Timothée Chalamet really disappeared into the role perfectly 😍
Perfect Casting!
One of the writers, is the man that plays the zoo guard. He's part of a unoffical comedy group, another person in that group is Felix, the man that can't stand the word 'Poor'. They met many years ago doing a childrens show called 'Horrible histories'. Which is brilliant.
However, they've recently finished a show called 'Ghosts' (currently being remade in it's third season in the US). I recommend you checking out the BBC version. It's really hillarious! It's main actress in that show, is the lady that get's married. You might prefer the american version, depending on how you prefer your comedy, I prefer it a bit darker. UK shows are much shorter than US ones, so while it's 5 series (seasons in UK), each series have 6 episodes (and later ones have christmas special in addition). My favorite eposode is Bump in the night. I cry laugh at that episode.
I cried when I watched it in the theater, it's so heartfelt and wonderful 🥹😍 the type of movie you rewatch whenever you feel down
I think it would've been amazing if at the end during the song they did a transition to older Wonka and we see Johnny Depp singing the last few seconds there
This movie was utterly adorable and charming
god i watched it today, it was so good. i love timothee chalamet so much. also the monks chanting Giraffe nearly killed me
Wonka varies from a wizard to a really good scientist in all 3 films. This one leans more on the magic side with ingredients and the bigger on the inside ability like with Doctor Who and Mary Poppins.
Saw this film twice in the cinema, partially because of being a fan of Dahl's stories.
But the main reason was because I knew Simon Farnaby was a writer (who also appeared as Basil the security guard), as well as Mathew Baynton playing Fickelgruber.
Both mentioned are excellent writers/actors I've known of from my childhood watching a historical sketch show called Horrible Histories.
More recently though them (and the other 4 friends of theirs) made and starred in a show called Ghosts which I highly recommend you to check out.
It's one of the best British comedies of the last decade.

I expected nothing from this film. And yet in the span of a single viewing it became my favourite movie of 2023. Pure magic, and another win for Paul King.

there are 4 kind of people watching this, 1) who saw all the versions of wonka, 2) who saw only the gene or the jhonny one 3) who watch it without knowing a thing and 4) who can find every detail that relates it with the other ones .. i really love this version and think is a mix of the other 2.

The Twits or the Gloops
I wasn't expecting to love this movie so much. But the did imagie to capture the whimsy of the original beautifully. Not many modern movies lean into it as much. Especially the musicals.
Anyone else get a craving for chocolate after seeing this movie?

Tbh this is my new fav movie it's just amazing and timothee did an exelent job as also did simon and mathew from six idots. I would 100% recommend it !!
I don’t think Wonka is a prequel like everyone thinks, it’s just that we’re so overwhelmed with them that it’s hard to imagine it not being one
i was pleasantly surprised how much i liked this movie! the original holds a special place in my heart, and i also loved the johnny depp version, so this movie had some big shoes to fill, and i was especially skeptical of timothée chalamet. but he and the writer/director did a great job! i think it was very smart to make this a prequel rather than another remake or even some kind of sequel. but the acting, story, and music were all very enjoyable. this is a lovely addition to the small franchise ☺

i grew up with the original on video/VHS and this movie made my jaded adult self feel the same magic as when i was a kid which barely any movies ever do. It was just so fun and everyone in the film just had the perfect energy like they all loved making it. Wonka's actor killed it, actually they all did and it had a good message for kids READ THE SMALL PRINT ;)
The moment when you realise that.....Willy Wonka....asides from or as well as being a chocolatier....is also the greatest genius mankind has ever seen.....in his world at least

It was released on digital platforms in the UK.
I guess you have to have a VPN to see it in the US...
Wonka is the best
Don’t know if you’ve ever seen Epic Movie, it’s basically a parody that mashes up a bunch of different films, it has its own version of Willy Wonka.
If you liked this you need to see Paddington 1 and Paddington 2, outs from the same director and even better than wonka

How did you get the movie when it's still in theaters -and before it's released date that is January 30th, 2024, in the US on amazon
This is one reaction that I will watch without seeing the movie first. I was disappointed to hear they were milking this cow again, and have very low expectations that it will be good. The only way I'd watch the whole thing is if I enjoy the reaction.
