This is why all 4 movies are required viewing. In the 1st, Riggs joins Murtaugh's family. In the second, Leo joins them. The third adds Lorna, and the fourth cements it all and gives them a happy ending as one big family with new generations born. Riggs went from a suicidal burnout to a new husband and father.
This is the movie that introduced Jet Li to American movie audiences so that fact for a Hong Kong movie fan like myself it was a very happy moment when Jet finally started to get the recognition worldwide that he deserved.
I'd go so far as to say that lethal weapon 4 and jet Li's performance led to a Renaissance of Hong Kong films and Hong Kong films in the West boosted by Western investment and distribution. Giving us Crouching Tiger hidden Dragon, Hero, House of flying daggers, Ipman etc. Even Jackie Chan prolific and well-known as he was benefitted
Started with a man who was "too old for this shit" and another who was suicidal. they both ended up with more family than they ever thought they'd have.
Everyone reacts to Leo showing up at Riggs' wife's grave the same way. First, "Dammit, Leo. Now's not the time" and then it's tears. Great scene. An underrated one among Joe Pesci performances.
This has always been my favorite of the bunch. It brings together a lot of dangling threads from the other three: Riggs finally makes peace with the death of his first wife and remarries. There are two babies born. Leo's touching speech at the grave and then how he is included as "family" (perhaps as a crazy uncle). Lots of action and lots of humor. What's not to love. Great reaction. ❤☮
One of the reasons that this movie has perhaps the best action sequences of the franchise is due to the involvement of the Hong Kong crew. The mid-to-late 90s was when Hollywood began recruiting established Asian talents like Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, Chow Yun-fat, John Woo, Yuen Woo-ping (fight choreographer of The Matrix & Kill Bill), etc... A key contributor behind-the-scenes was choreographer Corey Yuen, who was a classmate of Jackie's and directed many of Jet's 90s action flicks.
I also like that a lot of the actors who played henchmen in this film and even the guy who ran off that Butters arrested have been in numerous action films. That guy was also in Tango and Cash who tried to kill Cash near the beginning and they had that chase sequence in the parking garage.
The first two are literally classic movies. Then... the movies just got bad. This one is an example. Over the top, overlong, awkward. I remember seeing it in the cinema. People were walking out....!
@@elcorado83 I remember seeing this in the cinema and people were having a great time. There is even a video featuring a 1998 crowd reaction to the fight scene in Murtaugh's house, and everyone was cheering.
I always loved how this movie (and franchise) ended with the photo of everyone together as a family. But I never realized how it also bookends not just the movie itself but the series with how it starts with an encounter in the rain and ends with an encounter in the rain but also the fact that the first movie ended with a fight in “rain”, too. And yes, despite being an action series, one of my favorite moments was Leo’s monologue at the end about his frog.

Number 4 is my fav- the plots are far more involved and intricate than in the previous three movies... closely followed by 3, then 2, then 1- but the whole movie franchise is just fantastic, you immediately feel comfortable with all the loyalty, banter, tricks that the Murtaugh/Riggs/Getz/Butters families all feel for each other and the addition of Jet Li was genius, as soon as it was announced (in 1997) that the new Bruce Lee would been in epic battle with Riggs & Murtaugh in the new up-coming movie; everyone ran to the cinema to watch it :P

Now that you’ve seen the Lethal Weapon films I hope you’ll check out the movie Maverick (1994) also starring Mel Gibson and directed by Richard Donner, a western comedy based off the Maverick tv series. Love your reactions!
I remember seeing Lethal Weapon 4 @ 10pm Sunday showing. I absolutely love the entire series. They all are constant rewatches. This is my all-time favorite tandem. It's Murtaugh/Riggs -> Mulder/Scully : X-Files -> Hunter/Mccall: Hunter -> Elliot/Olivia: SVU -> Harm/Mackenzie: JAG -> Rita/Chris: Silk Stalkings. Glad to see you enjoyed the movie.
