IBARAKI "RŌNIN" LYRICS
Featuring Gerard Way; Heidi, Ariadne, Angell,
& Ihsahn Tveitan Solberg
[Matthew Kiichi Heafy]
Still
I still feel you inside these broken bones
These scars are maps - legends foretold
My blade is weathered, covered with a coat
The blood of many I have poured
Down to the soil, my anger quenched the pain
Of ancient grounds that I have stained
The heads of many that will still be claimed
Are but warnings for the foes
Who try to capture everything of ours
Slaughtered people, slaves to starve
Skies, be my witness I will rid the earth
Of the scourge who took our blood
Standing on the plains
I am taken away
Carried through the gates
I will avenge my name
This rage shall not be tamed
[Gerard Way]
Our lands are threatened by an invisible force
The concept of hatred: both spoken and verse
Plaguing the people - it poisons the mind
Teaching to hate that which is not their "kind"
Not one with the undead
Nor fodder for the live and fiending
I'm a challenger of every horde
That would try to live by loathsome reason
Take me back to the times when it was safe
Back where the rivers flowed, free by the lakes
[Matthew Kiichi Heafy]
Standing on the plains
I am taken away
Carried through the gates
I will avenge my name
This rage shall not be tamed
[Gerard Way]
Our lives are challenged by an invulnerable swarm
They know only hatred, fear, and discourse
Gathering strength so that I may defeat
These monsters whose minds are corrupt with disease

"'A rōnin is a masterless warrior," shares Kiichi. "The final two full compositions on Rashōmon see a significant shift musically. The album as a whole - with the exception of the intro and outro - is actually presented in chronological order of earliest written to latter-most. The actual guitar and bass tracks are a time-capsule of sorts in that their parts - on the final album - is actually from the year they were tracked."
He continues, "One can begin to see the shifts as the years went on for the writing of the album. 'Kagutsuchi'/'Ibaraki-doji' being written and tracked in 2010/2011, all the way up to 'Rōnin'/'Susanoo No Mikoto' being written and tracked in 2016/2017."
As for his collaboration with Way, Kiichi shares, "Gerard Way has been a long-time inspiration for me - like Ihsahn and Nergal - I have looked to Gerard as a constant source of motivation to be creative. While Gerard and I may be from different genres than where Ibaraki and black metal stem from - outsiders of sorts - the spirit and intent of our performances is what unites our passion for pushing boundaries."
"Gerard did all the screams on this song. Ihsahn is on the solo. Ihsahn’s family on the “whoa oh’s”. Yours truly on singing. Alex Bent on drums."

Absolutely. As somebody who is not an MCR fan (nothing against them just not my kind of music) it was all the more shocking to hear those screams from Gerard. He sounds like a DEMON.
This is testament on how singers can be able to do more within their voice their only limitation being the genre their band is in or the type of songs they aim to make. I always knew Gerard can scream but at this level of intensity is what I think surprised many. I got a similar feeling when we found out that Phil Bozeman (Whitechapel) can sing fantastic cleans. No singer's voice is limited it all depends on how you use it and if it matches the song.
Also what makes a great artist. Knowing when and where to highlight certain talents and not make ur music a salad of techniques
Yeah, MCR was aiming for mainstream audiences and radio time so they probably cut a lot of the heavier stuff from their demos during their career
@@eihodge I'd say a lot of what they aimed for and what the label wanted them to aim for is why we got what we got, and why the earlier stuff was heavier.

Just Gerard Way can to sing "So Happy Together" so perfect and after to do this. I love the video!!! Is the first time I watch a musical video that breaks the 4th Wall like you did!! Amazing job!!
Me he vuelto a enamorar de Way.
No es “un señor de 44años” es EL SEÑOR de 44 años, ojalá My Chemical Romance ya saqué su nuevo álbum pronto
I can't believe how good this sounds. Really impressed. 🙂👍
You got me at Heafy's IBARAKI... Gerrard and Ihsahn are the cherrys on top
Gerard sings so awesome and beautiful in this. Love it 😍 ❤️❤️.
Everyone confused at Gerard screaming need to listen to their first album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
Previously the most dramatic walk through a Sunoco for beef jerky...
Matt, I'm honestly mind blown! Your musical ability just keeps storming on! What the actual heck! I LOVE all the layers in this, and the collaborations you include, always a surprise - Mike Shinoda, Gerard Way, wwhhaattt?! Awesome. You Sir, are honestly a musical genuis. Very grateful to be able to listen to what you create, and can't wait to see you on stage in the UK 🙏❤🌍
¡Estoy fascinada! 🤘🏼
Gerard Way...
i can't fucking believe those are gerard's screams BRO THIS IS SO PERFECT
When I heard Ihsahn was in this, I was super hyped but I never suspected hearing Gerard Way doing screams in my life until today. Like if you told me that Gerard would do screams in the future, I would not believe you
He did some pretty solid harsh vocals in MCRs early days but NOTHING like this before
I'd have expected screams. Old school black metal screams? Now that was a new one. And as for the other commenter we all knew there'd be some chucklefuck crying about how somebody here isn't as heavy as before. There's so fucking much more to metal than being heavy. Get over it.
I legit listened to the song till the end waiting for hear Gerard's singing but it never came and i was like wtf, then i read that it's Gerard doing the screaming parts. I have been a fan of Gerard Way for 15 years and I had no idea he can do black metal screams. Holy shit.
Clearly you arnot a fan he did this type of scream since Bullets
@@yetaro_ his screams pretty bad back then tho
@@hazuusan well he was just starting out back then. he has matured and developed technique over the years. experience and time.
@@yetaro_ lol gerard did not scream like this in bullets doofus
Feels like opeth. Especially the key changes during singing.
The ending is pure Opeth vibes, I never thought Matt could sound like that!
Imagine MCR redebut album will have Black metal/ Doom metal style
As much as I respect Gerard, coming in I was a bit worried how this would turn out stylistically. Gerard...you killed it, in a great way. Massive props, to everyone, and great song all around \m/
Fucking everything Gerard touches is magical. I'm falling down this rabbit hole again
I didn't think the world was ready for a crossover like this.
All my teenage emo, and now metal heart mature dreams, are true on this song, Gerard, I always be your slave. 🖤
Damn the transition of cleans of Matt Heaft from Screams of Gerard gave me goosebumps.
I know everyone is loving Gerards vocals but listen to the music ibarki has released. It's like older heavy trivium which, to this day, still gives me chills. Love you heafy.
Bury me in black- life on the murder scene. It’s TOTALLY GERARD YALL omfg
I hope Gerard Way does a Black metal or metalcore project one day, it would be brutal
