Great video. Until now everything just seemed tourist central but this bike trip through the hills, rice fields and villages is the real deal! It makes such a difference when you only encounter locals because then it feels like you are truly travelling and exploring instead of just buying a ticket for an attraction!
Flores, Flores, Flores... if you come back to Indonesia...you have to go to Florès...one of the most beautiful island I ever seen... just amongst so many things to watch over there...check the Kelimutu and the Komodo's...
Hi Gabriel, the mountains are amazing. It reminds me of the Caribbean. The biggest takeaway is it's safer than the Caribbean. People seem much more friendly, but the lifestyle is remarkably similar when you see livestock and a lot of vegetation and crops. I'm surprised you haven't investigated the rainforest, there are several rainforests and several rainforest hotels, something else to experience.
Those temple buildings can be part of extended intergenerational clans with dedicated shrines to ancestors whose remains reside therein, I was told once invited in private property when bicycling about, though had to don the sarong prior to main temples.
Is Bali good for cycling? I kept thinking how awesome it was if I could do such a tour on a bicycle. An issue I see is the hot, humid weather, though. Don't wanna be drenched from sweating the whole time!

Hi Gabriel, it looks like you have to visit the island of Sumatra or Kalimantan first because of the transitional rainy season in several places in Indonesia.
IF YOUR GOING TO cairns a good day trip is to take the ferry from cairns to Fitzroy island, its worth visiting, ALso Australias second largest city Melbourne is well worth visiting, also Tasmania
@@EvaOwen yes Melbourne will be totally different from Cairns, go from cairns in the tropics to Melbourne in a cool climate, make a good contrast, also alot of tourists to Australia skip Tasmania but it has the best natural scenery in Australia also amazing wildlife like the Tasmania devil
1) Can't wait for Part 2. 2) Seems to me like everything you have posted, in the last few days has been WELL BEYOND the tourist zone! Those walls and carvings were amaaaaazing! 🎄 3) Happy Holidays, or whatever the Morris's celebrate, to you, Gabriel. 🎄 4) Snakes are spookier to me than spiders, unless of course we're talking tarantulas or a similarly big, hairy arachnid. 5) Man, those omelets are things of beauty, aren't they? Any foods made well, taste better than those that don't. 6) About motorbike rentals: You have your international driving license yes? Can you get one once in Bali or do you have to come already with one.
If you go back to Indonesia, please consider going to Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Mount Bromo in East Java or Raja Ampat in West Papua. Stunning views. Or go to Jogjakarta (kinda like Bali but with Javanese culture), very touristy but you can always do an adventure like in this video.
Last time in Bali I found a little puppy like this one down on the beach. I took it to a property nearby and the people looked after the puppy and it is now an adult dog. It wouldn’t have had a chance on the beach!
Although I am more Europe and North Africa-oriented, I see this Bali Island like very interesting, Asian ancient. Pity that it is so small, as these Hinduism sculptures (different than those in India) are beautiful. They can be compared in some way with the Buddhist Temple Borobudur in Java but mainly still in use. Cairns seems like a very good starting point in Australia as it is around the Great Barrier Reef and lies on the East Coast where lie almost all major sights in Australia (although quokkas as animals are found on the west - Rotney and Bald Islands off Perth and Albany, and Uluru is in the center of the main island, in the desert). Have a nice time in the land of Santa Claus surfers, desert and nice ocean towns. If you will need some cooling after Bali and Australia, there are nice mountains on the South Island of New Zealand where hiking is possible.
I’m thinking on Christmas Day in Australia 🇦🇺, probably nearly everything is closed. A day after Christmas 🎄 is Boxing Day in Australia, where I’m also guessing many things are closed, just like in the U.K. 🇬🇧
Probably right. I'll land Monday morning on Boxing Day and probably sleep for the day after the overnight flight. Then things should be back to normal on Tuesday I guess. It will be a bit strange being somewhere that's so hot on Christmas. Not the first time though, been in Thailand, India, etc. during the holidays.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos I was once in Florida during Christmas Day and it was very warm, like a typical English summer, and that was weird for me, because in the U.K., I always associate Christmas with the cold weather.
Boxing Day is a big shopping day in Australia there are a lot of shopping centres open but depends if you are in a city/suburbs maybe not so in regional areas
Once you are in Cairns you are about as far away from the rest of Australia as you can get. Interior flights to other cities and hotels and states will cost an absolute fortune. Stay in Indonesia until after the New Year is my advice.
Cairns: don't miss the Daintree oldest world rainforest " cool crocs farm to visit but important to check the tides, Kuranda train ride, Barrier reef " tourist " Palm cove and Port Douglas is very nice, Careful Xmas day everything is close in Australia 👍
Excellent day exploring where the wind takes you. I live in Brisbane, which is the capital of the state that Cairns is in. While the cities are a long way apart, if you're after any information on what to do while here, I'd be happy to help.
Good luck with Jetstar mate. They have been notoriously unreliable between Aus/Bali in recent times. Changing schedules suddenly, cancelling flights, etc. Hopefully won't effect you and your plans.
Please, show the outback, Gabe, that's the real Australia, not only the cities. There are tours. Best would be if you cross from north to south, Cairns, QLD to Adelaide, SA. But you won't have this much time, I think. Perhaps, you can do a small outback tour showing bit of this rugged area. Loved Coober Pedy a lot, called 'opal capital of the world's, looks like a wild west town and has fully underground houses, so-called dugouts where you can also spend the night. Movies were filmed there because it seems like another planet. Wright Air offers scenic flights in this unique area. Also, The Breakaways are not far away, unique mountain formation in a National Park. It's a pity, that you spend only 3 weeks in Oz. These big tours, north to south/east to west, crossing the outback, are awesome.
Bali is a friendly place huh? You mentioned a Jetstar flight.I would not recommend them, they are the 'budget' division of Qantas. I prefer Virgin airways myself. Loving this one Gabriel. More food shots please, I like to see what's on the menu.maybe try the Beef rendang.
Another option is to extend your visa on arrival (VOA) by another 30 days. You could for example change your flight to a date that is approaching or near the 60 day mark, and go to the immigration office and apply for the extension. They will ask why you are extending (for which you can tell them pretty much any reason), pay another Rp500K, fill out some forms, and wait about a week. They will hold onto your passport, and you'll get a WhatsApp message and/or email to come in for biometrics. In your specific case right now, you would need to keep in mind that immigration offices in Bali will be closed for about a week over the New Years week for their "Galungan" holiday. However, if/when you come back to Indonesia keep this VOA extension idea as an option in the event you want to stay longer. One side note on this process: In paying the Rp500K, the immigration office cannot directly take money. They will send an email with an account number, and you'll have to visit a local bank or Post Office where they can directly handle cash, and pay immigration electronically.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos You're very welcome! We just got back from a 6 week stay in Solo, Indonesia and went through this process. In my case, it was due to the airline (Thai Airways) cancelling our flight and offering me something beyond my 30 day limit. It was a free ticket (from United frequent flyer), so ended up staying another 2 weeks to get the same booking class, otherwise it would have been over $1000 to buy additional mileage for leaving out on the following day. We made the best of it, and enjoyed two more weeks. It then occurred to me that this could be a pretext for immigration on getting an extension should I ever want to stay beyond 30 days in the future. I told immigration that my flights had been changed, and that was it - visa extension granted.
