Just an FYI. There's no ARG or underlying stories behind any of the things I add in my normal videos.
It's just there for fun.
Could you maybe explain of what's the context of the Second Glitch? The Crying Woman one
@@muratsmg62 it's probably just a cinematic take or flair on a creepy space, it was definitely off putting which was complimentary to the vibes there
@@Brightside117 I know that I know that... but what does woman crying have to do with that?
Hmmm, this sounds like its an ARG...
They are really cool, i really like them.
fun fact, if you run the 2006 alpha adding the CSS, DoD:S and L4D1 models and materials folders into the BMS one you can get a lot of missing props and models back, specially on Office Complex
So it's the GMOD meme of "forgot to install Counter Strike Source"?
how did they have L4D1 models if L4D1 was released in 2008?
@@6WeeksTV huh, hold on im talking out of my asshole, indeed its only HL2, CSS and DoD:S
@@6WeeksTV i believe most l4d1 models are taken from css, just a mistake from the op
@@dustojnikhummer RadHaz got Broken into, but all they did was unmount CSS

Black Mesa Zero Six does not sound like a good name but hey we go with that
The dark and gritty Black Mesa beta
dark and griddy
Black mesa in 2006 just looks like half life 2 beta ported into half life 1 or something.
i'm amazed by how similar these look to the final maps
It just goes to show how much time is spent on small changes and polish to take it to the next level.
This was really scary. Like, I didn't expect random scares in video as normal as this one in any way so you got me chills
You should make a horror mod. Those two scares were perfect because they came out of nowhere, but aren't just screamers, they just build tension.
There's also a lot of hidden models and textures, you can see them either on Hammer or Garry's mod, this leak was actually build using HL:S model list as a base, there are the old male and female scientist models with HL2 rebel AI and faces (the ones of the first Trailer), early HECU marines with the HL2 rebel faces, Houndeyes and Bullsquids, theres also pieces of the never released Black Mesa Uplink (including the "blue test room" thats the first battle against the marines in Uplink), if i recall correctly theres even 1 or 2 never used old Xen props
2:26 The textured AMS is actually taken straight from HL2's intro.
I'm... not sure if I should feel scared about these "Glitches"
5:25 This area was used for very old screenshots! It included Retail-looking Houndeye and Cut-Ironsight MP5.
5:52 This "Glitch" kinda activated my Fight or Flight response, The empty skies and big open areas part of this map not only gave me Portal 2 Vibes... but also *Liminal Spaces*
Yeah seriously, i fucking hate obscured faces in the dark
Regarding the 2012 footage you mentioned, it's probably from the original 2012 moddb release which you can still download. Back then they were still developing it as a free sourcemod and i remember this public 2012 build already having pretty much everything but xen, the standalone steam release only came out 3 years later.
4:58 Cave map feels like it would belong in an early BM Blue Shift
Great video
I can't believe it was being made that early. 17 years ago???
It started development in 2004
@@clayh254 damn
Development started in 2004, the original mod version was released in 2012, it was put on Steam in early access in 2015, and the Definitive Edition came out in 2020. All in all the game was in development for 16 years.
This Beta is almost legally old enough allowed to buy alcohol in my country
"About that beer I owed you! Hey Gordon It's me Barney, from Black Mesa!"
This makes you realize how there's much more that goes into humongous mods like Black Mesa or Entropy Zero than just a bunch of maps with basic HL2 AI, they could've released this idk.. in 2007 with basic HL2 AI, more props here and there and retextured models but the mad lads took their time with it and added so much more to the game including custom made AI, and just went all the way overall, no wonder it took 6 more years just for the first release, had they released these maps like this probably no one would've have complained (the maps are quite amazing for 2006-2007) but the mod would not have been 20% as good as the first release let alone 2015 retail.
I guess that's the difference between mods like Black Mesa and Entropy Zero that make even Valve proud and the rest of stuff that comes out constantly after 1 or 2 years or less of development.
