Scary stuff, and I don't really need studies to know these effects. I didn't get a legit smartphone until late 2017, and thinking about it, that time really marked a dropoff for my general well being.
- poor concentration
- lower motivation
- feeling of being disconnected from surroundings
- feeling of days flying by without really "taking them in"
- emotionally more numb
Definitely gotta make some big changes, and I'm definitely not alone.
Yeah brother. We gonna make things right. Lets go
I've deleted all of my social media (except YT) and realized how much time I have to do other things and prioritize what really matters
did the same. now i’m on youtube 8 hours a day 😅
@@sovka8394you could keep a time limit on youtube itself or any 3rd party app
Never had any social medias, never plan on it, aside from RUclips all I have is video media for when I’m bored
Never really used social medias except RUclips but now I do (business related reasons)
But then youtube introduced youtube shorts :')
I’m not sure I’d call this the addiction that nobody is talking about. I’m pretty sure everyone talks about technology addiction

"It's becoming increasingly popular to step away from tech and do a digital detox."
Yea saying no one talks about it was such click bait. Especially when less than ten seconds in he says the whole point of this video is becoming popular.
Nobody talking about this if youve been living under a rock the last decade 😂 just another dirty click bait regurgitated detox video... Nothing too see here
@@MrEscape314 the question is now, is clickbait that influences you positively really bad?
I think by that he means not in as bad a way… we talk about it, but it is socially acceptable and even encouraged, whih is different from (most) other addictions.
@@microwaveman7414 i mean fundamentally no but lets be real most of us already knew this and didn't actually get anything except for more dopamine from this video
If you have an addiction, the easiest way to get over it is to deprive your brain from an opportunity itself, because its the resistance to an opportunity that makes it so much harder to quit an addiction. For eg: If you are in your study room just leave your smartphone outside so that your brain wouldn't have to work hard to resist the urge to pick it up and eventually forget about it by focusing on the task at hand.
What I'm trying to say is that rob yourself off that stimuli instead of putting it right in front and having hard time to fight the urges
The thing is , I need a device to research and watch videos doing creative things for my detox aaand a few hours later I'm back to scrolling.
Edit: I found a solution, it's just keeping yourself busy with going outside lol simple as that. Don't have time to use your phone and then you stop using it much.
Update 2024: yep it works alright
You can set a daily time limit per app on your device's digital wellbeing settings
Paperrrrrrrr
@@johnstyl it don't help much when you have multiple devices
And I'm not making excuses here
@@toliver.99 tf is paper gonna go , I ain't a toddler to write or draw stuff. I mean not degrading artists or anyone here but nah

I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind. May clarity replace confusion. May peace and calmness fill your life. 🙏🏼
thank you. I needed to hear this. I hope it comes true. May the same happen to you!
Thank you 🤍
Getting back into the gym and reading books was the best decision I made in my late 30s.
For a week, i've been using phone at whole night and I can't control myself, Thanks for the video
I still don’t understand how people are always on so many social media (especially tiktok)
I’m only on one app, YT
I often get clowned because I don’t have Snapchat or TikTok or IG
That’s awful. That’s like getting dogged on for not having an specific phone.
Im a Student and have a whole lot of work and studying to do , but I always find myself going back to RUclips , Instagram ,etc.
I got rid of my Insta but I need youtube for studying. But while doing so I always get distracted and end up not studying and just whiling away my time feeling lazy. your videos help a lot Improvement pill and I too will undergo a digital detox and try to reduce the amount of time I spend on YT. Thank you for your advice.
In RUclips settings, you can set a notification for any set length of time you spend on YT that reminds you to take a break. It is very helpful in managing time spent on RUclips as it interrupts the video you are currently watching.
This is actually a common addiction but its usually ignored
The timing of this video is just great
I need device for studying but as always i start watching memes, movies, etc.
Now i just hate studying.
Digital detoxing is like hitting the refresh button for your soul. 🌟 Breaking free from the addiction of social media allows us to reconnect with the real world, savor life's moments, and regain control over our time and focus. Hoping, This improvement pill will change many minds!
actually I have that issue with addiction and having a hard time focusing on important stuff instead of wasting all my days on my device but I have to thank for giving me the advice hopefully I can improve myself and face the real world instead of you know wasting my time on social media.
