you probably dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream all the latest series on instaflixxer. Been watching with my gf for the last couple of days :)
Well XCAR is funded by FOX... so they won't. Drive produces a wider variety of arguably better content for a much smaller budget/profit margin. So stop whining when they ask for a bit of money to put food on the table and carry on producing great content.
Stefan Wojcik Drive has a deal with NBC, but I think what's ruined Drive is bad management, they had over a year to diversify their source of revenue, why didn't they a Drive website, why didn't they just make a second channel for vlogs and behind the scene and funny bloppers on which they could salvage a lot of content they've already filmed anyway and make tons of money out of it, why didn't they make a mobile app that would use the website as a source of feed, why didn't they look for partners for direct ads in video..;....ect ect
InitialDAmine because ad revenue doesn't generate enough to fund all of that... why is that so hard to understand? youtube money is shit. The NBC funding is only recent and they wouldn't be able to post that content for free on youtube anyway.
Stefan Wojcik did you even read my comment? Not only you are clueless about youtube partner program and how it works and how Drive came to, but you didn't even read the part where I clearly stated that they had over a year, to diversify their revenue resources and they did NOT and I gave some examples, there are channels that produce as much if not more content that Drive and they are doing just fine, because they managing their business properly. Do you really believe that Drive+ would save the Drive channel? that's only a delusion coming from someone who cannot manage a business.
Usually not the biggest BMW fan but this car gets my full attention, respect and admiration. Kudos to BMW for creating such a masterpiece. And thanks for understanding the car as what it is meant to be Alex.
Eh I personaly thing all e92 3 series look quit quit nice they all do look pretty similar but that's not a bad thing as they look good..same with audis
I drove an i8 as part of a six supercar track day experience and found it to be subjectively better than the F-Type and more than quick enough at road speeds with preposterous grip in the bends with the torque vectors front end.
If they linked up the hybrid/electric system with a V8 or something and had around 400-500bhp then I'd consider this a supercar, this is a hybrid electric sports car
These days i realize a lot of automotive reviewers call a lot of cars super cars. What i would really like to know in principle or the fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation of qualifying a car as a super car.
I am so happy bmw have made this car because when it all come to it and we have to buy hybrids this is the only one I would consider getting at this moment in time. This really is the future.
This is the past and so is electric. We've had hybrid cars for a long time. However, electric is much faster and where things should be going. He mentioned 10 years down the line and other companies trying to do the hybrid thing...well, by then they can easily do electric and get more torque, more range, more (e)mpg and faster acceleration, why would any manufacturer aim for hybrid at this point except for a quick profit while on their way to pure electric? I see hybrid as a short phase, not the future.
I don't quite agree with labeling it a Supercar. This is not a supercar IMO. A great Sports car? Definitely. But a "supercar"....meh, it just doesn't feel like one. that's just my opinion though.
Trevor Bennett Well I consider all those to be sports cars. The Audi R8, when it came out, was a super car, as it was competitive with all the other super cars at the time. The Maserati is a GT, as is Aston Martin, Although Aston themselves call the Vantage a "Sports car". Nonetheless, as I originally said, it's my opinion, you have yours.
Really is a game changer and an open door to what future cars will be like, gotta say I will miss the hell out of these loud naturally aspirated motors tho
Great vid, as always! It just reminds me of the fact that if Porsche would have been able to produce the 918 for about a third the price...they would be ruling the car world right now.
Beautifully shot video really good feedback from Alex explaining attributes & the little downsides. IMO I feel it's a bold design futuristically good looking, you are not going to mistake it for anything but a BMW exotic, my only complaint for me, at my age it was a little difficult getting in and out of it, small luggage bags would have to go in the rear seats....love everything else
In my opinion it is a masterpiece of art and engineering. And it combines best of both worlds of electric powered and petrol enginged cars. It is the logical step from conventional cars to fully electric cars. (until they solved the "problem" of charging time and range of battery)
Another reviewer said that the back of the car looks like its giving birth to a 991 911... and once you see it, you only see it. The back is the only part of the whole package which I personally don't like, the rest of the car seems brilliant
Amazing review, one thing though, the first car that looked like a concept is definitely not the i8 as some before, such as the Evoque, is very similar to their concepts (maybe there are some other earlier ones but i don't remember.) Everything else highlighted why the i8 is so awesome though!
