Hello I had same problem with my GE 10k but AC. I ordered a new board for mine. What they sent would not work at all. Too wide and too short length ways and connections all wrong. So I tried your method and it worked. I also found a way to switch off as well. Bundle connect same wires minus the black wire. This can now be switched with connect to a simple thermostat (cool side only); (non programmable).
This allows temperature 🌡️ control of the unit. I just took the GE AC HACK to the next step. This is easy and works. PS. Electronic thermostats must have voltage source to operate the thermostat; some will work at 12 volts DC. Get 1 of those and use a 12 volt DC wall wort to operate the thermostat. Any AC unit that places the controls on front of the EVAP section of the AC, is going to be prone to problems with moisture and corrosion. Not the best location choice for those controls. Remember this when you go to buy another unit. 73 and GOD bless Earnest K5EWM. PS, I am a retired millwright and electrician and a general class license amateur radio operator. 73 and GOD bless America 👍.

The simplest fix would be to replace the circuit board, but for some reason, it is impossible to find the maker. What a travesty of BS!! you get from GE when you contact therir customer service. They want the model, serial, and receipt then they tell you it is not worth repairing the unit. Could have said that in the beginning. I spent 10 days to no avail except to get a credit to be used on another GE which I do not want to waste more money on. Hope that class action suit comes soon.

Mine lasted seven months. Did this it worked. Left it on all night and there was a sheet of frost covering the front about a inch thick. My experience says keep a eye on it and don't run it for long periods

We just had same issue occur with our @GE WINDOW UNIT. This should be a massive recall. Our unit is not even old and is the larger 220vac unit just like this and same exact problem. The larger btu unit like we purchased is roughly $1000 and ours has only been ran for roughly a year. 😡

Yes. I’m seeing that. Amazon refunded me and didn’t want the units back. So I did this to them, instead of throwing away. I only use cool high anyways. Which is what it defaults to after cutting out brain wires

Still a problem with this model in 2022. I had to utilize BBB to get it taken care of but my replacement arrived today, they took the broken one with them and i paid zero dollars aside from the initial purchase. (Under warranty mind you.) When it breaks again ill probably put analog switches on it.

I take care of the unit the board looked good but it’s faulty none the less guys.

GE sent a $75 rebate check! They said that didn't have the part, because "They didn't make the "Airconditioner"!? WTF?
#2. The design of this unit is idiotic or genius? They placed the control panel midway between where the cool air comes in and where the hot air goes out!
Anybody who doesn't know what happens when cool and hot air converge? Apparently GE doesnt?