Also I agree it's been 20 years Gabe! c'mon!! release the entire 2003 HL2 beta and all its assets, what harm could it do now that 85% is out there anyways? lmao. Get over that damn hack already!
the thing whit Black mesa was that they started because they felt like HL source was just copy paste of the maps over to the source engine whit no edits.
and the 2006 leak is still in the copy paste part just that we did some minor tweeks but its still noware near enouth of a edit i say.
because valve clearly has a 20 year old version of hl2 still lying around even after a new office
@@kellymountain I have 25yr+ old games stored on my hard drives and on disks that I bought in the 90s, are you saying that a multibillion corporation cannot afford to keep a few GBs of data safe or stored somewhere? Also thanks to recent leaks is clear that Valve still keeps beta files around, that's how they've been leaked duh, also the devs of Alyx have stated before that they went back and played some of the beta maps for inspiration (Alyx introduced some cut concepts straight from the beta).
LMAO "20 year old version of hl2 still lying around" wut.. HL2 RETAIL IS ALMOST 20 YEARS OLD ALREADY TOO, like what's even the point you're trying to make here lol. Imagine that a corporation that specializes on storing game files on a massive scale (Steam) somehow cannot keep copies of their own games (at all stages of development) hahahaha, thanks dude you gave me a good laugh. I'm sure Valve cannot afford to store the 4GBs or whatever that a beta build of HL2 could take. That's a good one!
@@AJ-po6up valve keeps stuff from development but not entire development repositories from earlier stages of development, the tf2 postal 3 leak was because they got access to source engine during that time, the old survivor models that valve gave to be ported to l4d2 as an addon were probably salvaged from a broken version of l4d1 that was given to valve when turtle rock studios passed on development to them, if they use some form of source control like git it might be possible to find a version of the code from 2003 but at the end of the day i doubt valve will do anything with the beta because its buggy and no one at valve cares for it anymore
only way the full thing is getting released is if enough employees decide it should be released to the public or the halflife community petitions for it to be released (something that is very unlikely considering savetf2 only got as far as it did because you could just boot up tf2 and get a bot infested match every time, journalists and youtubers outside of the hl community wont care about them wanting a beta build of hl2 to be released)
IIRC I heard a podcast years ago with one of the modteam who said that they had started to plan before the release of HL2
Black Mesa didn’t really leak in 2012. That was its first release. There WAS a leak, but it was not of an earlier build, but of a 3 and a half gameplay video of an earlier build, specifically in the On A Rail chapter. The video, looking at the upload date, appears to be from around 1 month prior to release. The only differences compared to the 2012 release are that the HECU soldiers don’t have radio filters applied to their voices and the track that plays in the launch pad site when fighting the Marines is an earlier, notably different version. Fun fact: this music track was actually used in the mod version of Surface Tension Uncut (prior to being added to the Steam release) in the Manta scene.
The leaked video if you’re interested: ruclips.net/video/jbwAG9NFrtk/видео.html
Thanks for sharing!
I remember there being drama on the leaked video because ValveTime posted it even though the devs asked people not to share it
People really did forget about BM the mod. Did they ever port over Xen to the mod, which they promised to do?
@@Web720 uh, they ported and finished Xen in Black Mesa a while ago.
There was a promise that after they finish Xen in the Steam release, they would also release it into the mod version, ie. for free. FWIW, I don't mind that they decided to not follow up on that promise as Xen turned out to be much larger in scope than anticipated.
spooky ARG moments:

strange voices and a strange face: 6:09
strange face again: 7:56
Goddamn, for a 2006 early map looking like this? It is really well made.
I'll never forget the first trailer I saw of Black Mesa which was released around 2007 and saw it for the first time in the summer of 2008. I was so hyped then... and when I got to actually play the first version of BM in 2012 I was over the roof with happiness
Nostalgia right there for me as well.
@@Web720 For real. I finished Half Life 1 for the first time in the summer of 2008 and I got so immersed in the HL universe ever since.
Now I'm just as excited for the upcoming OpFor and Blue Shift remakes as I was 15 years ago for B.M.
Played the hell out of Black Mesa when it was released as a mod back in 2012 but in comparison to its 2006 version... The latter has the good ol' "dark and griddy" vibe to it.
3:44 It's been years since i last saw anything related to that catatonic theory thing
I want more content like this from early Black Mesa alpha/beta not known to the public. Reminds me bit of hl2 beta.