Fun fact, the actual car they drive through the building at 21:38 they had on display at the Warner Bros Movie world theme park in Australia at the Gold Coast Queensland. They even had a roller coaster called Lethal Weapon. This was like 20+ years ago, probably not there anymore.

I have watched this movie so many times and I love it, but it always reminds me of 9/11 2001. I was around 14 then and everybody in our class had to spend a week as an "intern" in some real work place, just to get the experience. I ended up in a electronic repair centre for devices under warranty. The guy I was with was fixing DVD-players if they had issues (often the laser had to be swapped). In order to check the players worked, we used to put the Lethal Weapon 4 DVD on them and let them play the whole movie. So that week I watched this movie several times per day! It was then that on their huge screen we saw the news about World Trade Center. Everybody were gathered around the huge screen and watched in shock when we saw the second airplane, live, crashing into the building. (This was in Northern Europe). So this movie always reminds me of that day.
I hope you guys watched through the "photo album" at the end . . . . great captures of scenes and the crew behind all these films. It's just sucjh a great bit of nostalgia for those of us who watched these over 10 years. I think you coud appreciate it.
Shane Black writes the best buddy cop dynamics. He also wrote Kiss Kiss Bang Bang 💋 (LOVE this movie) The Nice Guys & The Last Boyscout if you want to see more. I really love Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory and Edge of Darkness.
I really love that Michael Kamen scored both Lethal Weapon & Die Hard franchises it makes me think of them together as great cop action movies that have such longevity and ability to pick up new fans all the time. Thanks for doing the whole franchise and I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. Not requested an action movie in ages so I'll throw in 'Hard Target' & 'Last boy Scout' again, as entertaining action romps.
Not surprised, as the musical score for both LW and DH franchises sound very similar. The musical score played in LW3 when Jack was trying to escape the ice hockey arena while Riggs and Roger was looking was the same one played in DH1 when John McClaine was setting up the C4 on the chair, tied down by the computer before throwing down the elevator shaft.
@@Renegade2786 Yeah like some James Horner scores from 80's (48hrs, Commando, Aliens, Red Heat, Another 48hrs), the similar tones just trigger your memory of other films, but you love those films and sounds so it's all good. 😀
There's just no way one can pick a part of this series which is better than the other. All these movies are just great. They kept exploiting the original ingredients : action & humor packed, cool villains, explosions, car crashes... tons of awesome stunt work all of it being like a fountain of creativity. Certainly one of my favorite action/comedy sagas.
I love that the movies aren't just isolated adventures. Each one builds on what came before, adding new characters along the way. Plus the fact that they didn't recast ANY of the parts. Often, they will recast the kids as the characters get older, but the same three played Roger's kids through all four movies. If they do actually make a fifth one, I hope they bring back as much of the cast as possible. Well, the ones that make sense to the story. I don't want them to shoe-horn the kids into the film just for the sake of having them make an appearance.
I've been waiting for this! It wraps up the series SO well! In the first movie, we meet Riggs and Murtaugh individually, and by the end, Riggs is no longer "suicidal", and they are cemented as partners. In 2, We meet Leo Getz, and HE joins the team (kinda), in 3, we meet Lorna, her and Riggs end up getting together, and Leo is cemented as part of the team. In 4, we meet Butters, who joins the family, as well. The photo at the end of the extended LW family just cements how families can be chosen (no, not the guy from Cobra Kai). Also, Leo as "the strangest angel" Victoria Lynn could have picked.... I get emotional with that... because I had a similar experience when my first wife (who died of cancer in 2006) chose a similar "strange angel" to send me a message.
Them winning over Jet Li aside, the rest of the movie is satisfying the end speech by Joe Pesci is so well done as is Mel Gibson final hug and acceptance of Leo. The end picture was nice for the fans who came each addition to the franchise. Love the breakdown of what you both liked and loved from the film. Thank you both for the upload :)
The first movie in the series is legendary and is the best but for me this movie is the most fun. Joe Pesci and Chris Rock are hilarious and great together. Jet Li is brutal. I have so much fun every time I watch this. I think it's because I love over the top action. Fast and Furious is one of my favorite movie series. I simply love that kind of action.
