  • Clips of the former WCOM-TV 68 Mansfield, Ohio from 1988-The original poster had recorded these from the Columbus area, some 60 miles South of Mansfield, which accounts for the poor quality..

COM Tv with such a crisp and clean picture. Coming from the tallest man made tv tower in Ohio at that time out of Butler, Ohio. I think it's been shortened and now WMFD channel 50.

Love the imagery of Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course at 3:58. This tune is so catchy...haha!

Problem with channel 68 was they were (technically) a Cleveland market station trying to penetrate the Columbus market.

Probably doesn't help how Mansfield is roughly halfway between Cleveland and Columbus seeing them on the map!

No. They switched to the Columbus DMA at the time. They flipped back to the Cleveland DMA after the station went under.

Since the other uploads are eight years old and this is more recent, I'll post here.Signal aside, I think one of their problems getting carried on Columbus area cable systems is that they mention Mansfield and don't mention Columbus at all. If they wanted to cover Columbus, they were going about it all wrong by not even being a Columbus station on the surface. As far as the signal, despite the high tower and directional signal, they were only at 2,510,000 watts. Shooting out a full five million might have helped.

"You and Me on Com-TV". Catchy tune. Too bad it didn't make it and went dark in 1989 according to Wikipedia. WMFD-TV has done better on 68.

WWFD-TV probably learned a lot form the failure of WCOM when it came to what position a station in the area needed to go.

    There's no network programming.

This was back when we had "independent" TV stations that would have to play whatever they could get.