This is fascinating, lemme add that this was 2006, this was even before the orange box came out, so this was all old source engine stuff.
There's two scientist models inside this 2006 alpha (bob.mdl and frank.mdl), they're quite unfinished
3:10 That Cat.
What cat?
Really goes to show how bad the mod team got after Raminator left. they got all this done in just a year or so, but took an additional 14 years just to polish everything and create xen.
This really isn't much, just a few maps and some assets, it's not even 5% of a game...
Its honestly insane that the mods development started in 2006, good job black mesa.
IIRC 2012 was the games first online, non-Steam, release. And it came without a hint of Xen. Yes we had to wait the better part of a decade to get Xen.
Honestly though? 100% worth it considering what we got.
Seeing them in such a state all the way back in 2006 makes me really wonder why it took so long for the earth chapters to finally be released. Like, did the scripting and everything really take that much longer than the maps themselves?
I think it was more than scripting. Since the black mesa wasn’t team isn’t huge at all back then, if I remember it consisted of a decently small team.. The reason that I think is why it took so long is: voice acting, remaking all of HL1 maps, new textures, polishing the maps, new model, and porting the game from engine to engine took a toll on the time aswell.
the model and texture of the anti-mass spectrometer was made by valve that is used in the opening of hl2 which means hl2 has more work done on the assets of hl1 then hls
great video and all, nice knowing about these maps
but damn i didnt expect those glitches, thanks for the scares😅
3:10 you ignored the starring cats. 😂
You can't gib the enemies with your machine gun crowbar like you do in half life, so imho Black Mesa is literally unplayable
Playing through Black Mesa was very entertaining and as someone whos never played the first Half Life game, but all contet after that, it has a special place in my memory! All of Black Mesa felt like playing through Gordons adventure in IMAX 3D
6:10 I got legitimately scared. I felt like I literally couldn't breathe for something as well
HL1 & HL2 were days under 6 years apart. 6 years ago was 2017.
I remember being hype as fuck to play the 2012 version when my pal got a new computer, the culmination of years of excitement, ~2014 I think it was, so long after watching my older brother playing the original Half Life - it was emotional
You should make a video comparing the original Black Mesa Source demo that came out in the early 2010s with the current finished product
Good idea. I'll work on that in the coming days. Thanks!
"Beta" Mesa was much more dark and gritty than the retail one.
i remember playing the leak but it only ran 2 maps for me, since my pc trying to run the other maps crashed the game
RadHaz really hit the griddy for this one
I think in 2012 somewhere they released like a demo version until the teleporter that takes you to xen, that's where the game previously ended
Less than 6 thousand views and already 1k likes... now this is a truly supportive community!
Imagine if valve spent almost 20 years working on half-life 2
RadHaz, You pronounced it wrong, in the words of G-Man in HDTF "Black Missa"
also I really like these ARG type videos
Aw... sorry... I should probably replay the original (and best in the series) game first before making Half Life videos...
Not a fan of black mesa, but I really respect the work that's gone into it.
3:55 6:18 can't wait for the radiation hazard ARG (That second one was really unnerving)
very spooky

Radiation hazard arg?
@@p_filippouz Just a joke, but maybe
its wild how a good amount of those early alpha textures are still in the retail release to this day. Some of those textures are now almost 20 years old. Cool stuff
finally, we are closer to the dark and griddy black mesa beta
Every video you put out is a 10/10.
thanks for the nightmares rad ❤
😊
6:06 scared the fuck out of me bro I was watching this in the dark😭😭😭
the black mesa beta was absolutely dark and griddy
your intro gives me chills every time, js, it's siiick
Huh, did not realise the mod got leaked...quite dark and gritty if I do say so myself.
the creepy stuff you added especially the ones at at that room gave me creeps a lot its literally 3 am dude
Black mesa facility kinda looked goofy
Banger video as always Rad!
It just goes to show, the last 20% of a project takes 80% of the work.
I'm seriously impressed by how similar that dam section is to the release map. Even with the game having come out in 2015, 9 years is an actually really fascinating kind of longevity.
Excellent video as always dude!
