    Last October when I was last in Gulf Shores on the pier, I caught a mess of spade fish using sabiki rigs. I cleaned em, scaled their tiny scales off, took the heads off, scored em, and grilled them whole over charcoal. Really yummy!

  • @saltandsurffishing
    @saltandsurffishing 2 года назад +9

    We caught some spades off the pier on sabikis and tried them. My mom doesn’t do seafood but she tried the spade and she really liked it. Everything was mixed up we had some spade and a pomp and the meat looked the same but the sweet flavor was distinct. I think it’s all ab how ur taste feels. Love the pier vids! Always something going on there

I just used salt, pepper and garlic in a little oil. Cooked it "bone in" obviously because they're too small to filet. Need several to make a meal though.

    It is just the way you cooked it. I commented a while back on a video and told you that they are good if blackened…. However, what I did is add an extra ingredient. Butter in a hot pan, kinders blackened season and tajin clasico seasoning with lime. Cook it up!!! It’s fine that way! Got to try the catch and cook one more time this way! If it’s no good, then it may be taste buds, 😝! Keep up with the great content bro!

    Probably a similar issue as with the common carp.
    Americans call them a trash fish, but if put on ice and/or bled out, and you remove the tissue around the main vessel along the lateral line, then soak the fillets and buttermilk first, they're actually pretty decent.

My wife crispy fries cigar minnows caught fresh and the meat isn’t bad, just scales them removes the gills and guts and fries them crispy. Eats the heads while they are hot, like people eat mullet tails. Says its good ive not tried. She makes kinilwa out of the back straps of bonita and sashimi both where actually good. Yes I prefer spanish and king, speckled trout and redfish. But she opened my eyes to what I would try since when I lived on the panhandle.

      Good evening Zachary, when cooking food can be a mystery to learn what brings out the best taste in most fish. Butter works with some but not all. But when someone say that they don't like something is because it wasn't prepared properly. It's like pitching a baseball ⚾ the picture never throws it the same way every time, so a change up might be needed to bring out the best taste.
