  • Caught my first lingcod from the pier this week. I was also able to get my first halibut of 2018 and snagged up a bunch of rock fish as that bite heated up through out the week. Rig used was a high/low drop shot with size 3/0 gamagatsu baitholder hooks and 30 lbs braid. Baited with Berkleygulp swimming mullet and red Berkleygulp sandworms. Thanks for watching!!

Cabezon. You were right on your first instinct. But dude, you're one of the few people's videos who I watch all the way through. Keep it up man. Giving me ideas for some San Francisco fishing videos too. Hope to run into you again out there.

I don't know if the piers are still there but near Mission Rock ( Don't know if it's still there) during the summer, if you go out on those piers with heavy tackle and a bucket of large live shiners, there is a good chance of catching a 25lbs plus Striper.
P.S. It has to be at night and during the right tide. Big Stripers patrol those pillings at night. I don't know if anybody still does that type of fishing anymore.
There also was an old PG&E plant at the end of 23rd St, east of 3rd that you could get into some good Stripers at night

Nice Cabby. I never caught a Cabby from my pier fishing days.

First one for me as well. I didn't think you could catch them from piers or inside the bay

Definitely a cabezon. You know all those spots are better at night for rockfish. Especially under lights. Big ones come out. Also if you get a lot of big jacksmelt following you could catch them on the smallest kastmaster on an ultralight spinning setup. It’s pretty fun. Better than the sibiki and bobber technique.

I have a one ounce kastmaster I tried throwing out to them. They chased it again but would never commit.. Little non committers.. I'll try going lighter next time. Thanks!

1oz is too big, gotta use the smallest one. I think it’s 1/12 oz. You’ll need a trout rod to throw it. It’s super fun when the smelt are schooled up.

I would catch jacksmelt on a 4'8" rod with a 1000 Shimano and kill them haha

I used a piece of anchovie on a bobber. It was about 6' down in the water.

How did you access pier 28 public shore is there a way I can enter?

If you wanna catch jacksmelt you gotta get the rig the old cantonese speaking people use, giant bobber on top with about 6 feet of line underneath to a 1-2 oz weight. Not sure how legal it is but they usually have about 6 size 8 baitholder hooks on dropper loops going down baited with chicken kidneys or squid. I was at pier 14 last Friday and they were hauling in 3-4 smelt at a time while the bite was on.

Yes to tipping your droppers or sabiki with squid or shrimp. But in SF Bay you’re limited to a maximum of 3 hooks. Good way to go about it is just buy a cheap #6 sabiki and cut off every other hook.
JS like to savage their bait and their slim profile allows for some pretty aggressive headshakes. Fun to catch and if you get one with no worms they are real tasty (oily fish like mackerel). Otherwise, they make good crab bait lol 😆

    Baby cab.
I've cought 3 this year so far since I switched from freshwater to saltwater fishing in Sept. All from shore and today it was a legal one.

I feel sorry for you guys I fished these docks for sixty years when they had fish worth talking about.

Use a Sabiki rig to catch smelt. I buy size 10 hooks on the Sabiki. Sometimes you'll catch 2 to 4 at once. Tight lines bro.

will do...there's another YTuber who catches them from shore near chrissy field...small shiny spoons; i'd bet a heavier rooster tail would even work...hope to run into you at some point...
