- I had an F7E1 error code. This was the part I needed to replace, Hub Part # W10528947. You can also see the part number on the package.

Your videos helped me diagnose and fix my washing machine. I had to replace the wash plate(agitator)which was $130 vs the drive hub but it's still cheaper than replacing the machine. Thank you for your help. God bless.
Went to give this a try after a new Actuator didn't fix the error code and issue but when I got the stripped hub off, noticed a lot of dirt, grime, and corrosion on the shaft it connects to. The teeth on the bottom half of that shaft were in bad shape. Not close to as good of condition as yours. A new gearbox and shaft is over $300 on a $600 washer.
Worth a try, but on an older washer (8 or 9 years) with heavy usage, not worth buying a new gearbox.
I've learned that all these top load washers are exactly the same under the hood, Maytag, Kenmore, etc all made by whirlpool. You pay extra for the control panel, glass tops, etc.
Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much for this video! My washer was making a grinding noise while agitating and the laundry would be soaking wet when complete. This fixed my problem! Well done!
Thank you so much for making this video! Now I can spend a few bucks instead of buying a new washer or paying someone to fix this. Thank you!
Thank you so much!!! Your videos helped me figure out how to fix my washer and saved me from buying a new one!
Thanks for this!! You saved my washer with this video! Just wanted to mention that I have this exact same washer and the size socket I needed to remove the bolt was 7/16th, not 11/16 as mentioned in the video.
You are absolutely correct, I re-checked the size and it is 7/16, thanks for your attention on the matter. Have a good day, and thanks for your help.
I just put a 11mm socket on it and it seems to be the better fit. Anyway hope that helps someone, thanks for watching my video.
Thank you so much for making this video! Now I can spend a few bucks instead of buying a new washer or paying someone to fix this. Thank you and God Bless!
Thanks for the video. I fixed my Kenmore after watching. Bought a new drive hub, and reset the machine, and VOILA. it works great. The camera work made it so much easier to see, Thanks Again, have a good one.
You are welcome, have a wonderful day!
Thank you for helping out and answering the other questions. I greatly appreciate it, have a good day.
Great camera work and real-life/real-time narrative Mr FreeInDeed! Very informative.
Thank you kindly! Have a good day!
I have the same washer model, and this is exactly what happened to mine. Thank you for the video.
You're welcome! Thanks for Watching! Have a good day!
Liked and subscribed. You saved me hundreds in a repair bill. Thanks for the great video!
You sir are saving people headaches and mullah. Thanks so much!
You are most welcome, thanks for watching.
You are an incredible help. Had a service guy diagnose my machine, he said it was the actuator. When I got the part and replaced it, I still had a broken machine lol. I found the hub for like $20 at a local appliance part shop.
It was $35 here in Levittown, PA
I made the same mistake on my machine. I assumed it was the actuator and now I have a spare actuator that I will probably never need :(
Thank you so much for this video, it was a relief that this was all it was. I went ahead and ordered the upgraded version. Thank you!
You are welcome! Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for this video. It helped me fix my machine and saved us $150 repair bill.
Glad it helped, thank you for the positive feedback.
thank you for this. I watched a few videos on the diagnostics and error codes and stuff but they never really describe specific issues. Could replace 6 different things that are popping the same fault code before you get it right. Saved me a lot of time and money.
It is GREAT you showed that you dropped the screw! I WOULD DO THAT! I am having a similar ISSUE! WHAT A PAIN IN THE BUTT!
Hopefully everything is going good for you on your project. Thank you for watching my video.
Wash plateS are very hard to remove, tried for days it would not budge, Finally used angle grinder to cut it off. Had to cut the metal to remove it from the drive shaft. New wash plate ordered. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MAYTAG!
It's only 3 years old and haS broken 3 times!!! MAYTAG REPAIR MAN BUSIEST MAN IN TOWN!
Thank you! You made my job so easy! BTW, putting the hub on before putting the drum back n is definitely best.
Thank you for this video. The hub was exactly what was wrong with my washer and you saved me hundreds of dollars. Seems like a poor design to make that hub out of plastic knowing it will fail within 5 years. I did see one that was made of metal, perhaps an upscale version of the Whirlpool? Maybe Maytag or Kitchen Aid?
You're welcome! Thanks for watching and have a good day.