I'm not a particular fan of the version shown in this video, I do not like the color scheme... but I recently saw one that was black on black on dark chrome... that looked awesome!
Great review Alex you set the benchmark for reviews with drones etc 6 yrs ago, and ref I8 being a polymath of a car, you have understood it fully sir on the button.... over last 6 yrs most keyboarders think eh 3 cylinder nah and have lampooned it despite not driving it!! Koeniggsegg don't they have embraced the concept for a car selling for £1m !! I have had 3 of them - my latest the Roadster was 40% off list (same discount as the Z8 I got in 2003 for £60k and they are now £200k)- if you have £70-75k to invest 10 plus years BUY A ROADSTER ONLY 2500 MADE WORLDWIDE / NOW FINISHED WILL BE MASSIVELY LAMENTED IN A DECADE + it's a better bet than FTSE as they will be £150k plus in ten years and £500k in 40 yrs like the hitherto also unloved discounted in 80/81 E26 M1 I have ! WHEN THEY ARE GONE FROM DEALERS, THEY ARE GONE !!
I think Citroen should refresh the GTbycitroen concept they did a few years back, make it a little more road worthy and it could give this car a serious run for its money.
I saw a blue i8 in person and it's more impressive than a Veyron in my opinion. It's a type of car that just doesn't belong on the city streets, almost like an iPhone in the Jurassic period. Although, I don't understand why you need the hybrid technology in this car. If you can afford one of these then that means you are somewhat wealthy and can afford petrol and wouldn't be driving in economy mode all the time. It's an awesome car never the less.
Finally the new age has begon! the reign of the huge V8 and V12 will be just a fond memory, now comes efficency and practicality. these next few years to come will be very amazing in the world of tech. and you can say it all started at the Tesla. im just waitting for an amazing car with a decent price.
I liked the review, but felt that you ran out of information just over halfway through. Can this be compared to the 918, if so why wasn't it? If not, why not?
The idea of a concept car is pretty simple. The clue's in the name. They're about conceptualising ideas. The production cars that result from it are never going to be the same, and they were never meant to be. That said, most of BMW's recent "concept" cars have more or less just been the production cars anyway. Take a look at the "concept" version of the 4 series. I'm not sure I like this i8 though. I mean, it looks cool (except the wheels in my opinion), but I don't really like the way they've done the hybrid stuff. It still feels like it's two separate drivetrains stuck in to a single body. That doesn't sit right with me. I much prefer it the way the P1 does, where the electric stuff is kind of like a supercharger that compliments the combustion engine instead. Also, you have to wonder what this car would be like if they could have saved some weight and focused on just putting a more powerful combustion engine in.
I love it. The only thing I'm missing, is a huge, proper exhaust pipe! I mean, come on now. It's a super car, it needs one. To think that cool aluminium pipe would destroy its eco image, that's just stupid. Sports cars = exhaust sounds = exhausts.
With that amount of torque and horsepower, and weighing as much as it does, the i8 could easily do sub-4 second 0-60mph times with more sporty gearing. But BMW made a nice compromise between quickness and economy/emissions. I just hope there are enough people willing to lay down that amount of cash for this car. I'd love to see them on the road on a regular basis, and I hope it doesn't die out quickly because of the price.
Technology is moving on and as he said in ten years time every car will be powered by a hybrid system, the downside though is that struggling companies that build great cars like Lotus etc will struggle as the development costs are going to be so high. I think a lot of smaller car companies will go out of business which is a shame.