😎👉👉
I remember looking at these in like 2012 and being like, "Man, this looks like sнiт."
But then the mod came out some months later and was freaking awesome, so i felt kinda dumb.
bro Im watching in the middle of the night with the lights off and the bit at 3:40 scared me so much lol
That version is very weird and impressive.
no way its walter
6:08 man... are you crazy?!
im scared

5:52 damn, i was not prepared to be traumatized, this is like, legitematly the first time i got scared from something this badly in a while
What a nice and wholesome look at BM’s 2006 leak, I sure hope there is no cosmic horrors beyond my comprehension that will appear!
3:09 nice silo door textures
Remember when people said harshly they would not finish Xen ever? I found many comments that stated in a mean way that crowbar collective never finish Xen ad if they didn't want Xen to be finished others stated why they could not now they don't say anything about Xen having been released.
I forgot about the cat window texture placeholder.
Black mesa beta wasnt dark and griddy 😢😞
😭
Kind of ironic that a remake of half life was leaked just like half life 2.
Bro its 3am why would you put me through this
heavy half life 2 wibes and nova prospekt wibes
3:09 is that a cat or something in the doors on the left?
...when the hazardous rad ARG coming out?

Rad Haz video about leaked content with creepy atmosphere and jumpscares? Very nostalgic!
I don't know how, bit I didn't know that BM leaked until I saw your video today. Shame on me.
*This is what Black Mesa will look like in 2006*
Half life game isnt complete without a leak
Has there ever been a Half-Life game that didn't leak years early?
I remember there was a french RUclipsr that did a video about the cut content of Black Mesa, don't know if they are real, I'll show you one of them from his video, so there's was supposed to be a type of Alien Grunt that is bigger and shoot snarks rather than bees
They re-released some of these maps to celebrate xen's release. The cave map looks like a test map taht's included in the Xen Museum, so that's my guess.
6:19 why radhaz why
just had to do it to em 🗿
LETS GOOOOO NEW VID!!!!
Dawg dont scare me like that!! im watching this at 1 am common now!
Also Rad when are you going to do a full release of your in-series ARG? im curious as to piecing together a story by seeing you make additions to it but its not all in order if there is a story (all conjecture) haha
We'll just have to wait and see...
@@RadiationHazardYT (Creepy trumpets begin to play) I'm stoked to see what's it's all about, and also Rad a cool video idea Im really thinking can use more love is other Sci-Fi factions like (The empire, Space Marines, UNSC, Turian military or etc) and how they would stack up against a combine invasion in full force, just an idea it would be cool to see by my fav Radiation Hazard!
Great memories. So happy it actually came out. For a few years it looked like it was dead.
man the second thing scared the shit out of me when i noticed the face
5:14 "No b*****s?"
Are the windows on the left at 3:08 eyes? What the heck is that?
the fucking no bitches at the end lmfao
Didn't the development start in 2004? Also wasn't it like leaked/shared WAAAY later? At least, that's what I remember/heard
From what I know:
Development for two mods by two different teams started in 2004 after HLS' release. Both teams wanted to remake Half Life in Source. Both of those team joined together in 2005 to work on what would later be known as Black Mesa: Source/Black Mesa. The leak first happened in 2006 and then again in 2012.
@@RadiationHazardYT The 2012 one wasn't a leak, but the release of it as a mod since I remember it very well. There are lots differences to the 2012/mod version to the retail one, and also lots of people were annoyed that it didn't have the Xen chapters.
@@RadiationHazardYT huh, alright then
3:50 it's 1am.....
It's funny to me when a developer becomes defensive about a leaked project.
Obviously we know if a project is a prototype, alpha, beta what have you, it's not supposed to be finished or even playable.
To us as fans of the project we're just glad to interact with it. Like interacting with the DNF betas. We know it's non-functional. We just love the fact that we can see it.
And everytime a leak happens it only hypes up the game even more, and makes more fans. So we should be happy when leaks happen.
When the black is mesa
THIS IS JUST LIKE THE HALF LIFE 2 BETA!!!!!!!!!
You can explode my balls
Hey RadHaz becouse of your hammer videos, I got into hammer. Thanks!
