Just listened to the full album and I have to say Matt.. as a long time Trivium fan from the Ember/Ascendancy days I genuinely think this is the most amazing thing you have made in your life time. The artistic choices that blended together for this album in all its haunting, gothic, melancholic, powerful and beautiful destructive nature is such a welcome breath of fresh air to metal. Thank you so much for this masterpiece Matt and anyone that helped bring this to life!
I don't care what anyone says about this. It's literally the best thing I've ever heard from Heafy and beyond what I'd expected. I'm so much happier he made this his own thing rather than trying to pander to black metal purists. It won't get as big as Trivium, but I don't think it should either. This is art in the medium of music and I wish more and more musicians would branch out like this and am so happy Matt decided to. Also! I love that he chose a Japanese theme rather than going with something Scandinavian. It's just really unique shit and I can't stop watching this lol
@@anthonywest5992 I don't understand why black metal even needed to enter the conversation. Nothing about Trivium or this new thing is black metal. What am I missing here?
@@JasonEllingsworth because black metal is what the project started off intentions of being, but that changed over the ten years period. That’s what he was saying about it and that’s how I took it, but who knows, maybe I’m wrong about something
Really like this style of (clean) singing from Matt. Was totally unexpected when I first heard it on Nergals "Me and that man" project ("You will be mine", for anyone interested) and if I hadn't read it I would have never guessed it. Probably my favourite song so far from this record (have not listened to the full record, only the singles so far).
Yo... hasn't Matt Heavy been doing this for a long time with Trivium and whatnot? Will that man's brain slow down the creative juices? This is just wow!!! Way to fight and claw your way to the top of Mt. Metal sir!!!! Blessed to listen to your work for years and many more to come!!!!!
I just listened to this just because it was in my feed and it seemed like a cool name for a band. I listened to the song and it blew me away. I didn't even know it was Matthew from Trivium until after I finished looking at the video. I've never been a fan of Trivium, but I'm a fan of Ibaraki. Nice going Matthew! I have a new found respect for you as a song writer.
i think these cleans are good still if only he would have kept to singing only and had someone else cover the screaming if it was even a necessary addition
Once again, Sir Matt Heafy outdid himself. The entire record is a work of love, but this video specifically is on point. Great aesthetics, visuals... Reminded me a lot of those Samurai stories and movies. Thank you Matt for reminding us not to be ashamed of our culture (whatever it is) and teaching us how to properly embrace it. Such a solid start to IBARAKI and a strong AOTY candidacy. All I have to say regarding the album is... Arigato gozaimasu. Thank you for once again redefining the boundaries of Metal. You nailed it!!
People say this sounds like Trivium and I don't see that at all lol. This is something different entirely. It just so happens to feature the front man of Trivium.
Music truly touches my soul when it makes me cry. I don't feel sad, just can't handle the flow of emotions that music gives me. I have tears in my eyes everytime I listen to this. This is incredible, thank you.
Solid album! Musically creative, and heavy! This project is a fantastic response to how toxic the black metal community is and metal elitism as a whole. Matt wanted to do this album for more than a decade but didn’t due to the potential backlash from the elitists. You can tell just by listening to this album that he was intent on writing this record. Brilliant post black metal and a fascinating evolution for metal. Much love, Matt!
Heafy is a genius and this album kicks all the asses. Absolute masterpiece, the kind of music that makes me want to create something when I listen to it.
Third track I've binged in a row (after the Nergal and Gerard way ones) I think this is a cd for the car .... Damn fine Mr Heafy . Damn fine sir . Shades of Opeth with the cleans .
Sounds like a perfect mix of Matt Heafy’s influences, you can hear so much Emperor, In Flames, and even a slight bit of Heaven Shall Burn in this ibaraki project
I feel like if Opeth, In Flames, and Dillinger Escape Plan we're in a 3 way civil union and adopted, this is the child they would have chosen. Really well done Matt. I don't know what to call this new genre you have created, so I'll just call it Samuraicore lol. Awesome! I'm really digging this, I've listened to it 4 times in a row now. When is the tour? Bro, please tell me you're gonna take this Monster on tour! Please!

The album is good, but definitely not what I had imagined when I first heard he was doing a black metal album with Ihsahn. Sounds very much like a Trivium album Matt got to experiment on a bit more than normal
Based on this song anyway I wouldn't really call it black metal, yeah. Instrumentally its like experimental black metal. But the vocals are basically metalcore. Its fine though, because the music is pretty damn good.
As someone who's been into metal since I was a teenager I have always wanted to be more into the extreme parts of metal ive listened to a bunch but never really was as into it as I wanted to be but ever since trivium became my favorite metal band I've grown to love Matt's screams so much that it makes me enjoy heavier stuff a bit more and this album is definitely a great Segway into the more extreme side Ive been trying to get into for so long definitely gonna listen to this whole album a shit ton and hope he makes more of this in the future
That transition and calm verse has such strong "Opeth - Damnation" vibes. Amazing, well done!
Exactly what I was thinking
I think I'm even hearing a bit of a Morningrise vibe when Paolo comes in too!
felt the same here
@@Limulouse Enjoy! Anything Opeth is great :D
Completely ripped off opeth on the opening, even down to how the vocals are done, pathetic. Go return to trash trivium
Is easy to recognize the Ihsahn' spirit in all structures. He is a genius of production. Matt make the best decision.
This album is fantastic. Hope we get a video for Ibaraki-Dōji