I like engenering, turbo boost from big turbo, with no turbo bust in low rpm, what electric power compensate with high torqe in all rev band. God like aceleration and low fuel consumption. Sports car on the budget
Always said, once there is a big enough market the giants will enter. As he says i3 and i8 are BMW's first efforts in the hybrid market with purpose built vehicles and not reworked existing models. And they have already sold a tone of them. Soon there will be BMW i1, i2, and i3 with batteries and 0,5L and 1,0L petrol engines for the masses. And sports cars like i8 but even better. And of curse the other giants will fallow. These kind of cars are the viable cars of the future until there is a real and expanded infrastructure for battery only car. Cars that cost less than their petrol counterparts, can be charged everywhere (and not a supercharger every 250 miles) and also can be charged in max 5 minutes on the way. A bit longer at home, but not in 15 hours.
The next generation of supercars.BMW always risks in seeking different paths to competition and this time he has managed to create a unique car with a revolutionary technology. One question:Where can start the production in Spain?.
very good one as always ..but i don't think that this car is the future sports cars...in total, until it gets cheaper to make this car, starting prices @ $135,800 USD . @ that kind of cost the combustion sports car will be around for sometime to come
+gosse schukken THE SOUND YOU HEAR FROM THE SPEAKERS IS THE REAL I8 ENGINE BEING AMPLIFIED FROM THE MOTOR SO THE PASSENGERS CAN HEAR IT BETTER.. THE ENGINE IS ALSO PLAYED ON THE OUTSIDE VIA SPEAKERS SO WHEN YOU PASS BY SPECTATORS... THEY CAN ENJOY THE I8 ENGINES TOO.. NOTHING IS FAKE..IT IS ONLY AMPLIFIED..
Brilliant. I don't really care about emissions because your simple car won't save the world but the most important is that if you want you can do a roadtrip during your holidays, enjoy the car all day long, during for example 3000 km, for no more than 500€ of fuel, whereas a 911/R8 would have costed you three or four times this price, with a stop at the gas station every 500 km.
and yet petrol companies will find a way to quintuple their prices in order to get their profit margins EDIT: reading through some of the comments and I think the 'will it age well' is a great question, I think it will but not like classic bmw's of 70's-2000's
Arguably this is the best BMW i8 review on RUclips - well done :)
Definitely the best. The photography at the beginning is great 👍🙂
Alex is rapidly becoming one of my favorite motoring journalists.
Keep up the good work fella!
Me too, mild-mannered, informative, intelligent, no fake 'woohoo!' when driving, no hooligan-eque drifting, got my vote also!
Has been exatly that for some time already. Guy got skillz.
you probably dont give a shit but if you're bored like me during the covid times you can stream all the latest series on instaflixxer. Been watching with my gf for the last couple of days :)
@Andre Demetrius yup, I have been watching on InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
@Andre Demetrius yea, I have been using InstaFlixxer for months myself :D
OMG FREE EPIC CONTENT ON RUclips! Please don't become like drive!!!!
Well XCAR is funded by FOX... so they won't. Drive produces a wider variety of arguably better content for a much smaller budget/profit margin. So stop whining when they ask for a bit of money to put food on the table and carry on producing great content.

Usually not the biggest BMW fan but this car gets my full attention, respect and admiration. Kudos to BMW for creating such a masterpiece.
And thanks for understanding the car as what it is meant to be Alex.
For me the best channel on RUclips.
The photography is fantastic and the presenter is spot on.
Keep the good work.
Seen this car while I was taking my drivers license test. I was in awe.
This is what all cars should be! Damn that's one sexy car
Had a look at a black one at my local BMW dealer, it's a stunning thing to look at in the flesh and sitting in it felt so good
Love the passion you guys have for these cars. Great review as always!
A rare example of a BMW that actually looks good.
It's because it looks different. Every BMW looks too similar these days.
