I honestly think that Marcy Wu was handled well in Amphibia. She was more prevalent in season 2 than in season 3, but she had her moments in season 3. When she was reintroduced in season 3 after Andrias stabbed her and then saved her, Marcy shows a pretty good dynamic with Olivia and Yunan, while also having to face what she did to Anne and Sasha, which was still fresh in her mind. The reason Marcy didn't really get a chance to deal with it was because she was possessed by the core into becoming Darcy. You could even argue that Marcy solving puzzles and playing games in her mind was part of her escapism mentality. However, when given a chance to go on adventures with versions of Anne and Sasha that would do what she wants, you can tell that what happened during the events of True Colors did have an impact on Marcy. For all Marcy knew, she probably lost Anne and Sasha as friends because of what she did, and she learned from her her mistakes to see through Aldrich's fantasy and accept the reality of what was really happening. I honestly think that Marcy did at least learn to accept change, because we've seen from before Amphibia, Anne and Sasha didn't really care about Marcy's interests. Even Anne and Sasha came to realize that. At the very least, if the series didn't show enough of Marcy's development, Marcy's journal Jo did.
The problem is that her solving puzzles was escapism, it was because the core erased her memories. Her character arc had to be regressed by forces outside her control to justify her scene in all in, which goes to show how desperate the writers were to gove her some kind of arc.
I’ve maintained that the handling of Marcy, *especially* stabbing her, was Season 2 writing a dramatic check that Season 3 wouldn’t or couldn’t cash. Anne’s lack of reaction to it was so bizarre it kinda took me out of the show.
Marcy is definitely my favorite character of Amphibia, I felt bad for her a lot. Seeing her getting possessed really set a panic attack on me, considering not only does she have autism like me, but she was only *13!* If I had a nickel for every time a 13yo got possessed in a kids cartoon and had a cool temporary villain nickname, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice. Ty from Grossology suffered the same fate of being possessed by one of the villains as he was also 13 as well.
I think that sasha definitely should have gotten another episode before 3b, but how would they have done more for Marcy? She was freed from the tank and then possessed by the Core in the same episode, there is literally no way for them to have done more with Marcy before the finale because she was either unconscious or she was Darcy.
I love The Arcanist AU! I'm in active in the Discord server for it, and I'm grateful that you mentioned it. I actually found this video through somebody else sharing it in the server.
I feel like Marcy Wu and Sash Waybright would greatly benefit from Spin Off Midquel Series whether ongoing or mini series. And considering Matt Braly's great relationship with Disney and the Great sales performance of Marcy's Journal, it should at least get brought up in discussion.
Yes, Marcy was greatly underused in S3 and it would be be good to see at least some flashbacks with her during the season. Also, her plot arc seems incomplete to me because she never got a solid confirmation that she might have any true long-term friends outside of the Trio. Both Anne and Sasha find some great friends in Amphibia while Marcy, who needed it most, got nothing.
Yo a witch in wartwood mention! But seriously I wish s3 just had more episodes cuz I really liked most of 3a’s earth stuff but I wish they did more with Anne trying to repress her trauma, Sasha and Grime getting along with wartwood’s residents, and the Core trying to get Marcy to join them
I'm disappointed with how Marcy was treated in Season 3. While I think Season 3 is without a doubt my least favorite season of the show (I have a Love Hate relationship with that season), the way Marcy was handled in that season was easily the thing that bothered me the most. Which is a shame because Marcy's my favorite character of the show and one of the reasons Season 2 is by far my favorite season of the Amphibia. So, for Season 3 to sideline her for villain that also suffers from being underutilized wasn't a worthy trade off when she potential to be better. Season 3 had a lot of flaws that held Amphibia back from being one of my favorite cartoons of all time, and which is shame since I really like Season 1 and love Season 2.
It's a damn shame that Season 3 was forcibly held back by the executives cause they don't want to acknowledge the funny haha Frog show has more going for it after True Colors.
Of course you list A witch in wartwood I'm not even surprised lol. In all seriousness if anyone hasn't read it yet, You have too! It's fucking peak bro
I realized that 3a creates another problem with Marcys arc. Marcy is punished for running away from her problems…but Anne and the plantars all throughout 3a are encouraged to take time oof from the search for a portal to relax…despite amphibia suffering under andrias's rule, which they know about. In other words, anne is encouraged to engage in escapism at the expense, while marcy is punished for it. It gives the impression that Marcy misteak wasnt think amphibia isnt a power fantasy…but that she isnt the main character. Anne is. Anne is allowed to be a hero, marcy needs to know her place.
Yes, Honestly I feel EXACTLY the same way about Sasha and Marcy, Personally Sasha for me Cause i was SO INVESTED in what would happen to her and her character arc in Season 3 (Cause I'm always invested in Mean Girls/Bad girls like Amity, or Pacifica) after True Colors (Don't worry Marcy is my 2nd Favorite :) and personally Season 3 kinda treated both of them dirty, but double for Marcy cause girl really was fridged for almost the whole Season due to becoming Darcy. There's great potential in Sasha and Marcy's character arcs but Disney (or more accuratly Matt Braly and the writers) seem to have neglected in favor of Funny frog adventures in LA. Though I could say most of it was due to the higher ups pressuring them to go for more lighthearted concepts I honestly feel that my hot take is that Matt played Favorites with Anne and the Plantars in my opinion.
Honestly I prefer Season 3A NOT focus on Sasha, Marcy or Amphibia and rather have them focusedd once like Season 3A did. Personally, I'm of the opinion that telling less is more. And when we get back to Amphibia near the end of Season 3A keeps us hype and wonder what happened. And focusing more on Anne's character is the real main focus of Season 3A. To me, Seaosn 3A felt like an important Season for Anne's character. Not only do we get a clever reversal of Season 1 with the Plantars' reacting to Anne's world but we get more focus on Anne and her family which I think is nessessary. Also the Earth character are some of the best characters in thier own right. I refuse to see anyone diss Mr. X or the IT Gals. Also I strongly disagree with how Marcy was handled in Seaosn 3. IMO I think she was handled well. it was never "Shoved in" as you make it out to be.
Its a giant step backwards, and feels like the show is playing it safe by backpedaling after true colors. Plus the plantars had to regress into morons to make it work. Annes developememt took a backseat to shenanigans, and as such she doesn’t really change all that much.
Her being a plot device is debatable, but she’s definitely not a Mary Sue. So much went wrong for her during the show and she was practically ignored by everyone she knew.
@@cartoonloverzxc3237 By that logic, every main character in every show or movie ever would be a plot device. For example, if Eda didn’t exist, neither would The Owl House.
I agreed with u and I don't think it's just the writer fault they had to dum things down in se3 because of true colors was so traumatizing and they couldn't be more serious I hope they od more with her outside of marcy journal
