British bands from the 60s-70s are very diverse in their sound. Queen went from Rock to combining it with a touch of classical music and opera, then they go to rock/disco etc. Beatles went from 50s style rock n roll to ballads to a whole different music that started the whole modern avant garde era with their psychedelic music. i think they're able to do so because of their talent surely and more freedom from their music labels. I think musician nowadays especially those in the pop industry are put in a box and told to make only this or that kind of music

Their song composition is more like theatre. It moves around a stage - left to right, up and down and very visually dramatic. In some ways Queen has one song. Trying to figure out if Brad is into a song can sometimes be tough to tell, but watching Lex there is no hiding anything. Between the wide eyes, head tilt to the side, and an occasional finger wag, her 1st listen to a song is pure entertainment.
Queen is a genre in themselves. That's what it is all about- just as you mentioned. They not only defy categories but also do all various styles effortlessly and convincingly.
I luv this track, killer vocals, killer guitar, killer arrangement. And that tone on Brian May's self made guitar is grungy, tubular and candy-sweet. Long live Queen music!!
Killer Queen was the band’s first big hit. They were all young and were still developing their style. This was known as a combination of “Progressive (prog) rock and Glamorous (glam) rock. Freddie’s hair was long, but it was on the frizzy side. He wore that fox coat all the time and was inseparable from his hairbrush. They were in a terrible management contract and were living on very little money. In later years he either got his hair straightened or used a curling iron to keep it smooth. The song is about a high class call girl.
Great reaction guys! This song specifically is a Glam or art rock song, it was very popular in the first half of the 70's, in Britain. Men wore make-up and women's clothing. Queen were not really a Glam rock band at the time, they were a progressive, hard rock and metal band at the time. Later on they added more different styles. This was Queen's first big hit in America. Older Rock n Roll had loads of piano. You guys should check out their song Liar, it is one of their progressive rock songs from that era.
@@RoverWaters Classic rock is not a genre of music, it is an American radio station format. The term only came into existence around 1981. In 1974 Killer Queen was a Glam rock song. In the early 70’s you had Psychedelic rock, Folk, Glam Rock, Progressive Rock and Hard Rock. Hard Rock developed as a term to create a divide from Psychedelic Rock, because it was heavier and harder. Queen are the most versatile band of all time. They could do it all, hard rock, soft rock, ballads, everything. Queen are the first band I started listening to & when you have 4 members of a band that have different elements & bring it all together into one then that's when you have a very special band. That video was from 1974 but then you listen to them from 1984 it's like listening to another band. Queen evolved with each album over tiime but one thing that never changed is that they made great music.
I love this... Queen is in a category/genre all their own. To me it's still rock and roll but the versatility as a band and Freddy Mercury as a singer. The man was put on earth to sing and entertain. LOL, you haven't even got to their 80's stuff. I look forward to when you get to "A Kind of Magic", "One Vision" or "The Show Must Go On". I almost forgot about "Another One Bites the Dust", "I Want It All" and "Flash" soundtrack... Sh$%, just listen to it all.

This music was a big part of me becoming who I am, so it’s very special to watch other people hear it and appreciate it for the first time. Thanks, and keep reacting!
I love this song..I love Freddie's look in this video also. One of the things I loved Freddie Mercury for is that he was unapologetically true to himself, charming, down to earth, and one of the best singer/songwriters of his time ❤ I was in adolescence and early teens when Queen was pumping out hit after hit-- Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions, Killer Queen...these songs are intertwined with my childhood and teen years and always evoke such strong feelings of nostalgia.
Thanks for your Queen Reactions! Freddie is said to be the best ever rock vocalist. He could sing anything and their catalogue includes some quite heavy songs, prog rock, some funky songs, ballads, and probably many other things. Try some early Queen live in concert - In the Lap of the Gods 1975 Hammersmith. For a heavier sound, try Liar from 1974 at the Rainbow. Both of this are two favorites of many favorites among Queen fans. Thanks.
After I heard Killer Queen, that was it. I couldn't care less about anyone else. I was hooked on Queen. My husband, kids, got mad at me because that's all I listened to. My older daughter quipped, "my concert is tonight, you'll be there right?" I remember looking at her, "Of course." Then she said, "Mom, we aren't singing Queen, ya know." I just nodded and chuckled at her
Totally agree. Death On Two Legs is one of my all time favourite Queen songs. Love Of My Life leading into the Prophet Song would be an epic reaction too.
We cannot set boundaries for the music Queen produced. They have to offer something to every genre. That is why people of many genres like their stuff be it blues, types of rock, pop, disco... many more!
This is one of my favorite songs and an earlier Queen song, possibly their second hit, certainly that was the case in the US. Long hair was the way of the world of rock back then as was the strange costuming. Queen was a rock band but they certainly had their own brand of rock. All four of them wrote number 1 songs and each of them liked different types of music so you will hear a bit of everything from Queen. If you have not yet listened to it, my very favorite live performance by Queen EVER is White Queen live at Odeon, Hammersmith 1975. The vocals will give you goosebumps and the instrumental portion of the song is simply put, outstandingly amazing, total perfection. You will not be disappointed. Freddie said that Killer Queen was showing how even rich and high society people could be prostitutes.
Lex got it spot on. Big Queen fan here for long time and one of the main reasons im fan of them is exactly what she is telling about the band. Hard to put the finger on, but their music is so complex and "simple" and the same time....Like a well composed dish all the ingredients are in harmony and you just feel "Yes, this is delicious. I want to try more from this chef ".