I think the i8's looks are even worse
Flo Shaban Same for Audi
Eh I personaly thing all e92 3 series look quit quit nice they all do look pretty similar but that's not a bad thing as they look good..same with audis
Besides the I3, X series and any hatchback, there isn't a bad looking BMW mate
Saw an i8 last week at joe duffy bmw, dublin and it looked amazing. Really liked the way the doors opened. Loved the blue colour too :)
Your films (especially the camera action) are astounding! Keep up brilliant work! :)
What a beautifull video. I realy like this car. Congratz to the film crew.
New favorite show, Drive sold out please don't sell out too xcar
I drove an i8 as part of a six supercar track day experience and found it to be subjectively better than the F-Type and more than quick enough at road speeds with preposterous grip in the bends with the torque vectors front end.
Ohh XCAR...what an amazing episode this was...again.
Please don't go the same way as /DRIVE does.
Also this car is sold out for 3 - 3 1/2 years it sold more than tesla on pre orders alone and the car still isn't out yet or so I've read.
Yeah I read that too,
I'd definitely have this over a Tesla S any day
ellieisfit15 oh yeah definatly
Ya I've never seen one but I have seen an i3 which looked kinda weird
trevor philips The i8 isn't out yet, it comes out in September I believe.
ellieisfit15
If they linked up the hybrid/electric system with a V8 or something and had around 400-500bhp then I'd consider this a supercar, this is a hybrid electric sports car
an incredible car. I have driven a few of them. amazing. on my list. great review. even in April 2020, still ultra sharp.
These days i realize a lot of automotive reviewers call a lot of cars super cars. What i would really like to know in principle or the fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation of qualifying a car as a super car.

no. no it is not.
"explodie battery bits" this phrase should be universally accepted term.
I bit the bullet & bought one. love it. amazing. will never sell it.
Almost 4years later and I still cannot think of any better car for the bang of the buck.
Nice job Alex. Beautifully shot.
13:45 - WHAT ARE THOOOOSSSEEEEE??!!?
Lol sorry, Couldn't help it. Great video.
+SuperStar O hahahah spot on
Great review guys. Best i8 review out there.
I can't wait for the hardcore version to come out.
Please can someone tell me where he did the filming for this? That mountain shot is so beautiful
I don't quite agree with labeling it a Supercar. This is not a supercar IMO. A great Sports car? Definitely. But a "supercar"....meh, it just doesn't feel like one. that's just my opinion though.

kezboy1 only Super car Aston have is the bonkers Vantage V12S
DB9 Virage Vanquish Rapide are all GTs
Maserati are all GTs except MC Stradale
司徒凱文 don't forget the One-77 :)
Have you driven it?
Congratulations - you Sir are a great Journalist 10/10
Really is a game changer and an open door to what future cars will be like, gotta say I will miss the hell out of these loud naturally aspirated motors tho
Awesomely done.. like usual XCar
By far the best review of i8.
Great quality content there XCAR ! And its free
Great vid, as always! It just reminds me of the fact that if Porsche would have been able to produce the 918 for about a third the price...they would be ruling the car world right now.
Awesome, just can´t get over that 991 in the back :)
Beautifully shot video really good feedback from Alex explaining attributes & the little downsides. After all that being said it ,doesn't change the fact that it looks like it's trying to shit out a 911 from the rear.
Hahahahah. Lol I can see that
that 911 part is the best part of the car ;)
Nice video to watch i like his thoughts, quite philosophic......
this car is gonna be a future classic
In my opinion it is a masterpiece of art and engineering. And it combines best of both worlds of electric powered and petrol enginged cars. It is the logical step from conventional cars to fully electric cars. (until they solved the "problem" of charging time and range of battery)

This’s the nicest looking bmw ever
Can't wait to see an i8 later today. So excited :D
At first I thought you were Richard hamington for top gear. You sound like him. 👌👍
I'm not a particular fan of the version shown in this video, I do not like the color scheme... but I recently saw one that was black on black on dark chrome... that looked awesome!
Lovely review, great footage and a great car.
Do you have to charge it or it charges itself through petrol and braking etc?
