    Something you failed to mention about Josuke and Tooru's dynamic is that they're the antithesis of each other. While Josuke is a person desesperately obsessed with finding out his own memories and his past, Tooru is a person always living in the past, every single time he's on a panel he almost always mentions his memories and that he remembers things, like how he remembers the doctor, or how he reminisces about Yasuho all the time. When stripped down to its cores Josuke is basically a character with no memories of his own while Tooru is almost exclusively made out of memories, even his last words reference his own memories.

      calling josuke someone "obsessed with the past" is genuinely a pretty embarrassing display of a lack of reading comprehension. he straight up says at the university hospital parking lot that he doesn't care about his memories anymore and that he just wants to have a new life where he can help holly as his, not kira's, mother

      @@IEatYourSandwiches My original comment wasn't about Josuke's growth as a character, of course he grows past his desire to find out ''who he is'', that's the entire point of his arc. He chooses to live his own life, but for a significant amount of time he _is_ obsessed with finding out who he is. But I'm not talking about his arc, just his dynamic with the main villain and the interesting traits both have surrounding memories.

    I never realized that the solution to the final battle was perfectly foreshadowed in the first chapter. The first image we see of soft & wet is a bubble coming out of the star birthmark, we know at the end that it's not actually a bubble but a infinitely rotating string. The best part is that we only see this through the picture Yasuho took of the birthmark with her phone which is actually her stand. We don't see it actually coming out of Josuke's body because its an invisible bubble but it can be channeled through Yasuhos stand!

      @GG256_ 3 года назад

      @@wakandaforever8597 Please dont be shy about stating things like this. Jojolion has the best characters in the series hands down, and some of the best writing. New kira, gappy, jobin, literally they're all great. I love it. *But.* Why just abandon holly when that was gappys main goal? Guess that's an abandoned plot point. (And no, him finding himself as his own person doesn't excuse him dropping this motivation, the cast still owed Holly, and she wasn't portrayed as a negligent b**** like alternate josukes mom, she was meant to be redeemed or saved. Or at least written that way.) Why just have a whole issue dedicated to exposition, but with little to no explanation? "Rock humans are..." Ok. Cool. They really are cool. But how and why did they all congregate? Do they need to actually exist, or could they have just been a group of nefarious humans like a gang? Would anything have changed? What relationship do they have to the lokakaka? Guess that's just an abandoned plot point. Where the hell do rock animals live? How come no one sees them? They aren't stands. Where are their habitats? How could a rock human control them, why haven't stand users ever controlled them? What are the wall eyes? They're like the devil's palm? I guess I'll say it's alluded to at least. I get it. Things in Jojo are random. In some cases it can be chalked up to, "because it's bizarre." And that's okay. What I don't like is when major plot points are "just because." No matter how entertaining I thought Jojolion actually was. Tooru was introduced way too late, Jobin made much more sense as a villain and I thought he'd be the one. And the ending, no matter how much I liked the last panel, felt like a cop out. "Let's just focus on a random rock animal and Jonathan to placate fans, so we can lead into a wholesome final panel." It was very messy, I sincerely hope Araki utilizes some of these plot points in Jojolands, but if not, this will definitely be my least favorite part besides part 5. Cool concepts don't stand on their own. Also. And finally. My man Gappy didn't get the girl... And that's okay, except there's volumes of tension written to allude to it. There is no regard for chekovs gun in the part and I won't accept it as a writing technique. No matter how "Kool" the part is.

    What I liked most about Jojolion was that the enemies was used as a springboard for the plot, and not as a hinderance. Part 2 and 7 is similar in that sense, and in part 3 almost every enemy is a hinderance to get to dio. The long fights in 8 also enhances that

      YES YES YES, I always rate the minor villains on the spectrum of how cool that guy is but with the JoJolion villains even if I don't have any personal enjoyment to the character or fight, I would still enjoy the arc based on how it extends the things that has been built up and how it pushes the plot forward, Like each part has an endgame goal, defeat dio, get the corpse, and yada yada but you can never guess the endgame of JoJolion at all, no one expected the guardrail!

