I'm having the same issue with my 91 firebird I changed the entire distributer and fixed my problem it was the pick up coil so go a Lil deeper in your distributor

Hey mind if i ask what symptoms you experienced? I have trans am gta, with the same motor you got, the symptoms i got are misfire badly at low idle, and backfiring when im driving, and it wont let me get past 40mph and 3rpm. I already changed my ignition control module. And i took the old one to get it tested, they said the old one had corrosion thay could of come from moisture. Do you think you have clues to what it might be?

You might need an entire new distributor. I had similar symptoms years ago in my GTA

The only way you're going to mess with the timing is by listening the bolts on the manifold and turning the distributor you would be advancing it or retarding the timing. The ICM is a 5.5 mm socket, I'd recommend using the super lube dielectric silicone grease might be a little pricey but you don't have to worry about the other stuff, I'm not particular on those type of rotors thous.
AC Delco ignition control modules and ignition coil are your best bet. 7.5 mm MSD spark plug wires with pulsar spark plugs.

So u dont have to mess with the distributor timing if your just replacing the ignition control module and cap and rotor right ?

I have a 1999 Camaro 3.8l... my car was driving fine then one day it just cut off wouldn't cut back on. I bought a new battery and drove for maybe 2 weeks then it cut off again. This time it just cranks no start though. Thought it was the fuel pump but I have a new pump so. What could it be?? When I first bought the car the check engine light would come on and go off some days it would stay one some days it wouldn't. Had it for about 2 months now it won't even turn on just cranks what's could this problem be??
