    No giant tablet bolted to the dash, no exploding shrapnel Takata airbags, and real analog gauges. Nice. Last time I drove one was a 1974 XJ6 in 1979.

    That's a beautiful neighbourhood ... well-manicured gardens, no high walls or electric fences, one can actually walk up to a neighbour's front door and ring the door bell.

    Lovely car. They have twin fuel tanks because the designer wanted to preserve the low sleek line of the trunk and make the trunk spacious. At the same time he had to site a full size spare wheel underneath, and then there wasn't room for a gas tank. So he used the cavities inside the rear wings. Except there wasn't much room there either so he used both sides to give the car adequate range between fill ups.

    I always love these cars I had a 1990 XJ6 Vanden when I was in high school it was super clean and I got a great deal on it I had it maybe two months in an old guy pulled up next to me at a red light and offered to buy it for a couple thousand more than I paid so I saw it because I was always worried of an expensive repair you know the horror stories that you hear, One of my neighbors at the time also had one of the V 12 two doors convertible and he let me take it for a drive by myself when I was probably about 17 and I’ll never forget getting on the highway and stomping on the gas.

    My mother had this exact same car and bought it brand new. I inherited it in 1996 and kept it till 2004. By the time I got it all the maintenance issues came down the pike. I must have spent over 10 grand in upkeep and repairs on this car. It lost compression over time and was very slow and underpowered. While the car got noticed on its looks it couldn't deliver on performance. I gave it away as part of a barter with a guy who landscaped my backyard. The car had 138k miles on it.

    Good Morning. No doubt this exceptional car sold when first advertised. The engine size is 4.2 litre. The series 3's were fuel injected and this really helped reliability and fuel consumption. Here in England the Van den Plas was only available if purchasing the Daimler version. Maybe the Daimler was not available hence the Jaguar VDP. Happy New Year.

    My father had a 1987 Arctic Blue standard XJ6. The car is absolutely gorgeous sir. I Loved that car so much. He sold his 9 years later then bought a 1998 Jaguar XJ8. I had 3 Jaguars. a 2003 S-type R , 2002 X-type and then a 2005 X-type 3.0 liter.

    A few interesting minor tidbits regarding this car. The VDP version had better looking seats but the non VDP version had more comfortable seats. The dash gauges on the VDP version are more recessed than the non VDP version. The dual gas tanks have three solenoids to manage them (and they are handed to complicate matters even more) - (left, middle, right). Troubleshooting them can be a challenge. The lights on the dash were already dim from the factory and Jaguar provided a dimmer switch to make them even more dim.

    Yeah I trust your assertion the engine is known for its reliability (and good it is) when you even admit to not knowing what capacity it is. If you knew how good the engine was you’d know it’s a 4.2.

    This is not the first '87 VDP that you had is it? I saw one like this in front of your office. It had the same color and original Kent wheels and not wires like this one and I don't remember it had tinted glasses either. I admired that car for a few min.

    The new owner will be fine with his Jag. He just needs to remember to have a mechanic with a truck full of parts follow him whenever he takes his British automobile for a spin.

      Well, back in the late '90s I had an XJ6 4.2, same year or a year older, and it was very reliable. Got it very cheap - £700, maybe just over $1,000 now - and the timing chain rattled from the start, but it wasn't alll that intrusive a sound, and it didn't stop the car driving fine. The narrator prattles away but doesn't know the car - you NEVER slam the boot and bonnet lids down the way he did it. That's the way to break the catches! You press them down. Two fuel tanks? Because it's thirsty, lol. Anyhow a lovely car to own, pure therapy to drive. Same applies to the Series 3 XJ12 I later owned. Engine incredibly smooth and quiet, but even thirstier. Parts for those Jags were mostly pretty cheap too back in the day, don't know about now though.

    Man I love jags, unfortunately Ian callum ruined the classic European style of jaguar

    • @stevenvanstadenvanstaden4317
      @stevenvanstadenvanstaden4317 6 лет назад +2

      He certainly did ruin the classic design, in my opinion too, but it's said that that's what today's majority seem to want in a car's looks. That makes no sense to me because whenever I'm out in my old Jags or Daimlers (Vanden Plas in the US) people are invariably awed by their beauty. If one's taste is for a certain style of house, furniture, garden, car or whatever, why change the timeless and enduring lines to suit tastes that prefer something modern?