They have some of their heaviest music on here ("Stone Cold Crazy") and some of their most artful ("Lilly of the Valley")! They were incredible during this time, especially!
Melodic! When you're ready for more from Queen, check out their bangers like "Sheer Heart Attack", "Keep Yourself Alive", "Stone Cold Crazy", and "Tie Your Mother Down" or their ballads like "Spread Your Wings" or "All Dead, All Dead" among others.
It's songs like this that allowed us put them into the Progressive Rock genre. And we never wanted to let go. I loved how the early albums trumpeted (in print) "No Synthesizers! Again!" They had no need of any electronic crutch.
It is so fun to watch you two experience what I am so used to hearing. it's almost like I'm watching and hearing it again for the first time. Lex your ability to describe what you hear in textures and colors is amazing. I watch a few movie reactors, I know what scenes are coming up I pretty much know how the reactor will act in general. With you two I know the music but never know how you will react to it or describe it😍
Lex - you mentioned Freddie's soft push of sound into the microphone compared to belting out lyrics. So glad you brought that up. There is a video that when I watched it - it turned on my Queen obsession... You Take My Breath Away from Hyde Park in 1976. First it is JUST Freddie at the piano and they're playing to about 150,000 people FREE concert. Police were so worried (didn't expect that many they forced the band to leave unannounced just before the encore for crowd control). Heads up it's a slow song (not rock) and Freddie is wearing eye shadow - it was ok in that era. Another this is this song showcases Freddie's vibrato. That is where he vibrates his vocal chords and the sound comes out like when you throw a rock over water to make it bounce....it's skipping stones. Freddie had an unusually fast vibrato. For me what is amazing (beyond the fact this is nearly 50 years ago and Thank God we have it) but that alone on a stage to 150,000 people he practically whispers into the mic (or huffs at it like cleaning eye glasses) and the power is still strong enough to be heard and while Queen always had the best electronics it was still only 1976 electronics. ruclips.net/video/UBBne8R66xo/видео.html
Another song (from this album) where Freddie goes very high then low is Brighton Rock. It also features Brian’s signature guitar solo. His guitar is unique. He built it with his dad from household parts and he added a 3rd pickup so it makes unique sounds.
You have to remember when listening to older "rock" music, 80's to the 60's, this was the beginning of the Rock music. There were no strict guidelines, definitions, or genres at the time. All of these bands were explorers, experimenting and defining what later generations would declare as Rock music. They had ultimate freedom to sound how they wanted, which is why no two early rock bands sound alike.
You guys are great. Queen refuses to be put in a box if you're going to do more queen try White queen live at the odeon hammersmith 75 or In the lap of the Gods live at the rainbow 74

This song is Queens first break out hit in the US. 1974. They were very "glam rock" in the 70's. Freddie's style changed every year. They had a hit with what is considered the first thrash metal song! Watch the live version of "Stone Cold Crazy" live at the Rainbow. It will blow you away!
Queen at this time were in transition from their prog rock phase to being more maintstream. Previous album was full of fairies, ogres and seven seas and this was their first mainstream single, but of course complex and quirky.
It'd be cool to see your take on "Innuendo" one of the more complex songs - like Bohemian Rhapsody of Queens later years in my opinion . and 'I Want to Break Free" just for fun ! Complete different ends of the Queen spectrum.
By the way Brian May built that guitar with his dad from wood around the house...he calls it the Red Special which he still uses to this day and another by the way...Brian has a PHD in astro physics
It's the 70's so yes, it's his hair and the wardrobe is wild and great. Never try to pin a label on Queen. They are MUCH MORE than a rock band. This song introduced them to a much wider audience, it's very important in the Queen canon. It's about a very high class call girl.

