I think this is one of my favourite boss for the "wrong reason". I liked SMT IV even if it's an "incorrectly balanced" game. Because the tone and theme sells the game to me more than the gameplay and story alone. Lucifer here is the perfect boss to sum it up. His theme is unlike Nocturne or anything else here; he's a different being now, transcended, the music is eerie, sorrow, you felt isolated and his second phase basically is the peak of this as it incorporate the very main theme of this game into him. The story is about mediocre as it could get, but the atmosphere and tone stays intact and it's still the best part of the series so far. No game has ever betrayed its theme's feels even in Apocalypse.
With this, I’ve finally completed every main story boss in the three primary routes. There are still a few bosses to go which are going to take a while to finish up, since they’re big time investments on both the preparation side and the attempt side. I think I’ll be able to upload the Zeus rematch and secret Neutral Lucifer battle in the next two weeks, but I really can’t promise anything with Shiva even though I already know exactly what I’m going to do for that battle. That could just be another week or it could be over a month depending on whether the game lets me win or not, in addition to other possible complications. I don’t have any plans for Demi-Fiend as of now. I’ll most likely try to figure something out after I take care of Shiva, but I’ll probably take a moderately lengthy break before that since I imagine planning and testing everything out for that battle will be a significant time investment.
I won’t, let’s just say that the method I’m defeating Shiva by en route to the secret Lucifer battle isn’t worth recording but another version will be.
This boss while maybe not the most challenging was certainly a big reveal when I first encountered him, even if the game has its issues with the story. New Design and his VA, as well as the unsettling Phase 1 music certainly made Lucifer feel truly ethereal. And the real Lucifer fight is even better lol
Mans really invented the Mandala system out of thin air into the story in order to make himself the final boss. What a gigachad. This is probably a more controversial design from Doi, but I think it is really cool to see Lucifer in this way. He sure came a long way from the funny 'fuck everyone in particular' mindset of Nocturne.
@@FungalFury I know, but the issue here is that this is literally never mentioned until Lucifer pulls it out of his ass in the final battle. Maybe if the game mentioned that the gods are trying for a chance to rule a new cycle, it would be better.
@@muddak3292 Well the implication is that the forces vying for creation have almost always been ignorant/unaware of this, which is why lucifer obtaining God's knowledge is important here, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to realize this. Not that I'm saying it couldn't have been better integrated, but improving smt5's plot as a whole would require slower pacing and less buildup across the board.
@@muddak3292 That's the point. No onr really was thinking anything of that kind of system, just focusing for the throne. Lucifer, after absorbing God's Knowledge, figured out where the real issue lied, and it was the Mandala System itself

Speaking of; this is just (still) Lucifer's phase 1. If you do the secret route (no alignment can be sure, but I'm assuming it's Law based on what V-kun does) then you'll have to do this fight for that route which has three phase, so not just this one. But I guess it'll probably be the same anyways. Do you plan on picking up Thalassic Calamity for Shiva? Or Bufubarion?

@@lixaxil4517 Phase 1 Luci literally folds to Tetrakarn. Phase 2 Luci gets soloed by Rangda with Resist Ice. IVA Luci is not very powerful if his Evil Gleam can't inflict Panic (Warding Shout from Hallelujah)
If I might. IV Lucifer 1 dies to Tetrakarn, that is true. Phase 2 is really rough though without a Phys/Gun immunity, although it helps that Girimekhala and Rangda are popular demons. Also notable that Debilitate/Dekunda aren’t used unless buffs/debuffs go past +2/-2 for the entire fight. Apocalypse Lucifer comes after Merkabah, and Hallelujah doesn’t even get Warding Shout that much since it’s after his awakening, so Chiro has a less prominent role. Tetrakarn helps a lot if Hades Blast or Myriad Arrows would cause problems, and also stops him from using Debilitate or Dekunda. If Tetrakarn isn’t used it can be really messy though with all those skills at his disposal and Evil Gleam, especially after Merkabah. V Lucifer is basically just a question of whether or not the demons can survive a Barion hit and if they have piercing skills. It’s generally easy but it’s not Tetrakarn each turn easy.
@@Bucketgetter Still, fun fact. Kingly One will never be used in IV if there is only 1 demon out and Flynn is dead. This means Rangda with Resist Ice can solo both phases
