This is a real thing happening to hermit crabs. Due to us humans taking sea shells from beaches and ocean floors, creatures like hermit crabs, who need to find shells to survive, are having trouble finding them. So they end up using various objects like plastic tips and anything with a hole that they can insert their fragile parts in, in hopes that they can survive. Obviously, they aren't fighting in combat, but this is still a real life issue that these hermit crabs are dealing with as we speak.
Yeah, its quite unfortunate, especially since the acidifying oceans also eat away at the underwater calcium shells, making it harder for hermit crabs to find ones good enough to house them
@@egbertmilton4003 I actually saw a video where this guy actually trying to help hermit crabs who don't have shells. Whenever he spots one, who would pick it up, place it in a bucket, along with a number of shells he has in his bag, and wait and see which one the hermit crab will claim as its new home. He even engraved the shells he's acquired to let people know that those shells were given to the hermit crabs as a gift from this man, as well as letting people know that they should, and hopefully do, stop taking shells from the beaches.
and on top of that, the hermit crabs sold as pets are taken directly from the wild too! a majority of them will die miserable deaths from wholly improper husbandry, but even those who DO get lucky and get picked up by one of the rare folks who have done their research and know to care for them (which differs greatly between land hermit crabs and sea hermit crabs too!), they still often die of shock from the trauma of being transported from their home and kept in awful pet store conditions. its hard out here for a crab :(