This is my favorite Queen song ever and I love Queen.😀👍❤️✌️🌼
This was the song, which came out when I was in high school in the early '70s, that made me a Queen fan for life!
Now you need to do Stone Cold Crazy🤙🏼
Think this was their first big radio hit.
Melodic! When you're ready for more from Queen, check out their bangers like "Sheer Heart Attack", "Keep Yourself Alive", "Stone Cold Crazy", and "Tie Your Mother Down" or their ballads like "Spread Your Wings" or "All Dead, All Dead" among others.
this is rock, and good one. this sound was so characteristic for those years
"A genre in and of themselves" The last time I heard someone say that, it was Tom Hamilton, the bass player of Aerosmith. He was describing KISS.

Late to the party but, … giggle giggle, the naïveté of their speculation about the character in the song. So sweet!
LOVE me some Brian May! He's definitely one of those guitarists that has his own unique sound, on full display in this song!
This song is special to me. I remember seeing Queen singing KILLER QUEEN in TOP OF THE POPS back in 1974 when it was released.
Brian can play so clean. It sounds simple but hard to make it sound that good. Without distortion , can't have mistakes.
I saw Queen at Wembley maybe 45 years ago. My ears were ringing for days afterwards!
Another song (from this album) where Freddie goes very high then low is Brighton Rock. It also features Brian’s signature guitar solo. His guitar is unique. He built it with his dad from household parts and he added a 3rd pickup so it makes unique sounds.
YESSSS - In my top three 👍
Love your reactions, keep it up! Try " Save me" live. Queen is different every time
QUEEN, "KILLER QUEEN". THIS THE FIRST SONG I REMEMBER HEARING BY THEM... MORE JUST KEEP PLAYING MORE OF THEIR CATALOGUE...
The first song I remember hearing by them was Brighton Rock. I still love it. Gonna go listen to it now.
Just came back from listening. Damn, I love that song!
It's called glam rock
Yes, that's his hair. He loved entertaining the audience with his unusual outfits.
You guys are great. Queen refuses to be put in a box if you're going to do more queen try White queen live at the odeon hammersmith 75 or In the lap of the Gods live at the rainbow 74
Actually they were pretty well set in the ROCK box.
Live Aid is a worth watching Queen Live concert!!!
You may already know this, but the guitarist (Brian May) has a PHD in astrophysics.
I think most of the band are very smart with college degrees
He was the chancellor at a British university, has won several awards for his work in astrophysics, geography and other sciences, has participated (and continue to participate) with space missions, besides also being a singer, songwriter, producer and all that. Renaissance man is what you call guys like him.
I'm really enjoying your Queen Reactions!!thank you for sharing your interpretations!! ~jenn ♡
This is Freddie's voice at its finest in the 70s. He had a few problems later but still had one of the best voices around at the time.
Yes, that's Freddie's real hair. He had long hair in the 70's
This song is Queens first break out hit in the US. 1974. They were very "glam rock" in the 70's. Freddie's style changed every year. They had a hit with what is considered the first thrash metal song! Watch the live version of "Stone Cold Crazy" live at the Rainbow. It will blow you away!
Queen is there own genre of rock and every other type of music melted into one. Do Who wants to live forever next. Guaranteed to blow your mind 😆
Queen at this time were in transition from their prog rock phase to being more maintstream. Previous album was full of fairies, ogres and seven seas and this was their first mainstream single, but of course complex and quirky.
Okay now bring that Queen - live aid reaction !! Best live performance ever
Specifically the body was the wood on the side of the fireplace. He also invented (with his dad) some technical things that are now industry standard.
Lex, my dear, you are everything that is right with this world.
This is old 70s glam rock and power pop mixed in with some prog rock . That was Queens style. 🎸 A lil different from Opeth 😆 Opeth is prog metal.
If you wanna see how different Queen can be, just for fun, check out Seaside Rendezvous. But I'm still hoping to see you react to The Show Must Go On.
Don't forget "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" for that oldies Rock 'N Roll sound.
Thanks, guys - this was the first Queen song I ever heard.. so unique - I never went back! lol
I LOVE watching you react to Queen. Each and every song is worth listening to. You have to check innuendo - a late Queen song.
It's the 70's so yes, it's his hair and the wardrobe is wild and great. Never try to pin a label on Queen. They are MUCH MORE than a rock band. This song introduced them to a much wider audience, it's very important in the Queen canon. It's about a very high class call girl.
Another excellent day of reactions. You guys were busy.
Hey guys, loving the queen reactions, here's a few more for Yas,one vision,I want to break free,I want it all, bicycle race, radio Gaga, your my best friend & crazy little thing called love, all are awesome 🤘🤘
Just asking, have you reacted to any live queen?? It's even better 🤘🎶🔥🤘🎶🔥
Lotsa 💖💖 from 🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿
This song (i think) showcases Freddie`s opera roots...back when he did that in london,
Classical music, not opera.
