This is hands down one of the most underrated hvacr channels on RUclips, I used this channel to understand the refrigeration cycle back when I was in school.
Yup
Thank you Smokey! I appreciate that very much. Need to spread the word & share vids with your friends! Glad my refrigeration cycle video helped you back in school. Thanks for watching & stay tuned for new videos every week🔧⚡️

Thank you for posting this video! My AC stopped working when my husband took it outside to clean it and my kids and I have been dying for the past 5 days in this Florida heat. We assumed the circuit board shorted somewhere when I tried to turn it back on because it may of been wet still. Well I got tired of being hot so I started Googling and came across your video which seemed to be close to the AC I had. My husband didn't know which wires were what so I went on a mission to figure it out myself and you made it so easy to understand and I was able to go to my husband and tell him wire these together then these and you should be good to go. He did and it worked! I had to joke with him and said alright now mister you got to give me credit, a woman figured it out for a change, not you. He said alright, I'll give you that, jokingly. But seriously thank you so much. This video saved me and my kids from another day of being stuck in the Florida heat. You are the best.
Steph, you should've called me, I too live in FL and know all about the FL heat...lol
Next time that happens I sure will

The "generator" was a high voltage power supply for air ionizing. The single red wire you called a thermistor was actually a carbon fiber "brush" emitter. It lets out negative ions to help purify air. Good job on bypassing the bad board...you could always add a simple thermostat into it to make it "automatic" again.
Have you got a video up showing us how to add a simple thermostat please?
What a coincidence, i had the same brand (frigidaire) and less than a year nothing was working, it wouldn't start ...so i called frigidaire and after back and forth, they gave me a frigidaire gift card for 289 or so , so i left it in my garage bc i didn't want to throw it away , after a year or so , i decided to plug it in and see , well guess what it started to run , i was so happy, idk what could have happened but it was in my garage for over a year , now it is laying down on a table in garage and every once in a while i crank it up .
I didn't know how to wire it like you, but if it stopped i will go back and watch your video and probably try to bypass....and fix it
Tks for all your videos
Always by the ones with knobs. All those electronics always goes bad.
@@sherwinalvarez7365 they don't make the manual kind in big window unit, i have 14 rent houses and all have central ac units but i decided to install some wall and window units in everyone of them too so it helps with cooling ( we are in monroe Louisiana and gets hot and all the houses are Townhouse and heat rises and gets hot i put a 12000 btu upstairs and a 12000 btu Downstairs in the wall, but one of the units had ( frigidaire) and it end up bad , i hardly put frigidaire most are Kenmore, so that's why i probably won't buy frigidaire for tenants, i like Kenmore and lg bc they both are the same .
I appreciate the video .
Take care my friend ✌
I did a similar thing many many years ago to the crappy portable AC i have in my shed. Had all this digital control stuff which died after couple of years. I ripped it all out and just put a contactor in its place. Then i just use a cheap thermostat to control it. It actually works better than it originally did as i could put the thermostat on the other side of the room so it gets a much better temp reading for the whole room
That's exactly what I'm trying to do. My ac cool great but is getting water in the circuit board and starts going Bo kers after a few minutes of use and often just shuts off randomly. How can you tell what wires to connect to the thermostat?
Awesome! Repair find . Process of elimination. Way to go, all you need is a plug in timer and you have your automatic On/Off
Thats a great & simple idea right there. Could also put in a line voltage thermostat or install a transformer with a low voltage stat. Thanks for watching!
This video is straight gas man! Keep up the talented work JMT. Glad that unit didn't blow up after startup I was mad nervous 🤣
Thank you! Much appreciated🙏 Glad it didn't blow up either haha It's alive! Thanks for watching & stay tuned for new videos every week🔧⚡️
I got another Fridgidaire like yours. No power. The plug-in GFD was shorted. I hooked it up, and the entire worked. The system was full of mold. I took it apart, washed the system, and the smell was gone. I've held it in my window at 3 years. It cools well.
It was free. The neighbors were pissed,
😂 We're in lovely, humid South Louisiana. Which State are you in? Job well done👍
Perfect for the cantina 🍷
Nicely done, JMT. Great spot there - ahh, quiet area.
Haha 🥂 Thank you! Nice little chill spot to work in. Thanks for watching & stay tuned for new videos every week! 🔧⚡️
Bruh .. u da man !!. I have EXACT UNIT and did exactly what you did !!. Thanks brother !! GOD BLESS !!
Nice hotwire job! That black box that looked like a capacitor is probably an ionizer/ozone generator , for helping keep the unit free of mold etc.
You should put all the controls you take out in a box and keep them. One day you may have the time and/or skills to fix 'em!
Thank you! That's interesting. Never heard of that control. I got rid of all the controls and gave this AC away to someone who didn't have one 👍 Thanks for watching & stay tuned for new videos every week 🔧⚡️
It worked beautifully!!! Thank you so much for the great video. Going to use Inline thermostat to complete the system. GOD bless, JC
This guy is sharp as a tack! a very fast wire stripping technique as well!
My Kenmore has the same exact build! Stopped working after a teardown washdown. I used electrical cleaner on the control board, that worked for a day, then it acted up again. The thermostat readout started to act crazy, then stopped showing; at that point, the whole control panel was not effective. The fan would operate, but not the compressor. Will check the other controls or hot-wire like you did.
Put that in a small insulated shed with a Johnson thermostat control and have a refrigerated room. Good tutorial!
I used to make a little extra money when I was in trade school fixing dehumidifiers and window ac units. All you really need is some bullet valves for the most part. Most were leaking and easy to fix.
Interesting and helpful video. Thanks for sharing JMT.
You're very welcome & thank you! Stay tuned for new videos every week🔧⚡️
What will keep it from freezing up since it will run continuously? Will it never get below a set point? Good video for the common working man. Thanks!
the test button on the gcfi ;)
@@james6794 duh, which way'd he go George, huh, huh
If the temperature is hot enough it will not freeze up. The fan should run 24/7, just the compressor needs an on/off switch.
Great video. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. I had the idea but my problem was neutral and you really solved for me. Someone was had for sale a portable unit which is very much with the same features that the one on the video. My question will be can I install a ceiling fan speed switch with the capacitor (the black rectangular for ceiling fans) that way I can switch speeds?
Such a great Tech and inspiration bro great video!!!
Thank you very much Robert. Really appreciate the kind words & support. Stay tuned for next week!
Jmt man you got time for every fix Great job
Dedication & discipline haha Thank you!
If this was old school rotary dial thermostat and fan controls it would still be in the window of its owner rather than tossed to the curb.
Good video but, I didn't see the teaching to discharge the duel capacitor, so people aren't shocked touching it, capacitor does retain energy .
My control board went dead too.. I just bought a 24vac powered coil relay to control my fan and compressor to my ecobee thermostat.. I have 2 relays, one goes to G for fan to my fan and the other to compressor from y1 to thermostat and works great, how I'm getting main power is from my hydronic boiler system..
Love it bro keep them coming bro , great 👍🏻 video like always
Glad you love & enjoy the videos! Really appreciate the support & comments. Stay tuned for next week!
You got me fixed brother great video
I'd like to see you wire in a Temperature controller. I've seen others wire power directly to the compressor and then plug the compressor into a Temperature controller. This was a great video but would like to see a little more precise bypassing of the controls. Specifically, I want to bypass the thermistor and run a temperature controller so that you can use AC to go way lower than its normally allowed
LOVE IT. VERY GOOD BROTHER!!! SOUNDS LIKE something i would do. Except at the end i always have a saying. IM ALL THAT IS MAN!!!!😂
great video & troubleshooting skills🌟
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. Stay tuned for 2 new videos next weekend! 🔧⚡️
Cut hot and neutral from the board to the cap. Cut the speeds from the board. Pick a speed tie it to the hot from the plug and the cap; tie the neutrals together. Plug’er in.
Excelente trabajo ,
Excellent explanation 😊my brot I love learn more more
Gracias! Thank you very much 🙏 Everydag learn something new & you'll go far. Stay tuned for new videos every week🔧⚡️
I love this channel! Keep up the good work sir!
What I want to know is how to rig up a home thermostat. This was very helpful but there's no way for it to turn off other than to u plug it so it'll just keep on cooling until it's as cold as it can get. I'm assuming it'll need a relay and the relay will need a power supply. Maybe 2 relays if you want to keep the fan running all the time or have it shut off when the compressor does
Quick question do you have to remove power from the start lead for the compressor and fan after it gets up and running? Thanks,
Because it couldn’t possibly low refrigerant..
does that defeat the purpose of the capacitor? if its not charged, its just starting on line power right? maybe it even makes the surge power on start even greater because its also charging the capacitor while also trying to start the compressor?
Do you have a diagram for wires on a 240 volts
Got a 24-volt thermostat and get a contactor and a 24-volt transformer and turn it into a digital one
That was a great video
Hey buddy how can you connect with a thermostat and heat sequence