      JoJolion has no grand designs or plans. Part 1 is small-scale and limited to a house and then a town but Jonathan and Dio are so archetypically good and evil, respectively, that you can believe that the adventures were far grander. Parts 2 and 3 are obviously grandiose. Part 4 is about people in Morioh but then a serial killer comes about, and given that he is determined the plot can be seen to pick up come Shigechi’s death. Part 5 spans all of Italy and focuses on the intrigue of the mafia. Part 6 ends the Joestar line and many of the battles are dramatic. Part 7 has a goal everyone guns for and has themes of bad patriotism. Part 8 is literally a person trying to find himself and then failing at procuring a fruit. He goes to an apartment. He finds an infatuated daughter after being adopted into a family. He wanders around town, lost. He passes by an alleyway where people scams each other with leaflittered paths. He battles with beetles. And even after the focus is on the TG university Rock Humans, it is just them using the fruit vs Josuke using the fruit vs Jobin using the fruit. Everything is low-stakes. That is fairly refreshing being that JoJo plots are high-stakes and escalating.

    I'll be completely honest; ever since I've watched and read every part of JoJo, Jojolion was always my least favorite. I knew it was objectively good and the art absolutely peaked, but it never really clicked with me. The ending felt abrupt, underwhelming and anticlimactic to me, especially since I grew increasingly frustrated with the Calamity storyline dragging on for so long.
    However your video truly changed my perspective and made me reflect on why did I dislike Jojolion. I grew too attached to JoJo's usual formula of a clear cut main villain and the quest being completed with a more or less upbeat tone. I overlooked that the entire point of Jojolion was excentricity, breaking away from the mold and a completely new and different themes than the previous parts. I wasn't used to the monthly release, so when a new chapter would come out, I would speedread it to see where the plot will go and then forget everything else. Now though, I've reconsidered my thoughts, reflected deeper on Jojolion's core themes and I'm so happy to say that I've changed my mind.
    This part is really special and I'm so happy that I finally got to appreciate it!

    I really liked jojolion.. it was an adventure that i could, connect more in a bizarre way, finding who you really are is a really difficult task growing up, and i found it specially difficult for being gay in a family that didnt really talked about the subject with me before, so until i was 15 yrs old i would just be lost, not knowing why i was so unhappy and feeling like a sore thumb, but i met someone that was part of the lgbt community and was amazed, i have finally found what was wrong with me! I was trying to be someone else!
    That is why jojolion is such a great story for me, i could really believe in Josuke’s situation, and why his journey was so epic, finding yourself is a great feeling, and i could feel that same feeling again reading the last chapter of jojolion

    The Stand fights were awesome in this part, but I might have to argue that Araki making his Stands less like "spirits with crazy abilities that fight for you" and more like "spirits that give you hyper-specific powers you NEED to use right to win a battle" goes back to Stone Ocean.
    Stone Free not only fights for Jolyne, but it lets her unravel into string. The Planet Waves/Survivor fight was a straight up fistfight, and Limp Bizkit, while having a pretty simple power that turned on its user, was one of the most raw fights in the entire series imo.
    (I also forgot Sky High, which is pretty much a way for Rykiel to steal your body heat that has no other combat capabilities as it's literally a bracelet.)
    tl;dr Part 6, to me, was when Araki realized that Stands could be more that just punchy ghost spirit

    My favorite part of Jojolion is the characters. Even minor antagonists who only show up for a handful of chapters are fleshed out and given attention. I think besides the Aphex brothers, which is intentional and the antagonists who are quite literally non sentient (Ginko Leaves) every character is fleshed out. It also helped by making characters hard to guess how important or unimportant they were moving forward. Daiya for example is given so much love and attention for her antagonist arc, and then is minor character afterword. The opposite happens with Kato, who by the time she's introduced the idea of a character being unimportant and just there to make the world feel more alive was expected, yet there she goes in the final arc being a major character.

