Thank you for the added bonus of a bout of the heavyweight Ernie Schaaf in one of his early professional bouts. He was a stablemate of Jack Sharkey and later fought Tommy Loughran and Max Baer. Tragically, he succumbed to injuries that was incurred upon him by Max Baer in their second out. The extent of the damage came to light after his bout with Primo Carnera. He was dropped, from a light blow, in the thirteenth round of that bout and died that evening. By all accounts of contemporary sportswriters of the 1930s, he was seen as a superb prospect for the heavyweight crown.
I think I have a fair educated guess at what fight follows the O’Dowd-Gibbons film: Possibly Ernie Schaaf vs. Murray Gitlitz, fought on the undercard of the fourth Jack Sharkey vs. Jimmy Maloney fight, 5/20/1927, at Yankees Stadium....? Schaaf is the lighter-haired in the lighter colored trunks.
My dad told me that he's my great great Uncle. So one less great, there's also a story of O'Dowd sitting in a bar in Minneapolis and someone came in trying to rob the place and Mike kicked the guy's ass.
FLEABOXING.....Do you know who the fighters are in the film after the conclusion of O’Dowd-Gibbons? I’m wracking my brain and I can’t figure it out. And.....your films are AMAZING! Thanks for posting!
Mike O'Dowd was my dad's cousin. My grandma and Mike's mom were sisters. When Mike came out to visit us in Vallejo, CA, a few years before he passed, I submitted him in an MMA fight in our living room. Of course, I was only 5 years old. LOL!
According to the records I've seen, these two met three times with O'Dowd winning two of them and losing one to Gibbons. I show none of them being 'ND'. Which fight was this? Thanks.
Jose Santiago ...Exactly MY question! It looks like the Polo Grounds ring, but then again it could be Yankee Stadium. I’m guessing 1925-1929, and they look like light heavyweights or bigger. The dark haired fighter has a monogram on his trunks; it looks like. “CH” or “HC” and he looks like he might be foreign (to the U.S.) I couldn’t recognize the referee, and that would have given a good indication whether or not the fight was in New York. Looks like it’s time to do some more research!
Man oh man....this is gold. Thanks for posting.

@@plane7 Interesting. The information is conflicting. Mike Gibbons was a great boxer, I love to see his work in the ring.
Who are the guys in the 2nd fight?

@@carspiv I was thinking it could might be Mike O'Dowd v. Al McCoy. You don't think so?
Jose Santiago Al McCoy was a southpaw, so I’d bet large amounts of your money ;) that it’s not. Also, they look like at least light-heavyweights.
@@carspiv thanks for your insight