Such a good one, loved how jet Li was the bad guy and still enjoy his films. Nice reaction guys. Driving through the building and landing back on the freeway is the best scene.
OH YEAHHHH, THE CHOREOGRAPHY OF THE FIGHTS WERE SO AMAZINGGGLY GOOD!😊 AND ALLLLLL THE ONE LINERS, LOADED WITH COMEDY AND OF COURSE ALL THE GREAT ACTION. 😊GLAD YOU GUYS LOVED THIS AWESOME ACTION SERIES!
The only thing that bothers me about this movie is the highway chase scene. It was filmed in Las Vegas cuz we just got a big empty roundabout of a freeway that goes around the whole city. And I can't unsee that.
A fifth film titled Lethal Weapon Finale is in the works at the moment. Richard Donner started it, yet when he passed away last year, Gibson took over the project
You guys need to watch more Jet Li movies, he's baddas like Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan. Recommend 'Forbidden Kingdom', 'Hero', 'Kiss of the Dragon', 'Shaolin Temple', 'Once upon a time in China' , 'Fist of legend'.
I remember going to the theater for this one at 16. I had watched 1 and 2 a ton and being a bit disappointed at this one but also loving the grand am scene plus the ending and getting so nostalgic
If I remember right this fourth film was incredibly chaotic because they didn't have a finished script when they started filming and changes were constantly being made throughout the production. Despite that the movie holds up well with all the others (I personally put it in the top two of the series).
This is actually my favorite Lethal Weapon. Jet lee was just a stellar big bag. Like a proper ass kicking threat. And it think this was really the introduction of Jet Li to the American audience.
They have announced a LW5, but while it is supposed to start filming this year, there are still some issues getting ironed out. Richard Donnor was going to direct again, but died during pre production and wanted Mel Gibson to direct in the even that happened. Apparently there were some issues with people wanting to allow that, but I believe it is all worked out now. Not going to be a theater release, but there have been decent movies released on streaming services recently. LW series has always been great, but I love LW4 the most out of all of them because I originally watched it during prime influence mode when it first came out in 98 as a kid in middle school and have always liked hand to hand sequences so adding Jet Li was the chef's kiss for the franchise to me. I think that having the family aspect of the film, while always present, extended to this amount of characters also helped. LW was good at introducing the larger cast and their storylines, but still having plenty for Riggs and Murtaugh to do.
I cannot tell you how much I ADORE watching you guys. I get so excited when I see a new video notification from your channel. You have helped so many people.
I'm not sure this is the best Lethal Weapon film, but it is my favorite. I really like the scene in which Jet Li's character takes off the slide assembly of the gun while Riggs is holding it. It is actually possible to do this, but it's probably not a very practical method of unarmed defense against a handgun (the tough part would be to push back the slide to take the gun out of battery before the guy holding it pulls the trigger). I think that for the film, they just removed the take-down lever so that the slide would just slide off the frame (and obviously didn't load the gun), but I really want it to be true that Jet Li was able to do it for real. If you like the Lethal Weapon series and Richard Donner's direction, you might like "Maverick." It also stars Mel Gibson along with Jodie Foster and James Garner (who played the title role in the original TV show).
Action movies in the 80s and 90s were just BETTER than they are now. That's a generalization of course; there were some terrible 80s-90s actions movies and there are some great actions movies today. I'm also biased because I grew up in that era. But the most successful ones in the previous decades actually had good storylines to them. They were well developed scripts with lots of character development, good chemistry between the actors, and were very well directed films. There weren't just mindless action movies that depended on the budget to blow everything up or have bad CGI like so many films now. They were still "action movies" back in the day and didn't require you to think too hard, but they also didn't make you roll your eyes at the absurdities, contrived situations, poor acting, bad dialogue, major plot holes, and completely ignoring the laws of physics. You could actually take these movies seriously because they were intelligently written and professionally directed and acted. You could suspend your disbelief at even some of the over the top stunts because they were so well executed and believable. And they built comradery between the characters so you had an invested interest in the progression of their story. This to me is what makes these classic actions movies popcorn films that were a bunch of fun and still hold up.
