Capt Reddy said certain things right and certain things wrong.
1- Buddhism was born out of the frustration of the ritualistic nature of Vedic civilization. Buddha vehemently opposed the ritualism of Vedic(bear in mind there was no Hinduism then)
2- Subsequent Buddhists introduced loosely Veganism, erected Buddhist statues etc..., which lead to idol worship among the Proto-Hindu civilization and Puranic literature during which some Vedic Gods were elevated and humanized and some demoted. Note worthy among them were Vishnu, Shiva and Indra . Hindus started dressing up gods like humans after kings and queens and services....
