Was the Dell truly thermal throttling? Or was it just the turbo duration expiring? Intel XTU doesn't let you set an unlimited turbo duration from what I remember, but XTU should at least let you set a longer turbo duration. Either way, without the unlimited turbo that pretty much every motherboard in a custom built system will set, the Dell system will almost certainly still lose.
Thats probably what it is. Intel XTU is limiting the turbo. During testing the turbo only lasted a couple seconds. Once the cpu hit 80c it would throttle down to 4.1ghz. I will have to mess with it some more.
AMD historically has been known to be cheaper than Intel. I wouldn’t say smoother or better performance. But honestly, a lot of it comes down to preference. It also depends what specific CPU’s you’re comparing.