I agree, 4th is better than 3 and 2 for me. The introduction of Jet Li was absolutely mind blowing. Here u have a small Asian dude, and he's so fast. Even behind the scenes, Mel just couldn't believe how fast Jet was.
One of the reasons this movie franchise did so well is because they ad-lib the entire series.... Every time you see the conversation between rigs and merge all its open conversation, meaning their banter back and forth are completely unscripted.
I also love that they made it so it was two on one because It's fricken Jet Li and in reality yeah, you'd need more than one. And Riggs is supposed to be a good fighter. But not Jet Li, assassin level killing. I love that they did that and presented Jet Li as just like bad ass dangerous.
For me Lethal Weapon started great but each sequel got better and better. Lethal Weapon 4 is the best for me and a perfect fnale. And I agree... these movies are so heartfelt, which makes them work so amazingly. Lets see how part 5 will turn out
I'm so glad you loved this one! It does wrap it all up beautifully. Very few movies series are this good and stay this good all the day through for every last one. Jet Lee was a fantastic choice to bring power and gravity to the final villain. And a great choice to bring in hand to hand martial arts to drive the nail in that it's time to accept and celebrate that they're too old for this shit after all. Thinking of retirement, I'm actually reminded of the wonderful action comedy film RED and it's sequel, where a stacked cast of older actors play retired spies dragged out of retirement for one last mission. It's lead by Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman and John Malkovich, and they have a fantastic time ripping it up and being just as sexy as people a third their age.
Going back to the first movie, the fight scene between Riggs and Joshua wasn’t in the rain. If you recall the cop that Joshua shot when he arrived to the Murtaugh house rolled down and hit a fire hydrant and water from that hydrant sprayed out. So it was the water from the hydrant and not rain they were fighting in
Now that you seen the first 3 movies you are ready to see Loaded Weapon the spoof on the franchise. Also you should see Jet Lee movies (The bad guy in this movie). He has some great movies as a hero like Fist Of Legend, The One , Romeo Must Die, Fearless, Kiss of the Dragon.
I am so pleased you guys got to this fim as quick as you did! I hate waiting a month, 6 months, maybe a year! before seeing a franchise sequel. You guys are great!
Lethal Weapon 1 Murtaugh had his 50th Birthday... so in this movie if it follows real life time, he's just turned 60, or is close to turning 60. In real life though in the first movie, Danny Glover had only just turned 41 when they were filming, meaning he was 51 in real life in Lethal Weapon 4.
I loved lethal weapon 4, it’s my favorite of the franchise, this was also the first film I ever saw Jet Li in, the action was stellar & the emotion at the end with Leo I think took everybody by surprise.
Lw4 the one with the froggy story. The plot of LW5 could use the time gap to its advantage like Topgun Maverick and have a story around Riggs son and or Murtaugh's grandson. Maybe you could get the handing of the baton type movie to the next generation of cops.

Not quite the same but It reminds me of Robert Patrick in T2 being too fast during the bike chase and he had to slow down his run to film the scene
That's actually more common for martial arts stars than you think. To this day, most movies are still shot at 24 fps.

One of the very few franchises where all movies are great.
Shane Black writes the best buddy cop dynamics.
He also wrote Kiss Kiss Bang Bang 💋 (LOVE this movie)
The Nice Guys & The Last Boyscout if you want to see more.
I really love Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory and Edge of Darkness.
It might be one of the best endings to a franchise, if not the best of all time. Roger and Martin fighting the final boss together....... so good!
They kept exploiting the original ingredients : action & humor packed, cool villains, explosions, car crashes... tons of
awesome stunt work all of it being like a fountain of creativity.
I don't want them to shoe-horn the kids into the film just for the sake of having them make an appearance.
an't wait for LETHAL WEAPON 5. they are in talks now to do the movie very soon. here's hoping it actually happens. R.I.P. Richard Donner 1930--2021
There is always Lethal Weapon 5 and 6 which takes place during Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Please consider National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon (1993).
