most (maybe all) laws are written to prevent people from doing what they otherwise would want to do. (I want to park wherever I feel like it - law says I can't. I want to beat up this guy who annoys me - law says I can't.) You don't need a law to stop people from standing on the corner handing out $100 bills, because nobody ever wanted to do that. So at some point, somebody wanted to go fishing while riding a giraffe and Chicago's lawmakers didn't want that to happen so they made a law to stop him. It makes you wonder what was really going on.. . . .
this is the most silly laws i ever see(in Indonesian), because the laws is too directed to the ordinary people, meanwhile the government who doing a crime only get an easy sentenced. this is the stupid law i'm talking about 1. let animal farm roaming in someone yard/garden can be sentenced $10M, 2. parent unaccidentally shows contraception things in front of children can be sentenced $1M 3. having a sex outside of marriage can be sentenced 4. gathering buffalo can be sentenced 5. a girl stay with the opposite sex to save money can be sentenced 6. deliberately aborting the womb, including for rape victim can be sentenced to jail 7. a woman who work over night and get lost be considered as homeless can be sentenced $1M
I discovered Rob Scallon about a month ago and now, I randomly watch that video whit stupid old England's law. Decided to go check for more on RUclips and bam, Rob Scallon is here
Damn ! I loved Rob Scallon's channel before I knew and loved YOU! I think Rob beefed-up a few pounds since he started his channel with wonderful guitar and skate board and all sorts of other video adventures. Love you both !!
Some of these laws are actually reasonable, like having an unsecured object on a window sill or railing, as they could fall on unsuspecting passersby, possibly getting you a lawsuit, or course, arrested.
Hey, it's the WINDY city, it makes perfect sense to secure anything on window sills! Heck, Chicago winds can pick up a chair on your balcony and throw it God knows where.
I'd love to see a video about the train station that used to be where Ogilvie is now. I've only seen one or two historic photos, but what I've seen of it was super impressive.
Me and My roomate are Chicago natives and love this amazing city. We want to create content like you. We would like to collab and know how you been learning so much since you've been here for only 2 years. Wow props to you my friend. #LoveChicago
most of them make sense. still. I thought I would hear laws like "playing the harmonica during the times of 6am to 12nn is illegal" or "buying a bag of apples on a wednesday is forbidden" those laws exists in some states.
In PA: Any motorist driving along a country road at night must stop every mile and send up a rocket signal, wait 10 minutes for the road to be cleared of livestock, and continue.
I know this was made 2 years ago but the throwing stone law is actually reasonable as it can be quite dangerous if it hit someone not complaining just saying apart from that cool vid
In the late 1960s in Northern Virginia, while a neighbor was researching laws to deal with rock concerts being held in our sub division across our street at a swimming pool he came across an old Virginia law that is still on the books. All railroad crossing gates must be painted black and white because those are the colors best seen by horses. In the early 70's, the railroad changed their gates to black and orange to be seen easier by humans. The state made them change back to black and white as they still are.
The best one I know is in Toronto Canada. You can't drag a dead horse on Yonge St on a Sunday. You could just wait until Monday or use another street around the block... Lol
I see about 100 skateboarders a day on the sidewalk downtown, and that's no exaggeration. They go right past cops, who do nothing despite them behaving recklessly. But if someone has the wrong vegetation, they get pinched. What a joke.
What about the disturbing literature law I was treated with jail time when I was in high school. I'm glad I'm out. I wish my mental scar would heal. I can finally finish my book...
Some of those laws were not stupid, it is actually dangerous to leave anything on a window if you cannot ensure that is not going to fall, it can actually fall down and kill or injure somebody depending on how tall the building is. The same goes for skating and washing the pavement (it can cause someone to slip and get hurt) there have been instances where that happens particularly with elderly people and that's why they established that in the hours with more pedestrians of the day it will be illegal to wash it
Danny Oviedo Alem. I think the reason you aren’t allowed to wash the pavement is because the water would almost instantly evaporate because of the heat. It actually is really a waste of the scarce drinkable water available in the warm months in Chicago. So it’s just a law to prevent waste of water.
The second and third actually make sense. The second can cause large crowd and cause disruption and the third can actually hurt or kill people if not followed the law🤷🏻♀️
The objects on a window sill law is not silly at all. If the building is tall enough and an object like a potted plant falls it can kill someone or seriously hurt them.
Typing this comment from jail.
Thanks for having me along Jack!
Rob Scallon did you guys shoot the end of the video near Chicago Fret Works? The area looks familiar...

It's against the law now to walk in an intersection while looking at a smartphone. I see that one broken every 2 seconds.

Last one makes sense, actually. My city has a similar rule and it's meant to conserve water, since much of it will evaporate during hot days.
Makes no sense at all if you have unlimited access like in almost every 1rd world country.
Took a trip to Chicago with my band classmates, and I really enjoy learning more about Chicago. I love these videos!
