Nova Carthago Short-1

Nova Cartago is a carnival group that was created in 2010 in Cartagena, Murcia region, Spain. It was born from the illusion, creativity and the desire to create a different carnival group that was surpassing year after year. We are currently a group of 25 people motivated by the carnival who go out to fill the streets with color, glitter and lots of fun. Our enthusiasm to surpass ourselves every year is rewarded with a great recognition at regional level.
The fantasy presented in 2024 and entitled "Valkyries in the Paradise of Ice and Fire" was awarded with a third prize in the regional competition. It is inspired by the creation of the universe according to Norse mythology. According to this mythology, ice and fire came together to create divine beings, the Valkyries. They were in charge of guiding the warriors to Valhalla, warrior maidens who rode through the skies collecting the bravest warriors fallen in battle, to accompany them to paradise after death, the Valhalla.
Earlier, in the the first years of the group´s creation, the fantasies were designed from the simplicity of structures, using acetates, feather boas, pheasants and Swarovski stones. As the years went by, the first awards came, valuing the originality of our designs. We were discovering new materials and assembly techniques, starting to use more specialized materials such as fiberglass, stainless steel, moldable tubes, etc. to finally achie lighter and stunning structures.
After 15 years of trajectory, many have been the recognitions received rewarding the different fantasies, obtaining in the last year the third prize in carnival of Cartagena. Our hallmark is the variety of costumes and designs that parade every year through the streets of Cartagena looking for innovation and fantasies that are remembered every year, our costumes are highlighted by the craftsmanship and thoroughness in capturing the creativity in the body of our dancers. Our costumes are made and designed from Swarovski stones of different colors, sizes and shapes, rhinestones, sequins, pallets, ribbons with precious stones, shiny applications, crystal chains, glitter, acetate, lace, fancy fabrics. In addition, these materials have allowed us to innovate in the trellises and headdresses, carrying imported feathers of pheasant, ostrich, rooster, duck, turkey, peacock, arrowheads, stuffed animals and goose boas.