Cool just what I needed thanks
I also had similar code. Mine was making a whirling noise during agitation. What I found was the sure way to test for a bad hub that is stripped. If you spin the agitator and the drum doesn’t move with it, either the hub is stripped or the agitator threads are stripped. They both should move. Another test I did was to take the hub off and go to diagnostic mode and see if sound is gone. If so it is the hub. $15 part so you can keep an extra on hand.
Very helpful! Thank you very much!
Glad it was helpful!
I really wish I would have found your video before attempting to replace this. The other video I watched, the plastic retaining clip, slid out with ease. So of course, when it didn't slide out so easily I started applying more force, which broke the plastic clip in the middle of the "C". Not sure how I'm going to get it out now. If I'd watched your video first I would have gone with more finesse and less force.
Great video. This saved me a lot of time.
Glad it helped! Thank you for watching.
Great informative video thanks!! I just can't understand why they use plastic gears, it's bound to strip sooner or later.
If they did not use plastic, it would ruin the motor. They are meant to strip when bound up. Loose change caused mine to deteriorate, and the part is very inexpensive, compared to a motor, or drive.
GOD BLESS YOU 🏆🔧🔨
Thank You, God Bless You Also. Keep spreading the word of Jesus and have a good day.
So glad I found this video! Quick tip: You can save yourself some time - and tape - by laying a rolled up towel around the bottom of the tub to cover the holes under the wash plate and catch any dropped screws.
Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
I replaced the hub but after I put everything back together and I made sure it was tight, it still spins on its own like it's not connected to it. What does that mean?
Could this part be also why my basket and impeller have play? My washing machine (exact model as one in video) starts shaking violently when it’s in spin cycle even though the clothes are balanced. Thanks
I had the same issue. I used a ratchet strap without the ratchet. Fed in there great and after some massive jerking for 20 min it came right off. Yes this was my issue!
I have the exact same model that’s doing this now along with a squealing noise when you turn the tub by hand. Hoping replacing hub fixes it or may have bearing gone bad too
Can you turn the actuator while holding the tub from spinning? If so, the hub is bad.
I have a slightly different model and when took it apart there wasn't a hub. Safe to assume it never had one? My model is wtw7000dw0
What should I do when I removed the wash plate it broke. Causing the middle piece to stay attached.
When removing and installing screws I suggest using a magnetic tip in your screw gun or magnetic screwdriver.
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful to me.
But, I think you missed an rubber washer between the hub, and the shaft. It would have sat in the area that failed, (causing the drum to drop). Due to the way yours failed, I'm sure its long gone. It's a shame they don't seem to include that with the new hub.
I will have to look into that, thanks for the help.
How did you pull the basket when you dropped the screw. I did the same thing lol
How did you get the agitator off?? Like yours mine wont budge!
Replacing this part stopped my machine from wobbling. I thought it was the suspension rods but they were fine. My hub was so worn it was loose and wobbly.
Have a random question, my clothes seem a little wetter when the final rinse cycle. Could it probably be the problem with my washer
Its possible, when my Basket Hub started to break down that is when I noticed my clothes being more wet. Once the Basket Hub teeth start to wear and slip the basket stops turning as good on the spin cycle causing the clothes to be wetter after the wash is finished. There is also the Drive Belt and Washer Clutch and hopefully not the Gear Case that could be a cause. I have other videos on my channel you may want to look at. Here are some links.

There are other ones on my channel also for that washing machine, they are other videos I made while trying to figure out how to fix my machine. Hope this helps have a good day.
Always clean surfaces first, then screw in screws by hand with equal turns and torque.
Is there teeth on the wash basket too or is the wash basket I D Smooth or does it have grooves or teeth. You didn't show us the bottom of wash basket when you took it out. Just want to know if I need to buy a new wash basket too.
I honestly didn't think to check the I.D. of the wash basket for teeth, if I remember right it was made of a hard rubber compound. So after replacing just the Basket Hub the washer has been working for almost a year. Thanks for watching my video and for the question. Have a nice day.
Would this issue cause the machine to shake real bad and move out of position?!
Hi by chance where did you order the hub from for this model
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I ordered mine on Amazon. Have a great Day.
Check the splines in the agitator too, they will strip!
Where to order the hub?