I have that same ac. It isn't cooling and the compressor is very hot. Is that normal that the compressor is so hot?

Can you show me how to do a 240 volt window unit ,hot wire
You are gonna need a tstat for that thing or it will ice up. Something has to break the compressor.
A line voltage stat would work. Or you'll need a transformer, a contactor & a low voltage stat. Or you could just turn it off when you feel comfortable manually 😂 Thanks for watching & stay tuned for new videos every week🔧⚡️
Me as soon as I hear “hot wire “… f this shi I’m out . 😂
Subbed tho. 👀
if i send somebody pics of my acunit could u tell me what wires go where?
I hope i wired it correctly!
All you got to do is put common side the power cord to common on the cap and the other wire a speed and compressor RUN wire. Dont over thank it cuz. PawPaw
Awesomeness
Manual mounted control's temp speed on & off switch
Ask a question about mya to
AOTHER HOUSE FIRE SOMEONE SCREWING AROUND WITH WIRING
Can the same principle apply to a mini split unit (non inverter )
Yep
👍
👍👍👍🤙🔧⚡️🇺🇲
Just run fan and compressor directly 1 by 1. It will take 1min to troubleshoot
"We don't need no stinkin' controls!" (wasn't that a line in an Al Pacino movie?) But seriously, control circuits are overated. So many little electronic components and if one of them goes bad you're SOL!
Maybe you should have worked it out before you started filming.
😮what about a 220 how do I hot wire it board is out
Just figure out the wiring for the compressor and fan.
Some idiot hit mine a few times on the back vent panal? Now it turns on but won't blow anything out. Anyone have any help or ideas?
It would have been good to have done this and be able to report how well it worked over time. Did the evaporator ice up? And you would have been more concise if you knew before you taped this what wires were what. Wouldnt waste so much everybodies precious time.
It would be really easy to install a tstat on the return 😆 xfmr/relay/stat
