Saga really is the best. My sister is on her 4th reread of the series and she's the type of person who would have never considered reading a comic book. Keep up the incredible videos!
the best comics are the ones not about superheroes, ex. Sandman, Saga, and etc. Wish more writers are not hesitant about using the comics as a medium for storytelling. If you find the perfect artist to enhance the story telling, it's gold right there.
@@metsrus yes comics are amazing even the superhero ones are great but yeah I see it they should do more other stories cus there is amazing writers in comics media they have alot of different stories they just don't get spotlight
@@Elricsedric yup television and movies are turning to comic books for ideas more than ever, walking dead, sweet tooth, sandman, and etc. A lot of comics are getting optioned.
@@metsrus yeah they always did I just feel like they should promote the books more with them to get attention to alot of great stories cus I swear most people who watch these movies never know that they're comics
I recently started reading and I think my favorite part about it it’s how it establishes every character, what they believe and how they’re like, and then mix them all in a series of events that changes one or more of them drastically so that next time two characters meet they have new motivations or characteristics. It moves so fast
You are a nice bit of flavor that RUclips needs. More creators like you would make RUclips great again. Your videos are so passionate yet funny, but you can also see the time and sheer love you put into each one. Hands down one of my favorite creators of all time cause you're good at making stuff.
That will be the first comment I write on yt. I love your channel because you a) talk about everything I love - Avatar, Hamilton, Saga, representation in Black Panther (you posted video just few days after I had an argument with my dad about why representation matters) and b) your videos are stunning and your narration is on point. And this Saga video is no different - you talk about what is most beautiful and more important in a pice of art and you do it perfectly. I love Saga, I reread it every time I buy new volume because this amazing space opera is mindblowing in its scope (all the places, characters, everything so weird, amazing and beautiful) but also so intimate at the same time. Also, I really like Marco and his violent/non-violent dilemma. But hey, every character has something I can take personally so yeah. Kudos for a great video
I picked up the first comic in a second hand shop really early on and I didn’t know what I was about to embark on!! You really surprised me with this video but I’m glad you covered this series :)
I've been putting off reading Saga for awhile now, whether it's work, school, or writing my own stuff. But you've made me really want to get invested in this world I'll probably pick up the first volume this weekend!
'This is how an idea becomes real', it's true is a great first line. That said, lest we forget, the first line of dialogue; "Am I shitting? It feels like I'm shitting!"
I really like your channel, and because I trust you (you made an Avatar: The Last Airbender video so you have a phenomenal taste in movies etc.) I paused the video and started to read Saga. Amazing so far! I'll come back for this video once I've read all the issues, so no spoilers. Great content, keep going!!
Just finished the compendium. The thing I love most about Saga is the fantastic characters, and the fact there's not really a true main villain. Everyone has believable motivations and your view on certain characters changes so often.
I was doing pretty well at being patient for Saga's return. But after watching this video, I have lost my will to live in a world without Hazel & company. So, thanks for that!
I started reading Saga at 17 and it became the first non marvel or DC comic I'd ever read. I'm 20 now and all caught up, I've been buying it issue by issue for almost a year now and it has yet to loose it's spark. Saga is my all time FAVORITE comic series, and this is coming from someone who's a big Batman family nerd and while the characters of DC have been around for longer in my life, Saga has me captivated in how honestly genuine but at the same time surreal it is. It paints it's world and characters in such a brutally honest way that I can't help nodding along to every nonsensical idea it presents, wether it be a cats that can tell when you're lying, people with TVs for heads, or rocket ships made from trees. Go read Saga if you haven't already please. (Also go read Chew it's my 2nd favorite comic and it's also from Image Comics. Also it's completed)
Best part was you finding different ways to describe a blow job lol, but in all seriousness I couldn't agree more, I only started reading Saga a few weeks ago (largely so I could recommend it to a friend who seems to like Indy books more than the ones the big two puts out) and I almost instantly fell in love with the book, ITS SO GOOD!