I'd like to know what you did to get the agitator out
I used a lot of force jerking it back and forth. I figured if I broke it and had to buy a new one at least it would still be less expensive than buying a new machine. It was pretty much useless at that time because of the HUB anyway. Some people ended up breaking their agitator trying to get them out of this machine.
How old was the washer when doing this video? Thanks
I believe it was about 4 1/2 to 5 years old when I had to replace the hub. Have a good day.
What was the problem with the machine that made you diagnose this issue, because there isn’t any info in the title or description.
Mine isn’t spinning.
Oh yes, I didn't word it that way, Mine isn't spinning. In my title and description I was targeting the error code I was receiving, so I wrote that it fixed my F7E1 error code. It was the F7E1 error code I was getting from a video I made before this one "Whirlpool WTW5000DW0 Washing Machine how to check codes" ruclips.net/video/uZla37vqQ3Q/видео.html
Thanks for the other wording ideas, as it may help me connect to my viewers better in the future. Have a Blessed Day.
@@freeindeed9508 I repaired my inlaws washer yesterday; what a bitch removing the plastic agitator. I nearly thought I was going to pull the tub out with the amount of force I was using on it. WOW, once that was out, eazy peasy. Thanks for the video.
Could this be the reason mine is shaking violently, that part is definitely loose.
Shaking violently sounds more like your washer is not level or the clothes inside your machine are not dispersed evenly.
Replacing this will fix the bowl from whobbling real hard and bamging the sides going thru a spin cycle?
The wobbling problem will happen on a brand new machine if your clothes are put in off balance, for example, more clothes on one side of the machine than the other. Or too many clothes in one load may cause that problem. Otherwise, you could look into your basket suspension to possibly help with the problem.
Hope this helps, have a good rest of your day.
Thanks for this video, I think this is what's wrong with ours so I ordered the hub kit. But how on earth did you get the wash plate off? Ours won't budge.
It took me between 30 min. to an HOUR just to get my wash plate off it was quiet difficult. I grabbed the louvers on the wash plate and violently jerked it back and forth to loosen things up. I then took a flat head screwdriver and started to pry the wash plate out from the outside edges and it finally came loose. It was frustrating and I was full and ready to buy extra parts in case I broke something else. Maybe try some WD40 where you take the bolt out and tap around the center of the wash plate with a hammer to loosen things up I didn't try that one with mine. It will eventually come loose, I have heard that other people had to break their wash plate to get them out. Good Luck
I'm having a hell of a time trying to get mine out...I've done just about everything you've listed...idk what else to do 😩
Dman manufacturer. Design is freaking stupid. I'm having a hard time with mine. I gave up after an hour, went back it again another hour, still, that darn thing wont budge.
How exactly did you get the wash plate off? I'm having the same issue, but I CANNOT get the wash plate off to see what the condition is underneath. HELP!!!

I used some PB blaster, gave it 30 min to penetrate and then put the main bolt back in half way and then tapped with a rubber mallet. I did the tap every 5 minutes for about 30 minutes more. The I put 2 coat hanger hooks under the lip of the plate and worked my way around with slight prying. A a few more light taps on the bolt and some very light taps to the plate flanges and then it started to come up. I then used to coat hanger hooks to lift it off. Hope that helps.
I saw on another video the guy used a pair of T-handle tools with hooks on the end. He got them from Harbor Freight. Hooked them in the slots and after a few tugs it popped off.
I have tried everything and still won't come off. Tried screws an nothing I am at a loss.
@@kimh4682 hello Im having to do this exact fix and was looking at comments.. a cordless drill that has the “ impact “ feature will do the job. . Maybe you can borrow or rent one.
You prolly have fixed by now but if not try researching this method. Anywho just trying to help
Not sure if you know or not, but could a bad hub cause the washplate to go up snd down rapidly while agitating sometimes?
Not sure, If the teeth on the hub are just starting to strip, I guess it could cause the washplate to hop around. It would make sense that every time it skipped a tooth it could cause that problem. Hope all goes well on your quest to troubleshoot your machine.
Or maybe your wash plate bolt just needs to be tightened, Good luck
@@freeindeed9508 I replaced the hub but not with a new one.
My son thinks it is the splutch. I just don’t see that.
Another thing, I don’t know what cycle I stopped it in, but I can spin the wash plate by hand without the tub moving.
Could that be because my son removed the splutch?
Do you work on appliances much?
