  • Today’s guest on the Danger Close Podcast with Jack Carr is retired U.S. Army Infantry captain Sean Parnell.
As a 10th Mountain Division soldier, Sean served in some of the heaviest combat of the Afghan War.
Join Jack and Sean as they discuss Sean’s 485 days of fierce fighting on the Afghan-Pakistan border in 2006-2007 and key leadership take-aways from Sean’s time in service.
They also discuss Sean’s two congressional runs and the power, money and manipulations at play from at home and abroad on the U.S. political system.
Sean captured his experiences in Afghanistan in the New York Times bestselling book Outlaw Platoon (amzn.to/3UEeitl) and is currently the host of the Sean Parnell Battle Ground Podcast, which airs daily at 5pm EST.

I worked with Sean's father; I remember him carrying around Sean's book when it came out telling everyone. He was extraordinarily proud of his kids.

I was doing land nav training (with the US Army) in Big Bear, CA. when 9/11 happened. Based out of Ft. Irwin, CA (NTC). We were stuck outside the gate for hours. They searched the whole bus and finally let us on to our own base. Saw the footage once we got to our barracks rooms that night.

Excellent interview! Read the book, but got to put a face to it! Thank you both for your service.. even from The Netherlands. You guys keep us safe even when our own politicians aren’t able to put in the meager 2% of GDP for defense spending to keep Europe safe..!!

I am actually reading "Outlaw Platoon" now, and have two other of Sean's books. Though I just started it, I'm already loving the dynamics between him and his men.

Crazy story we got extended during our 05-06 deployment to Iraq because of the surge. We had guys in the same situations it was nasty and our brigade lost 5 guys after the extension.

I read Outlaw Platoon when it came out. Great book, and I like hearing Sean's stories firsthand. That being said, can someone please tell him to not use the word "like" so much when he talks. It reminds of listening to 80's Valley Girl. Seriously bud. You've got to make a mental note of it when speaking publicly. Your upbeat tempo and enthusiasm are great, but you say "like" almost every third word.

All these military broadcasters could devote a week to the definition of an insurrection and why J6 was just a peaceful march that turned into a riot. Not an insurrection. They could respectfully frame the narrative on J6 and use it as a fulcrum for a better truth. But I don't think these blogs are mission coordinated. Most are NIMBY operations. That's fine and maybe a good choice but it neglects the national reach the internet has.