I understand that the styling was dictated dynamics, but that car looks like each panel was designed by a different design studio.
dam that is beautiful. So efficient so good looking and enough performance for most people.
What's the music called at the beginning please?
Great review Alex you set the benchmark for reviews with drones etc 6 yrs ago, and ref I8 being a polymath of a car, you have understood it fully sir on the button.... over last 6 yrs most keyboarders think eh 3 cylinder nah and have lampooned it despite not driving it!! what a cool car, im looking forward to gawking at the first one i see on the road!

the sound from the car in sport mode is simulated by the way
I seriously love this car..
i feel like the //M division should get a chance to have a go at this car, and see what comes of it
Holy freaking crap I want that. Do they sell a US version? Please say yes, please say yes
This time your exalt was spot ooooooon. Cheers m8
I bought a 8 and i think it fantastic
Finally the new age has begon! the reign of the huge V8 and V12 will be just a fond memory, now comes efficency and practicality. these next few years to come will be very amazing in the world of tech. and you can say it all started at the Tesla. im just waitting for an amazing car with a decent price.
I heard they're planning on bringing out the i9.. which is a more powerful and lighter version of this...lets see how that one turns out
I liked the review, but felt that you ran out of information just over halfway through.
Muzica populara
I love it. The only thing I'm missing, is a huge, proper exhaust pipe! I mean, come on now. It's a super car, it needs one. To think that cool aluminium pipe would destroy its eco image, that's just stupid. Sports cars = exhaust sounds = exhausts.

that is the sentence of the day "Concept is becoming reality" very true
Why did I have to hear that 911 joke...once it's seen, it can never be unseen
Damn good video sir! I'm impressed.
Technology is moving on and as he said in ten years time every car will be powered by a hybrid system, the downside though is that struggling companies that build great cars like Lotus etc will struggle as the development costs are going to be so high. I think a lot of smaller car companies will go out of business which is a shame.
It would be interesting if they will make a disel one
I like engenering, turbo boost from big turbo, with no turbo bust in low rpm, what electric power compensate with high torqe in all rev band. God like aceleration and low fuel consumption. Sports car on the budget
3:45
OH my god, that is just scary to see, like looking in a mirrror
I seen this in person when I was driving to Woodbury outlet I couldn't take any pic cause my memory was full
We subscribe to this channel simple because we get

DRIVE falls, XCAR spots the gap... THEY GO FOR IT!!
The next generation of supercars.BMW always risks in seeking different paths to competition and this time he has managed to create a unique car with a revolutionary technology. One question:Where can start the production in Spain?.
its available in my country and free. xcar makes me happy
It looks good but I'll wait for the one two from now.
I know it has 2 motors but the petrol one is a 1.5 L 3 cylinders engine.... how can a car with 1,485 kg be a lightweight car like he said?
very good one as always ..but i don't think that this car is the future sports cars...in total, until it gets cheaper to make this car, starting prices @ $135,800 USD . @ that kind of cost the combustion sports car will be around for sometime to come
Great review
great video, great video
where was this filmed?
Amazing review, as usual.
i8 M, BMW?
My son loves this car😀😀😀
Did i hear inline 2L inline 3 cylinder turbo petrol?
so i recently co drove this thing and disapointed to say that the noise is all speakers
Rewatching this video now make me miss the old days even more with all these regulations on gas powered cars
Looks just awesome.
4:43
uhoh, somebody put a crack in the bodywork!
how much does it cost?
Brilliant. I don't really care about emissions because your simple car won't save the world but the most important is that if you want you can do a roadtrip during your holidays, enjoy the car all day long, during for example 3000 km, for no more than 500€ of fuel, whereas a 911/R8 would have costed you three or four times this price, with a stop at the gas station every 500 km.
and yet petrol companies will find a way to quintuple their prices in order to get their profit margins
EDIT: reading through some of the comments and I think the 'will it age well' is a great question, I think it will but not like classic bmw's of 70's-2000's
