  • In this video we start before sunrise and finish after sundown. Join me for a day at my mountain camp in New Mexico.
    Thank you for being here.
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
    Thanks for watching!

Brian I used to be a mechanic at Penske. We had the same trucks as u hall. After resealing the front of the box if you still find a leak in the same place. Then reseal the outside edge of the box. Sometimes what happens is you get a leak and it will run the length of the box roof rail to the front and drip. It's a very common problem. With the leak between the cab and the box. Those seals wear out. It would be a good idea to check the box mounting bolts. They can loosen overtime causing the box to rock back and forth more leading to more leakes. If they are loose you may need to go to a shop to have them tightened. If you google morgan owners manual and maintenance the torque specifications are listed. Lastly, inspect the box mounting bushings. They wear out too and that can cause the box to shift as well. Morgan recommends those bolts and bushing be inspected once a year.

I've been watching your channel for years. I ordered one of your stickers early on and decided to save it for the day I got my own van. Well, this was the year. Upon opening the envelope I found a hand written note with a drawing of a van along with the sticker. I now have the sticker on my back glass and the personalized note card proudly displayed on the inside! I'm not ready to hit the road quite yet but travel as much as possible.

I've become a fan of 3M Window Weld (the stuff they use to hold windshields in place) as a sealer. It's tougher and longer lasting than things like Dicor. One minor drawback is that it's black, so if you want it to blend with the white van you need to paint it.

Hey Brian, love your vids! Short story...dicor should never be used as the ONLY line of defense imo!
Unsolicited advise re caulks for "sealing / waterproofing" purposes. After rving for 8 yrs Ive learned a few things from much more informed techs. If it were me I would consider using a true sealant like Geocel Pro Flex or similar products. Its a true water proof sealant as opposed to the typical popular 'lap sealants' which are meant to cover the permanent seals underneath such as Butyl tape etc. The lap sealants should NOT be your only line of defense from water intrusion, they do well to divert water away but not so good at actually 'sealing' and as we all know its a constant and regular maintenance job and easily overlooked when they fail and they do fairly quickly. Do some research on your own. Personally I dont use dicor or silicone anywhere on my rig especially since Ive re coated my fiberglass roof with a Pro rubberized coating. All my other seals and gaps below the roof that need attention is 100% Proflex. Two years + later all good. Look into it. I know rv mfgrs use dicor for everything but...we all know the short cuts and cost cutting methods they all employ. Im sure I'll get a lot of arguments but do yourself a favor and do some deeper research. Thanks Brian. Cheers

Right now I am in the Pacific Northwest living with on an island sharing a house with an elderly family friend in exchange for a room and bathroom I clean, cook, order most of our food delivered. When his is gone I would like to stay in the USA in a small town, but surrounded by nature in a small cabin or tiny house, with no extreme weather. I have been a fan of your channel since 2020. Do you have any suggestions for me to check out. I lived in a school bus with my husband for a few years in Northern CA. Then on a boat on lake union in Seattle for a few years. Now turning 70 and ready to try some places in the USA. Thanks Brian. Ask Kelly too. Or even a winter place and a summer place as a renter.