You are going to love it!
But it was a end of a era how it turned out
Mel and Danny are approximately 66 abd 76, but they're characters are about 76 and 86.
A Classic! I wish more movies would be so well-written! I'm really interested in seeing what they come up with for number 5!
Thank You Thank You this was my favorite Lethal Weapon of all four. Thanks again.
Yes! I’ve been waiting for this… hope you guys liked it.
When the Shcmitts post a reaction video, I know it's going to be a good day.
A fifth film titled Lethal Weapon Finale is in the works at the moment. Richard Donner started it, yet when he passed away last year, Gibson took over the project
Now, it's time to watch the Lethal Weapon television series. Y'all going to LOVE it so much and there are three seasons of it before getting canceled.
If I recall correctly, this was Jet Li's first American film.
I watched this on cinema in 1998. Welcome to the Lethal family my sweet couple. Love your reviews.
This was Jet Li's first American movie. He barely spoke english. But gosh he plays a great villian.
He can speak English before but not like Jackie Chan
I remember going to the theater for this one at 16. I had watched 1 and 2 a ton and being a bit disappointed at this one but also loving the grand am scene plus the ending and getting so nostalgic
Jet Li is such a badass.
6:04 Jet Li's American film debut.
"Ransom" is another GREAT film starring Mel Gibson & Rene Russo. Please, please, PLEASE react to it. Thank you 💜
Ransom and Payback are both awesome Mel Gibson films!
You should check out Get the Gringo. Another solid Mel film
Great reaction! This is my favorite of all the lethal weapons. Like you said, it ends the franchise perfectly.
As you said the perfect ending for the series. It was incredible, I so remember seeing this in the theater. An amazing film.
Y'all be safe.
"It´s called rice, you plick!"
I have loved re-watching my favorite buddy cop franchise with you both! I KNEW you'd love them! Thank you so much!
This one was just simply FUN! The car chase on the freeway was so ridiculous!😅😅😂😂
I knew you two would like this one. My favorite one of the 4.
The best ever.
Da-da-da, four. Da-da-da, five. Da-da-da-- Oh. l messed up. Hang up. Gotta do it again 🤣📞
But it was more executed
Still have no idea why this movie is disliked so much. It’s probably the 3rd best in the franchise but I’ve probably seen it the most. Love jet li
Agreed, I like it more than the 3rd movie
@@shanenolan5625 3rd should be the weakest to everybody. Had the weakest villain by far
I agree, 4th is better than 3 and 2 for me. The introduction of Jet Li was absolutely mind blowing. Here u have a small Asian dude, and he's so fast. Even behind the scenes, Mel just couldn't believe how fast Jet was.
@@danskyl7279 but they can't do shaky cam to speed up
The real question is: When are you guys going to watch the hilarious, criminally underrated parody of the Lethal Weapon series, Loaded Weapon 1?
I´ve watched this one the most, so I guess it´s my favourite. Jet Li makes a great villain.
Lethal weapon 4 is underrated.
This is always my fav of the Lethal Weapon series because I’m a huge Jet Li fan.
My favorite film in this franchise. Great reaction! 👍🏿
Supposedly Mel Gibson is directing and Star in a fifth one with a working title ‘Lethal Finale’ for HBO Max.
Happy to be awake right now. Fair play!
This is my favorite in the entire franchise....
Both RED films are great. Where else can you see Helen Mirren using a mounted .50 caliber machine gun? She rocks.
I love this film and it has the best final boss fight scene of the series.
Best one in the series hands down. Jet Li was a demon in this.
Oh my God! Loaded Weapon is so funny! I hope they react to it. That would be awesome!
A actual choronical age
33:29: If they were really busting Leo's balls, they'd tell him to go home and get his shine box.
My 2nd favorite of the franchise, right next to the 1st one! This was also Jet Li's introduction to the world!
Oh. One of my friends back in college told me when this movie was coming out that the kid who played Ping was his little cousin!