Try reading a book called "Atomic habits" that will help you loads
@@Khushi_R9 alright thanks for the advice
Me wondering whether to continue to watch this video or give my brain a break😂😂
I hadn't thought about the brain constantly processing information as a stressor. I thought more about the emotions created by viewing content as a stressor. Thanks for sharing! 😊
This video is too much relatable to me and my current situation...actually I deactivated my Facebook and Instagram accounts end of this march this year and log out from other social media apps I usually using in my phone, .. and I disable my YT too..but I enabled my YT this June again...to be honest now I spend 5 - 8 hours in YT somedays..I don't know what to do now..I'm really demotivated to my studies now
But this video made my day
Thank you Improvement pill 🥺💗
Just keep yourself busy and don't use your phone just after waking up first do your important work/study. If you do that your entire day will get wasted. Keep phone where you can't see it.
@@imayushfrI'll do this.. thank you 🥺❤
you gotta block youtube, its that simple
Thank you I really needed this🙏
Much needed 🙏
Thank you for this video 😊
Thanks for this video 😊
I feel like I never have enough time for work, friends or other things because I am doom scrolling when I wake up, at work and after work.
I feel like this video was what exactly I needed in the moment
Thank you♡:)
This vid is quite synonymous with what I've been doing this week 👍💯
me and my sister grew up not having devices, since we were also poor and too young. we grew up with books, or kindles…no social medias or digital medias, the only “social” we had, was like goosebumps on the tv. i got a phone when i was 12, in 6th grade. and honestly now i look back and see my attitude between me and my younger sister are different…my younger sister was brought right out, to devices. she had a phone at 8, and was able to have some socials at 12. and there’s definitely a difference…
Andrew Kirby has like a multipart series on digital detoxing and dopamine detoxing. Worth looking at.
I really thought about this. I’ve actually took a small social media break. Some reason it just seems so hard to break from social media because I start thinking about videos that I want watch while I’m taking a break. I do believe I need a long social media break.
Nice!! Pill is back
That personal hygiene transition to comercial had me double take, haha. “You can work on your personal hygiene” I was like “what”?! Haha. It worked and was ok, it just threw me for a loop for a second. Then I thought we’ll I can work a bit more one my hygiene. Time to mow that lawn peeps!
I had a smartphone since 2016 when I started high school. However unlike today, my teachers would call people out for using their phones in class, and the general environment in my classes were “pay attention or pretend to”. Since starting university, no body cared when or how much u used your phone anymore. U starting using it more and more overtime, maybe to compensate for difficulties u come across or whatever. Soon the cycle becomes perpetual, worsening ur work ethic, increasing ur life problems, intensifying dependency, etc. Becoming aware of this unspoken addiction is already a huge step in reclaiming ur true self.
I love how this video is about digital detox and then at the end he says "stay tuned"..
I only give 1.5 hours to youtube a day and for insta and tiktok 30m combined as i have to upload videos to tiktok download from instagram
But youtube i watch to take relax
the best way to digital detox is to made our source of entertainment (specifically social media) become so boring and thats how i successfully remove my gadgets addiction i felt like i have nothing to do when i open those apps and instead i turn off my technology and think about what i want to do after graduate :)
Hi Pill, I've tried digital detox before but always struggled to keep it going. Are you planning a video about how to effectively do a digital detox (or have you maybe made one before)?
you don't need a detox. You need to stop checking video. Not complicated. Just stop. You will feel inconfortable for 48 hrs, and replace by others things: physical book or e-reader ( not on ipad) movies, ( a movies app only) music ( how long you didn't really listen deeply an ALBUM, not a playlist, an album?), exercise, yoga, learn a language. Only thing autorized: podcast. No news. At all.
I really missed your voice dude ❤
Thanks iam going on my digital detox🔥
One example to use for how effective this can be is Jorge Masvidal. He went on some reality show where he was forced to be on an island without phones, technology, social media, etc. and when he came back he became a superstar with back to back to back victories. He said he was forced to look at himself and his career and went from playing it safe to always looking for the finish.