      Yeah I kind of think it's the opposite than what was said in the video. Part 4 was about the town and the locations, about the vibe and lifestyle of being in a small town. But in part 8 it feels more like the characters give the town its identity, all the Higashikata's, Yasuho and mother, The doctors of TG, Kira, Josefumi and his mother, all of them give the town life, and even though we only meet a small amount of the inhabitants of Morioh, they feel so prevalent and alive in the town, they're all involved and related to the major locations and through them the town gains its life

    • @ludwigvansolo1999
      @ludwigvansolo1999 3 года назад

      I agree while Morioh was enhanced in some aspects in part 8, I still totally think that Part 4s Morioh totally takes the cake and really feels like it's own character even. Part 8s Morioh falls behind only a little bit in my eyes because I feel that it wasn't as copacetic with the rest of the product (i.e. characters, plot, situations, etc) as the Morioh in part 4 where the setting itself and what was happening in it with the story was all very charming and smooth

    The only thing that I will say about Jojolion that even if there is no main villain in it. Tooru's motivations are lacking. There is a fantastic story there, but it isn't fleshed out as much as it could be. Tooru believes that all that's left are dreams, the rock humans, or at least Tooru, dream to be something they are not. They know what they are, but dream to be able to live in human society without issues. On the contrast we have Josuke, you could say he was created by the dream of Josefumi, he is all what is left. He doesn't know who he is, but is the dream that is left.
    We see a lot of Tooru and Wonder of U, yet the only thing I got what he was really about was his last few lines. With a little bit of elaboration, and doesn't need much, it could have been even better

      I mean it's not like it came out of nowhere lol, everytime he wasn't onscreen fighting he was reminiscing about the past, whether it was his relationship with yasuho or his failure to invent wireless charging and become famous like he dreamed of doing. Hell, the music that he listens to is even decades old which, under normal circumstances, isn't weird but with everything put together it paints a very different image, especially knowing how old he _actually_ is.

I remember reading Part 7 and then seeing on r/Shitpostcrusaders the chapter 100 event and I was excited even if I hadn’t read the part yet. I did although catch up at ch 104 but have so many memories reading the series, when I read the first chapter, how I felt, and even reading the manga panel where Kira is wrrying, albeit while sitting on a toilet. Eitherway it’s meant a lot to me and I’ve always known it as ‘that one part that’s still being written’ but even so. It’s bittersweet and sad. I agree that I like what Araki did with some of the ideas, but there’s just so many set-ups without pay-off that I can’t deny that I‘m unsatisfied with it. Flashback Man, the weird flash forward, the story of that weird quiet baby, what exactly the bitemarks are… all of these are unsolved, but not in a mysterious way that has any meaning, these just got dropped. Also, Soft & Wet going from the coolest stand in earlier chapters to becoming Ceasar 2 to later become Vanilla Ice is a worse evolution than even Echoes Act 3. And lastly, Josuke’s and Yasuho‘s designs are probably the most uninteresting in the entire series.
    But I agree with the rest with your statements. If Jojolion ever gets an anime, it‘ll hopefully cut out all these forgotten plot points and explain why Josuke lost the unique quirks of his bubbles. Maybe it’s because he formed an identity and got more grounded in reality, so his stand abilities got nerfed to reflect that. But I wanna hear something, or it‘ll still feel like a retcon.
    The villains are really good tho and the story feels the most dynamic, I totally agree there.

    • @joaoassumpcao3347
      @joaoassumpcao3347 3 года назад +2

      But Josuke never lost his bubble abilities, he just started using them in other ways. The bubbles have the use of either stealing properties, "encasing" objects and people, and exploding (which came directly from Killer Queen). This falls into the "star finger" territory: just because he uses it less doesn't mean he lost the ability as a whole.