Thanks man, I love Saga and this video reflects perfectly why I love the comic and why it's, hands down, one of the biggests comics. Awesome work and thanks, again.
RUclips tells me I haven't watched this before, but I don't believe it. At any rate, now that I'm finally binging on the "Horns & Wings" podcast during my commutes-which is absolutely PHENOMENAL BTW-I am taking your advice and (re-)watching this (again?).
First, this video was very well done. Nice job! Second, I had no idea Saga even existed until today when I started to do some research on the book writing process. This video was entertaining and helpful, so thanks!
Mr. Stuff (I believe that is your name) your description of Saga made me realize how much I want a surprisingly similar comic (One Piece) to take it's characters more seriously. Great vid as always!
Great video. Hope to see more from you. Also: my unsolicited Saga opinion is sort of in line with yours, that the series as a whole has gone from strength to strength in developing its world and characters to the point that the series could be seen as better now that it ever has been, but I'd also argue that the individual 6-ish part story arcs can vary pretty wildly in terms of quality, I especially had mixed feelings about the second from most recently completed story arc, the one on Phang, which I really don't think was executed as well as it could have been. That being said, perhaps that adds to the charm of the series? I certainly think that telling the wider story of Saga through these stories detailing individual events in the lives of the characters is the right way to tell this story, and I like having an ending of sorts every couple of issues.
2:13 into this video and I'm already dead set on buying this series. You sold me, no more spoilers. I'll come back to this video when I read the series.
Idk how I read the first one than I bought the second one and my mum looked through it (I’m 15) the second one was taken off me O_O. Now I have to wait till I’m 17 😩 it was such a good story tho 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
I like your videos, but I feel like for this video you gush about how you like the comic more than you explain how the elements pull in the reader. For example, when talking about how Fiona Staples uses color in her art, you summarize that the color usage is perfect instead of going over how the use of color captivates the reader. I think you could use more examples from the story of Saga because I feel like you were hesitant on using story examples in this video in order not to spoil the story for viewers who haven't read it yet, so some points were vague. In general, I like vids and I'm excited for the next one! I am definitely about to read Saga. This video made me interested.
Yeah, this was definitely a tricky one since I wanted to be a bit broader with my praise to avoid diving too deep into spoiler territory (plus, I sorta hoped Fiona's art speaks for itself) but that is a totally valid critique! I'll try to add a few more adjectives to the next one instead of just being awestruck the whole time, lol.
I was wondering, is the realistic humanism that is being portrayed in Saga that makes it relatable the same as the honesty that is being portrayed in BoJack Horseman?
I love reading this comic book so vary much because it's like star wars in the mix with game of thrones and dr seuss books but for adults of a dr seuss book ☺🍺🍹🍷
Please make more videos! You got me to read this entire comic just to watch your video (I came here from watching the avatar video which I adored), and I’m kinda pissed off at you because you made me read something unfinished which left us on a cliffhanger 😱😭. But thanks regardless hahahah! Please make more videos!
Those outtakes at the end are amazing. (And does anyone else think that "outtakes" looks like it's spelled wrong? I looked it up, and this is correct, but it just doesn't look right. Like the word "segueing." One has too many t's and the other has too many vowels...)
This was just the video I was looking for. I'm a comic book nerd, I've been aware of Saga more or less since the beginning but didn't read it. On the long run, I sometime feel the series lacks moments of conclusion, but yea that's also the charm of it, the journey instead the destination and conclusion. Overall the balance between story, art and pacing is good and rear!
I just paused 3 minutes in. This is the first time a video with a spoiler warning has gotten me to actually pause and say "maybe I should read it first..."

Thank you for making this video. ***SPOILER*** My favorite character was Marco. I can’t believe what just went down. I mean I knew The Will was gonna catch up with them eventually, but shit.
God, that issue solidified everything this video is about for me. I was equal parts destroyed by it, but also so grateful that there's a comic that makes me love the characters so much that it can even destroy me in the first place. On my latest read-through, Marko became my favorite, too. It's just so refreshing anymore to see such an ethical character in such an evil world.