I have worked on many but need to learn more about these electronic ones with the different drive mechanism and such.
Exact same thing happened to mine. Only problem is when I removed wash plate the nut or spline stayed in tacked. So I didn’t realize it because old hub didn’t slide off like it should.
Me too. I'm stuck at this point right now. I'm like how do I take this off.
@@jaguar515 might want to use some kroil or some heavy penetrant oil. Then a 3 jaw pulley. That’s how mine came off finally.
@@robertmunguia250 awesome thanks for the tip! Will have to try something like that. Earlier this year I had to take a hub off of a blower motor. Why does this keep happening to me? 😫
How did you open the bottom to get the screw out?
By removing the basket. (Whirlpool WTW5000DW0 Basket Removal) Here is the link. ruclips.net/video/EHpTBU5JGRk/видео.html
@@freeindeed9508 I put tape around it before starting, good tip, lol
I can not get the retaining clip in. Any advice?
Mainly, make sure the hub is seated all the way on the metal post. You may have to wiggle the basket and hub around a bit to make sure it is seated all the way on, or maybe lift and push down a bit also. (Not On the video the following happened) The first few times I tried to put the new retaining clip on it would pop off before going all the way on that was with using the hammer. If it is lined up correctly, you have to get the retaining clip to a certain point before it starts to grab the post and seat all the way on. I think I may have kept a little pressure on top of the retaining clip as I hammered it on the first time I did it. This video doesn't show the hours of frustration and problems I had, just to keep it short. Don't give up step away when frustrated. Best of luck
Let me say this..you have made amazing videos on this and basket but detailed instructions about agitator wasn't found. From my experience this week. This metal shift and the aluminum piece in agitator is seriously poor design by manufacturer. Putting mine back together I put anti seize on shift. Due to the fact I had to cut my aluminum off after breaking old agitator
I didn't even know that was a thing, I will look into getting some of that. It makes me wonder if they ever applied any at the factory? Thanks for the advise. Have a good day.
Do you know the part number for that?
The HUB Part # W10528947 that is the part number I needed for my model of washer WTW5000DW0. Hope all goes well. Good Luck
Great video and info.....any idea on how to get the bolt off as mine seems to be stuck and rusted. Its difficult to hold the wash plate while loosening the bolt at the same time, any input would be appreciated. God bless!
Try a closed end wrench and tap it with a hammer. Someone probably needs to hold the drum for you, and it is slow at first, but works in a bit. Hope this helps.
Penetrating oil helps because the shaft is usually rusty.
I had to use an impact to get mine loose.
I put an 11mm socket on mine with the rachet and banged it with a hammer loose
I have this same washer were can I get parts
You can try the Whirlpool website, I got some of my parts from Amazon and other repair websites that I currently don't remember the name of. Good luck on finding your parts.
@FreeInDeed Thanks I appreciate your time
What was the part
#? Or how can i look it up??
It should be in the description of the video.
So I guess you don’t need to remove the drum to do this right?
Nope, all from inside the clothing area.
Can you link the one you bought off amazon please?
Best to take out old one, and look at part number on the part. Or at least have it as a reference, because they vary by machine. What is your machine brand, and I can look up the part for you?

I don't know why this isn't the first search result. Let's diagnose all the stuff that's less likely to break first. A pair of large 3/8 shaft screwdrivers remove the clip nicely. Ordered my part, tomorrow is the reinstall. On to the washer tub next, looks like I might even gain $1 by cleaning the tub out.

Thank you for watching.
Use 2 pairs of vice scripts n yank it hard
I appreciated the video but this washing machine is probably the worst. I had to replace the agitator plate twice. The washing machine is now in the dump.
We have had this piece of junk for a week. It is perfectly level, And it jumps all around. I have never seen so many bad reviews on any machine period. Absolute Garbage.
Throw that junk away
Ndi naman totooo
A plastic hub? Man that’s a bad design. They should’ve made it out of metal or something. I don’t like the new Whirlpool washers. And the wash plate gets like rusted on to the driveshaft which is why it is so hard to get off. Nothing but cheap engineering. I really hope Whirlpool redesigned the plastic hub and started using a metal one. Because plastic holding the whole tub is not a good design.
I had the same issue. I used a ratchet strap without the ratchet. Fed in there great and after some massive jerking for 20 min it came right off. Yes this was my issue!
