Penang is pretty much Singapore Lite. Matter of fact, the British thought they hit a jackpot with Penang as a port to control regional sea trade in late 1700s, before Singapore became available as a colony in early 1800s.
I didn't realize you hadn't been to Georgetown before. It is a great city, like a cheaper, less weird and less antiseptic Singapore. Incidentally, it is the only place where, in WW2, the Germans and Japanese served side by side. Once the Malay Peninsula fell to the Japanese, German U-boats operated from there against Allied shipping.
i was several times in penang. i love the energy of all the mixed cultures - from the peace inbetween the different religons the whole wolrd should participate.
Hey Gabe, thanks for another super interesting video. I really enjoyed that walk. You've inspired me to expand my Malaysia exploration beyond Langkawi! As always, thanks for taking us along. Looking forward to Langkawi and Koh Lipe vids.
I would have stayed for hours in this museum staring at all the intricate details! Being European we do no come across museums like this! Sooo interesting to me how different everything is! Loved the Penang vlogs shame you are not staying longer… Sabrina 🇫🇷🇬🇧
Penang island is my fav place. Loved it. Th emansion you are visiting Peranakan has an amzing collection of jewellery and other items and is a must visit
Hi Gabriel… I guess you meant Liverpool Uk right? I live in Liverpool so I know exactly what you mean haha 😆 it’s so nice there is some lively atmosphere where you are this Christmas. Also Happy New Year for 2023 😊
So excited watching this, great content Gabriel. I've decided to do old school 35mm film photography and this looks too perfect for it! I'm gonna haul all my impractical heavy equipment to Penang in Jan just to take expensive photos and maybe vlog about it to 5 enthusiasts in America. Business plan or what?
Hi Gabriel, this is an interesting city there's such a fusion of diverse cultures and a heavy influence of the English empire still naming it Georgetown a name given in many places in the Caribbean like the Cayman Islands, Guyana, and the Bahamas. Where the Roman empire's influence is still felt throughout most of Europe the English Empire had a vastly greater reach extending out from the Americas and Southeast Asia an underrated expansion. The mansion you step in was incredible I notice they had an incredible collection of Porcelain, but I didn't see any Jade which is often seen in Chinese culture placed elsewhere to protect from thieves I'm guessing. Much Jade and Turquoise can be seen in the craftsman of the Southwest U.S. where Navajo tribes use in conjunction with silver pieces all very exquisite.
I enjoyed my time in Malaysia. Safe, good food, good quality of life for the price. Friendly people. They speak better English there than the Philippines
Hi Gabriel, you should go to Sarawak, while in Malaysia, there are more surprises there, people are friendly, local speaks English well. Lots of story, like the White Rajah of Sarawak(James Brooke) and of course there are many Ethnic group and their food & culture is amazing and many many more.
What a shame that you have to leave Malaysia after 5 days. Sabah is a must visit which is less chaotic and more beautiful than west coast of Peninsular. Pray you’ll return to Malaysia after Koh Lipe
The Chew jetty went commercial a couple of years before the pandemic. Many of the homes are now let as tourist shops. The other jetties have remained traditional but how long they remain with limited sewerage and other services is questionable. The new generation like a little more comfort I think. The "boat" you saw was one of the vehicle ferries that ran between Georgetown and Butterworth. Unfortunately other than for motor bikes these stopped running a couple of years ago. They had been losing money for years and now there is also a second bridge. Penang is around 60% ethnic Chinese so beer is everywhere. The reference to Muslim Chinese is unusual but what it is meaning is that the premises are pork free and therefore suitable for Muslims. Good to see a few tourists back as Penang was very heavily hit by the absence of tourists during the pandemic
well penang and singapore seem to have the same culture, one is the modern version and one is the old version and i also hope that penang can become an independent country and have its own government like singapore, in the future💜💜💜
no more similar to the USA then any other western country, maybe the large cities are similar the natural landscape is totally different from the USA, yes but l think if he really wanted to go to AUstralia he would have gone and not made excuses such as the rain , its not raining in most parts of Australia
“Masks optional”. A little bit of light Stockholm syndrome there still looks like. If you go to Thailand I’m surely tuning in. The wife and I may go there as long as there’s no conspiracy theory/ propaganda covaids bs. Love the videos man 🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
@@johnschannel449 I've noticed that, since his 50th birthday last year, Gabe tends to visit new places only briefly, and you only see him exploring in depth the places that he already knows that he likes, like Greece, India, and Thailand. That's fair enough, I suppose, as he's earned the right to do as he likes, but I miss some of the energy and risk that he used to bring to the endeavor.

@18:47 : The Perfect Beer Choice !!!
I find beer all the time in Malaysia. Yup now see you did as well.
Only few islands are tax free
How weird!!! I was born in Liverpool............grew up where you are now!!!!🐵🤣🥰👀🎉
Cool.
Love the Prayer call
You should go to batu ferringhi for the beach

And do not forget to eat live sago worms. It is quite a mouthfull.
If they painted with different colourful look its look more ohsem similiar to kampong morten in malacca.

Langkawi is beautiful I was there in 2019
Hi gabriel u should go to Agong village in seberang prai
❤
We saw Komodo dragon in Batu ferringhi on North shore
Big fan of Nasi Lemak.
You can hop to the Thai islands by boat from Penang
Looks like the food court at Ala Moana Center in Honolulu. 🍍🍌🍔🍟🥓🍕🍺🍩🍪
As usual, music right on.
Excellent. 👍
You can get beer but with high taxes compared to tax free islands. We imposed sin tax on cigarettes and alcohol.

Too bad you are rushing through malaysia. You only touched 1% of malaysia.
The Muslim religion taking over all those countries is so disappointing considering the other islands are so much happier with other religions.
Malaysia is a Muslim-majority country first before non-Muslim immigrants were here.
I don't think Gabe is afraid of the weather in Australia it is the Flora and fauna that will get you.
I think he's not into OZ, probably too similar to the US.
The weather is great in most of Australia this time of year
