    America is so lucky to have Venus and Serena, the only Americans to win a grand slam singles title SINCE ANDY RODDICK IN 2003!! It's a shame they didn't always and still don't receive enough credit from the American public, media, and even tennis community but they (of course Serena more so in the last 7 years) have always proved they don't need corporate or establishment backing to succeed. Kudos to Serena, I hope she ties Steffi THIS YEAR!!

      Johnny Handegg Why is women's tennis a "joke"?

    • @xivicationx
      @xivicationx 9 лет назад

      Johnny Handegg even the second place finalist players receive more than a ½ million, and even at the 1st round they receive 34,500 $, well, if that's a joke than i would like to know what you consider to be serious. Btw : i would rather be watch a women football match with a couple goals scored than a men 0-0 end score match, i even enjoy watching women youth football world cup, and if there were women youth *grand slams* tennis on TV than i would watch some of them as well.

    I was just reading some of the comments on the Yahoo message board. It is a disgrace the things some Americans had to say about another American who went out with the draw stacked against her, with a chest infection, yet she prevailed against another player that had a cakewalk draw to the finals. The same player whom America has tried to adopt ever since she won that fluke title in 04. Yet even though Sharapova lives nd makes most of her money in the USA, she's quick to let the world know that she is Russian. The thing is Serena Williams is the total embodiment of what this experiment called America is all about. A person that came from humble beginnings, Compton California, that through God given talent nd hard work, rose to the top of her chosen profession. What can be more American than that. I thought working hard nd making something out of one's life is the mantra lauded here in this land of the free nd home of the brave. But no, all some ppl can see is her skin color. So they call her all kinds of names nd accuse of cheating, when we all know if there was any shred of wrong doing, it would've been exposed by now. It's clear to me it doesn't matter what we do or how much we represent this country, to a lot of ppl, it just doesn't matter. You know what's funny though, these are the same ppl going crazy on anyone that is not totally behind American Sniper nd calling them unpatriotic, smh, hypocrisy to the highest form. I'm at the point now where I don't think these sentiments will ever change. And this is why I have to believe in a higher power, b/c if there is no God, well, something help us. The ironic thing is, most of the ppl spewing this hate against a fellow American for succeeding, they're the ones that can be found in church every Sunday claiming to be children of God.

      Hear, hear.
      It's extremely pathetic and depressing to read the things people say about Serena on any given video. So sad that such a great athlete and person is incessantly abused and dehumanized.
      But on the flip side she knows she has millions of fans who adore and draw inspiration from her.

    Anyone else notice the facial expressions of Martina and Chrissie knowing that Serena just beat their Grand Slam record. Mary Magdalene
      Please refrain from exposing your own ignorance, i guess you just came across the word illiterate?
      Firstly if Serena was illiterate, she would'nt make speecehes in French and Italian after winning trophies in those countries.
      Secondly how many times has Sharapova been able to do that?
      But don't worry we get it; your forebeares lies about blacks are slowly but surely being debunked. At America's most perulous time they voted for a black man twice, maybe Barack is illiterate to you as well?
      The joke is on you inbred bigots,....................... weep!, because Serena will not stop till at least 24 GS.
      If Narvatilova can play till 38yrs., u bet Serena has 5 more years to go, and she will win 5 more GS in 5 years GOD willing at the very least. When that happens i would hope there is a tall bridge near you where you can jump off.

    I'm surprised that people don't mention how Maria cheats. That loud animal sound is not for her health. She does it to mask the ball strike and bounce, interrupt her opponents concentration, and intimidation. She also uses extra time when she serves and even causes her opponents to wait and to serve when "she" is ready. I used to like her more, but now she comes off as "entitled" to win.

    I get that their innate competitive drive is what got them to be such legends, but Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert's two faced, passive aggressive nature is just so pathetic. They are the same legends who judged Serena for deviating away from tennis and focusing on fashion, and chuckled when she came back in 2007 asking, "I wonder how long we'll see of this Serena!" And I say Navratilova and Evert, but it's not just them. They are the most obvious because of Serena's recent GSs, but it's Shriver, Austin, both McEnroe's and every single one of them. They all looked down on her calling her a waste of talent, laughed when she tried to make a comeback, and bandwagoned to supporting her instead of ridiculing her when they realized she was actually the real deal. But even then, they support her but they secretly want her to lose.

      Remember Pat Cash? in 2007, he wrote.. "For all her talk, Serena Williams will never return to the top again" He called Serena DELUDED for saying she is on her way back to the Top of Women's tennis. Guess what? 2 Weeks later, Serena was lifting the Australian Open trophy and Pat Cash was eating Humble Pie. I love how Serena has SHOVED humble Pie down all their throats, icluding Evert, Matina, and All who doubted her tallent and Richard william's Genius.

      Actually John McEnroe is a big fan of Serena. He even did some commentary on Venus and Serena's documentary. But yeah, they talked so negatively about her and now all of a sudden, they're Team Serena?! Makes me wanna laugh! Pam Shriver and Mary Carillo are the worst among all of them! Guess they're jealous because they NEVER won a Singles GS!

      ***** Yeah I would agree that John McEnroe is more genuine about Serena's performance, because he used to have a reputation himself. But John McEnroe didn't get half as much hate that Serena gets from media, considering his behaviour on court was FAR worse.

      YoursTruly You're absolutely right! John's behavior was MUCH worse than Serena's '09 meltdown yet Serena got the worst fine ever! I think a lot of it has to do with race and the fact she's a woman.

      Let me remind everyone if Serena didn't have a sister name venus playing in the same era do the math on how many slams she really would have no one has beaten her more and the number of slams venus beat her now she is the GOAT

    • @privatoist
      @privatoist 9 лет назад +14

      I honestly believe that no one beats Serena but Serena. the only reason she will lose a match, is because she allows herself to. she is that Great. if she is not playing like she should, she will lose. Now with that being said, and without Venus, how many Grand Slam events has it been since she entered the WTA? that's how many she would have right now if she had put her mind to it and focused on the game of tennis, I really believe that. still the Greatest Tennis Player Of All-Time, she's just 45 Slams short.
      edit: oh, and Serena's health was another factor that we could take away.

    I personally forgive all the racist hate talk. To the racist Christians; when Jesus died he did not ask his father to save him, he asked his father to forgive those that were killing him.

    Hate equates success.
    The reason why shes surpassing you all is because she's the best but the most hated.
    So keep on hating, she's rich AF because of it.