Okay, no social media…. Only video’s from improvement pill
I just found the someone who makes me feel less lonely but the problem is i cant get closer to her and have to be content as having her as an acquintance instead of a close friend 😢 please help me im stuck
is 1 day of detox enough ?
i'm an up-and-coming neuroscientist with a plan to focus on social media for my honours and phd. wondering if you had references to the studies you mentioned :)
Jokes on you….I’m addicted to the daydreaming and solitude
Me on my way to burn the phone🗿
oh yeah that's cool
i really want to have social media detox but I'm a social media manager HAHAHA
South Park kind of talked about it with 'Freemium' episode 😅
I'm gonna try this (only exception is for school)
But does listening to songs non-stop or too much can be harming too?
Which studies? References please?
Can we watch tv simple cable(no RUclips,no streaming service) during detox
How long should a digital detox be?
How do I digital detox when I work IT, and need to be on my PC? Luckily I can't have my phone during work hours, but usually browse youtube to get through the slow periods of the day.
The only social media app is discord and youtube but i don’t know if that are apps that are social media
Wow
Do you need to stop gaming too to have the benefit or just cancel the cellphone is suffisant?
It's always better to stop gaming, because it is a waste of time.
I relized social media is end your life. when they provide you facilities. till the time you will doing to stop nonsense. things like wasting you time to use mobile. many more time is bigger problem when you start over, 1:48 😅
Hi
Can you still do digital detox and listen to muisc?
if i dont distract my mind, i have bad thoughts.
❤
My digital detox is school 😢😢😢
I missed this voice
This comment is not specific to this particular video but I love your consistency in posting quality content. Quantity is easy but quality is not. You inspire me.
A LOT of people talk about this addiction
What if the reason a lot of older people, mainly women who are mohers or grandmothers, find even the small things nice since they dont reall do anything all day?
I am going to No screen for few days. Only accept incoming Calls
👍👍👍
Anybody else stuck watching videos x2 speed because of such bad concentration?
You kept saying "a research say's..." but what's the name of those research? you never really gave information about where to read them and just vaguely say they've done a research about it....
Why not just looking for it on your phone or computer
SPORTS BETTING 😂 is the addition almost no one talk about
Second like and first comment
everyone talks about this.
I only clicked on this video to write this comment. Do yourselves a favor and completeley remove all social media including RUclips for at least 30 days. Or, if you want to go extreme like me, no TV, no music, no technology at all, except when working (only work, notiing else). In those 30 days spend your time outside and get as much sunlight as possible, fill in the time to reconnect with yourself and others. You'll be amazed!
Note: when you go back to technology, you'll notice how insignificant everything on social media actually is and it will be much easier for you to stay away from it.
bro everyone talks about this addiction what u mean.
I feel like people talk about it not in serious way.
you know the addiction nobody talks about?
addiction to socializing
I literally lost my best friend to his endless YT scrolling phone. He would sit on the couch for 8-12 hra just endless scrolling. I literally watched him vegetate and become more vegetable like. I wasnt able to pull him out of it.
Is it just me or the title and the thumbnail are weirdly similiar to psych2go's video?
but I'm a game developer.
Dude, literally everyone talks about that
Yt shorts are also like ticktock addiction
Pretty sure people have been talking about this for close to two decades.
ok bye youtube
💉 and pump
Heyy!!
I am struggling to maintain focus while listening to you in this video!
You are speaking too fast. Your tempo is fine. But you are not talking breaks between sentences. Whenever you end speaking the sentence and there’s a full stop expected, my brain also expects a gap. But you start speaking again almost immediately.
This makes it “too much information” to process and the brain just stops processing it.
I think it’s your editor’s fault. It seems while editing they’re jump cutting the audio to save a few seconds but that is creating a problem.
The time gap between to sentences is next to negligible.
I suggest to increase the gap a bit so that we, the listeners, can absorb the information as well and not just hear the noise.
Thanks for the videos though. Been a big fan from the beginning itself.❤
The same things happens to me but I think it's because I'm not a native English speaker.

First
I'll never understand why people, especially adults leave this comment on videos
@@nKarjebecause they’re first never that serious
Digital detoxing does work in today's world
Not true
Your thumbnails are not giving the feel to click and videos have become more brighter in color, sound quality is too much enhanced, clearer making everything boring...
I can't lie this just a boomer video to me
